About Big Red Blaster

Wish you could take the high-pressure technology found in professional fire hose nozzles, shrink it down, while maintaining all the intensity and accuracy? If so, the new Big Red Blaster spray nozzle claims to deliver.

Each Big Red Blaster is made of aircraft grade aluminum and stainless steel, so the company promises it’s built to last, and its 6-position control knob allows you to vary the stream from a light spray to a powerful blast. This way, Big Red Blaster might be ideal for a variety of tasks around the house, including:

  • Cleaning your eaves
  • Sweeping leaves and debris from your driveway
  • Watering your garden
  • Removing mold and mildew from your siding
  • Cleaning your car
  • Making patio furniture “instantly” look like new

And compared to traditional spray nozzles, Big Red Blaster’s ergonomic handle promises to provide a natural, comfortable grip. It’s even 60% stronger!

Now that spring has arrived, many of us are looking to wash away the long, cold winter from our houses. To accomplish this, there’s little doubt that Big Red Blaster could come in handy. But can you realistically expect it to provide the intensity and accuracy of a professional fire hose? Are there other options that might work as well—or better?

Let’s dive right in to this first question.

Is Big Red Blaster as Accurate & Intense as a Professional Fire Hose?

How Do Garden Hoses & Fire Hoses Work?

While there’s no need to go into too much detail here, related to products like Big Red Blaster, spray nozzles (also known as single-fluid nozzles) work by forcing water through a very small area, thereby creating pressure. The larger the outlet, the broader stream, but the lower the pressure. Smaller outlets will result in an increasingly fine stream with greater pressure.

Each time you turn Big Red Blaster’s control knob, you’ll change the size of the opening, thereby changing the water pressure and coverage area. Is this anything like a professional fire hose?

In two words? Pretty much. In other words, pressure can be created in much the same way. The catch is that there isn’t just one type of fire hose, and each type can put out varying amounts of water, depending on factors like “hose length, diameter and the amount of pressure in the pump.”

Comparing Big Red Blaster With a Fire Hose

With this said, a couple useful measurements for comparing professional fire hoses with what you might experience with Big Red Blaster is gallons per minute (GPM) and pounds per square inch (PSI). These calculate the flow of water and the amount of pressure, respectively. While it certainly varies, most residential water systems fall between 40-45 PSI and around 1-2 GPM, which is ultimately what you’ll like experience with just about any garden hose spray nozzle (Big Red Blaster included).

Comparatively, professional water hoses (or, at least the crosslay hoses most people immediately think of when talking about firefighting) can operate at 290 PSI and put out 95+ gallons per minute. Other hose types of firefighting hoses can reach 1,000 gallons per minute!

So, be sure to keep your expectations realistic. Will Big Red Blaster match the same accuracy as a professional fire hose? Perhaps. What about the same intensity? This largely depends on what the manufacturer means by the term, but based on what we just learned, this might be dubious.

Now, let’s cover Big Red Blaster’s price.

What Will You Pay for Big Red Blaster?

One Big Red Blaster spray nozzle will cost you $19.99 plus 6.95 S&H. You’ll also be able to purchase an X-Hose Pro Extreme (the updated version of the original XHOSE) at checkout for an additional $6.95 S&H.

All Big Red Blasters come with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges. Did you purchase the bonus offer? If so, this means you could lose almost as much in S&H charges as you’ll ultimately receive as a refund.

In order to request a refund, customer service can be reached at 866-966-1676.

Considering its price and features, can you find anything similar to Big Red Blaster?

Is Big Red Blaster Anything Unique?

Search online for “hose spray nozzle” or “ergonomic garden hose nozzle” and you’ll quickly find that you have hundreds of products to choose from, in all different shapes, sizes, and colors and at all different price points. You’ll certainly find at least a few more options at your local home and garden center, which provides the added advantage of putting your hands on the product before making a purchase.

Is there anything else out there exactly like Big Red Blaster? We didn’t come across anything specific during our research. However, there are two factors to keep in mind:

  1. Depending on your specific needs, some of these options might suit you better, and
  2. Many will come with lower S&H fees (or none, should you choose to buy locally), which might boost their overall value. This becomes even more of a factor if you decide to process a refund.

Should You Order Big Red Blaster?

As long as you keep your expectations realistic (e.g. based on residential water pressure, it probably won’t provide the same intensity or water output as a professional fire hose), Big Red Blaster might make a solid addition to your spray nozzle lineup.

But performance is only one big factor; overall value is another. From this perspective, based on the steep, non-refundable S&H charges, will Big Red Blaster provide the same bang-for-your-buck as local options? This certainly remains seen, although based on everything we’ve discussed here, it might be in your best interests to explore all your options before placing an order.

  • Not what we were told it would do

I purchased the Big Red Blaster based on the information I saw on a TV commercial as I was in need of cleaning my driveway and yard. The unit is a total disaster as far as it being a water pressure unit, I get better pressure and cleaning results from a $3.00 nozzle from the dollar store. I want my money back as the complete commercial was a falsehood and makes a mockery of truth in advertising.

The purchase price of $19.99 should be refunded.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Not happy

I ordered the big red and was excited when it finally was delivered. I wanted to clean my driveway, windows, etc. but was totally disappointed. My $6.00 nozzle bought at the local hardware store has a more powerful jet than the Big Red. I will never buy anything from a television marketing ad.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Big Red Blaster Nozzle

    • Ontario,
    • Jun 4, 2016

Just received mine, and as I thought, it didn't work as great as shown on TV, but I had hope. My regular nozzles have more output pressure than this thing. And I can't get a nice narrow spray, as shown on TV. Also, the variations of spray are not very symmetrical, kind of all over the place. I do like the handling features and ease of turning off at the nozzle, but not greatly impressed.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
