In Part I of our Ultimate Skincare Guide, we discussed why the secret to healthy skin begins at night, as well as a step-by-step guide to achieving this. Now in Part II, we’ll discuss how to maximize the benefits you gained overnight and to get things going first thing in the morning.

Your Morning Regimen for Beautiful, Healthy Skin
Let me tell you a little secret: I love waking up in the morning and taking a look at how well my nightly regimen has worked. And in order to maintain my youthful glow and protect it throughout the remainder of the day, I also love starting my day off right by running through my morning routine.
But the truth is that I didn’t always wake up this way—it took me a lot of trial and error (not to mention hard work) to get my skin to this point. In fact, years ago I used to wake up afraid to see what my face looked like, terrified that I would have to skip yet another event because of the poor condition of my skin. And while my skin certainly isn’t always perfect, applying my nightly regimen and using quality skincare products ensures that I no longer have to live in fear.
Rinse, Tone, Repeat – Continuing Your Daily Beauty Regimen
Give Your Face a Rinse – By rinsing your face first thing in the morning, you’ll be proactively removing any creams applied the night before, as well as any natural oils that have accumulated throughout the night. While I understand some individuals may benefit from the moisturization provided by these “good” oils, my skin is already excessively oily, and will continue to produce oil throughout the day. With this in mind, depending on skin type and other factors (such as climate), you may wish to rinse only at night.
Remember that you don’t necessarily need to purchase different facial rinses for evening and morning. However, I will often splash cooler water on my face first thing in the morning, as a kind of “Hello! Let’s take on the day!”
Refresh with a Face Toner – Just like during my nightly regimen, I always apply toner immediately after washing my face in the morning. This accomplishes three primary goals:
- Removes excess oils.
- Provides an ideal preparation for my facial moisturizer.
- Gives me a fresh, “take-on-the-day” feeling.
Apply Face Lotion – Even if you already have oily skin, moisturization is still very important. However, it’s equally important to use a moisturizer that’s right for your skin type. For example: Even though my skin is naturally oily, it used to always peel and appear dry, despite the fact that I was applying moisturizer daily. It was only after doing some research that I learned my moisturizer was actually the culprit. Soon after, I switched to Anna Loton Skin Balancer, and my face has never felt—or looked—better.
Don’t Forget the SPF! – It’s no secret that our skin is sensitive to damage from the sun’s rays, so we need to do our best to provide as much protection as we can. If you skip this important step, you can significantly increase your chances of premature aging, and even of skin cancer. The good news is that most sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher typically do an excellent job of protecting against ultraviolet B (UVB) rays.
Ready for Your Make Up – After you’ve completed all of the above steps during your morning beauty regimen, your face is now ready for make up. If you haven’t been following these steps for at least a few days, you might find that your skin is flaking or it may look oily—conditions which will only be accentuated by applying makeup. If you find that this is the case, begin again with Part I, and see if the issue can be corrected.
Don’t Be Embarrassed of Your Skin Like I Used to Be
I’ll never forget it as long as I live: One evening, when I was out to dinner with a few friends, a guy leaned over and asked me to fix my makeup. Apparently, it was very spotty due to the dry greasiness of my skin. As you can imagine, the ordeal was extremely embarrassing, but it was also very eye opening.
Today, I now know how to take care of my skin, while enjoying the process behind it. Hopefully I can shed some light on the best way to maintain your skin’s youthful appearance, while also saving you from embarrassing moments like this. After all, wouldn’t you rather enjoy each day as the sun rises, instead of constantly being worried about your skin?
