About Air Writer 3D Pen

Air Writer 3D Pen is sold by Telebrands who says this handheld device allows you to defy gravity and draw in the air, creating plastic shapes, designs, models, or prototypes. They claim this pen, which uses threads of plastic as its “ink” is like having a 3D printer in your hand and the only limit in your creations is your imagination.

Telebrands sells hundreds of different gadgets and is the marketing company responsible for creating the “As Seen On TV” logo. Is this new product the creative innovation artists and designers are looking for, or is it junk? Let’s take a gander, shall we?

How Air Writer 3D Pen Works

Air Writer 3D Pen resembles more of an oversized magic marker than a pen; it is blue and white with a metal tip and has a removable plug for power. Telebrands states the secret to this pen-like device are the “color coils” aka long thin strands of different colored plastic that are heated up inside and then harden when exposed again to air.

To use Air Writer 3D Pen, the instructions say to plug in the pen, choose a color coil of choice, and place in the hole in the back; press a button that will automatically load it the rest of the way. Then, begin “drawing,” controlling the release of plastic with the white button on the side.

As you doodle with the Air Writer 3D Pen, the heated plastic will come out of the tip and quickly harden. This is what they claim allows you to create different plastic shapes and drawings, both flat on a piece of paper, or literally rising up into the air.

They suggest you can use Air Writer 3D to create a plastic model or design prototype, custom jewelry, designs for a smartphone case, trace a photo, and more. They exclaim you are only limited by your imagination.

Air Writer 3D Pen Pricing and Returns

Air Writer 3D Pen costs $19.99 plus $7.99 shipping/handing for a total of $27.98. This includes, the pen, 10 color refills, and 3D Blueprint Guide. At time of your order you can add a second Air Writer 3D Pen for $12.99 in fees. It should be noted that any and all fees are non-refundable, even if you return Air Writer 3D Pen within the allotted 30-day trial period; you must also pay to ship it back as well as include a written explanation as to the reason for your return or Telebrands could refuse you.

Bottom Line: Is Air Writer 3D Pen a Scam?

Air Writer 3D Pen is the “As Seen On TV” version of this newfangled technology, originally created by 3Doodler, which bills itself as the world’s first 3D printing pen. Their invention was successfully funded by a Kickstarter campaign last year, raising over 2 million dollars. 3Doodler pens, by comparison, cost $99 each. There are now lots of different knockoffs, including this Telebrands version.

Air Writer 3D Pen may indeed allow you to create plastic shapes, but it should be noted that:

  • The designs in the commercial were most likely created by professional artists
  • The length of the included color coils is unknown and there is no information about ordering more. (Telebrands uses an automated system for questions/ordering so we were unable to reach them for more information). Perhaps you can use 3Doodler refill plastic.
  • “As Seen On TV” products generally tend to disappoint.
  • If you do order this product, Telebrands’ Privacy Policy allows them to solicit you via email, telephone, and snail mail other products and services as well as give this info to third parties to do the same.

We suggest keeping these things in mind before ordering your Air Writer 3D Pen.
