About A Small Orange

A Small Orange was founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 2003 with a “small” name but a big ambition - to give websites around the globe a cozy and affordable home. Their culture generally consists of a family-oriented feel that may not be for everybody, but surely provides a comforting relief to those who have found themselves engaging in lengthy conversations with automated messaging machines. A Small Orange is also one of the only hosting providers to proudly use green and eco-friendly technologies to power their resources. A Small Orange uses cutting edge technology to deliver industry standard services to some of the most process intensive web applications.

A Small Orange Features

Don’t judge a book by its cover. Although A Small Orange implies all things tiny, their package selections are feature-packed.  With the ability to install hundreds of applications through Softaculous, the possibilities are endless. Using their provided Softaculous interface, a customer can unleash a fully functional web store featuring OpenCart in just a few minutes.

Availability

After sifting through various web hosting discussion forums, it has been found that A Small Orange struggles to maintain a consistent uptime. While it is difficult to provide an average uptime based on a small sampling of discussion forums, complaints regarding A Small Orange’s uptime on the first page of a Google search is generally not a good sign.

Risk Mitigation

While downtime and data loss is never a good thing, A Small Orange tries to counteract some of these familiar problems with their Terms of Service. A Small Orange includes an uptime guarantee in their Terms of Service which specifies that “If A Small Orange fails to meet its uptime guarantee, you will be issued a credit equivalent to one (1) day of service per forty five (45) minutes downtime.” While it is appreciated that A Small Orange pays customers back for downtime, the amount of potential e-commerce revenue cannot be replaced by reimbursement of hosting costs.

Scalability

Many of A Small Orange’s packages provide customers with the ability to add additional bandwidth, storage space and performance. A Small Orange claims that their in-house experts can assist with upgrades and scaling. This personalized experience tends to resonate well over various web hosting discussion forums.

Reputation

While A Small Orange is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau, only 1 complaint was closed with the BBB in the last 3 years. This is a spectacular statistic and says a lot about A Small Orange’s quality of customer service. A Small Orange is also considered #4 in the top 10 web hosting companies list.

A Small Orange Pricing

Basic shared hosting packages perfect for blogs or small web ventures start at just $35 per year. Their more popular hosting plans start at around $10 per month and offer 5gb of storage, 100gb of bandwidth and 24/7/365 support. They also offer incentives such as 2 months of free hosting when you sign an annual contract.

Pros:

  • Very cheap hosting
  • Friendly, family-oriented customer support
  • Scalable
  • Solid reputation within the hosting industry

Cons:

  • Seems to struggle with uptime.

A small company with BIG solutions.

I can't say enough about this company. Not sure how I originally discovered them, however I'm glad that I did. I can't see myself ever switching to another hosting company. Their customer service and support is first class. GoDaddy and some of the other larger hosting companies could learn a thing or two from them.

I'd highly recommend them to any individual, start-up, or established company.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Cloud Hosting at ASO has been the best purchase I've made for a while, it supports my business & other websites/programs I need. It's super fast and is rarely offline - twice for five minutes with maintenance, and a few crashes here & there.

The Live Chat is decent, with friendly chatters but always referring to ticket. On the plus side ticket is usually faster then live chat, and they have some amazing people over there. The -1 star comes when my business was hacked into, I was not offered free support and referred to their advanced $75/hr fee to begin looking into this. I thought a simple checkup would be fair in the premium price paid. Anyway it's all good now!

Thanks for being the best cloud host ever!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Reliable e-commerce hosting

This review is for the ”Business Hosting” plan.

I was looking to switch hosting services and A Small Orange was highly recommended to me by a trusted source, so I decided to give them a try. I run a business and most of our marketing, leads and sales come from our online efforts and our website. My biggest problem that we were facing was to find a reliable company, because the current hosting company experienced a considerable amount of down time, and it seemed like they did not take it seriously, because we were getting generic feedback about the problems. After switching eight months ago to A Small Orange we were not disappointed. Over this time, we had minor glitches twice, but these guys handled it with professionalism, courtesy and dignity. They explained the problem in details and told us how they are going to fix it so that the problem will nor repeat itself.

Another thing that they offer with this plan that most other companies don't is the PCI Compliance - a must if you are doing any serious e-commerce.

The load times are fast and besides for the 2 minor, short glitches, we have not experienced any down time. I highly recommend this company.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
