About BluCetin

Manufactured by SunDita, BluCetin is a dietary supplement that claims to feature synergistic ingredients that work to promote healthy liver function and immune support, and to counteract the negative effects of high fat/fried foods, soda, tobacco and alcohol, certain medications, household cleaning products, and air pollution. In other words, BluCetin claims to be “a smarter way to enjoy life responsibly.”

How Does BluCetin Claim to Work?

Once toxins from the foods you eat or from unavoidable environmental factors build up, they can cause your liver to struggle with removing them from your body. And after a while, BluCetin claims that this can negatively affect your energy level, physical appearance, your overall quality of life, and even the longevity of your life.

In order to counteract these effects, BluCetin is claimed to feature a synergistic ingredient compound that can help your liver function more effectively, and provide it with the support it needs to remove these toxins from your body. These ingredients include:

  • Milk Thistle Extract (standardized to contain 80% Silymarin) – Claimed to protect liver cell function.
  • Oriental Raisin Tree (Hovenia dulcis) extracts – A traditional Chinese ingredient for enhancing alcohol metabolism and detoxification.
  • Vitamin C – Claimed to provide antioxidants for immune support.
  • Electrolyte Blend – Claimed to help balance your body’s fluids.

The company claims that BluCetin is manufactured in the USA in a cGMP facility, and causes no side effects or adverse reactions.

In order to begin using BluCetin, the manufacturer recommends taking one tablet daily with a meal, while the On-the-Go tablets should be taken once before consuming alcohol or eating high-fat foods, and once afterward.

Can BluCetin Help Reduce the Effects of a Hangover?

Most of us enjoy a fun night out with friends, but no one enjoys the way we feel afterward. But can BluCetin help reduce these effects? Before making that final decision, let us throw the following at you:

What Causes Hangovers?

According to the Mayo Clinic, alcohol hangovers are caused by one or more of the following:

  • Excess urination, which can dehydrate your body.
  • Immune system inflammatory response, which can cause lack of concentration and memory problems.
  • Irritates the lining of your stomach, which can cause upset stomach and vomiting.
  • A drop in blood sugar, resulting in weakness and fatigue.
  • Blood vessels expand, leading to headaches.
  • Reduced quality of sleep, which can leave you groggy.

In other words, hangovers are caused by a multitude of factors, not just toxins in your body that your liver is unable to process.

Clinical Evidence for BluCetin

Although the manufacturer claims to only include evidence-based ingredients in their supplements, a disclaimer at the bottom of BluCetin’s home page states that any claims about Oriental Raisin Tree extracts are made “based upon traditional use only, not complete scientific data, in a form more concentrated than that which was typically used in traditional teas and other forms.”

Despite this, according to a January 2013 press release for BluCetin, a 2013 Journal of Neuroscience study claimed that Dihydromyricetin (the active ingredient in Oriental Raisin Tree extract) has “anti-alcoholic effects on animal models, and [was] determined [to be] a major molecular target and cellular mechanism of DHM for counteracting alcohol intoxication and dependence.” However, keep in mind that the study was performed on rats, and the DHM was injected, not taken orally.

Also, it’s important to note that, although the product’s website claims that BluCetin can “enhance alcohol metabolism,” according to Medicinenet, “Time is the only way to eliminate alcohol from your system.”

BluCetin’s Ingredients

Finally, the BluCetin website doesn’t provide a nutritional label, so there’s no way of knowing if the listed ingredients are the only ones contained in the supplement, or how much of each ingredient it contains. However, while it doesn’t appear to be the exact same product, a similar liver support formula is sold through the SunDita website for less money than BluCetin.

With this said, most of the ingredients contained in BluCetin do not have enough clinical evidence showing that they can help reduce the effects of a hangover or other exposure to toxins, although electrolytes can provide some support after a night of drinking. However, electrolytes can be obtained through a variety of other less expensive options.

Bottom line on BluCetin

Considering BluCetin’s high price and lack of clinical evidence supporting their claims, it may not be worthwhile to spend your hard-earned money on it. However, if you’re intent on seeing whether or not it can work for you, standalone Dihydromyricetin supplements can be purchased from a variety of companies, most of which are less expensive than BluCetin.

Pros:

  • Claims to support liver and immune system function.
  • Claims to help reduce the effects of a hangover.
  • 30-day refund policy.

Cons:

  • Very little clinical evidence supporting claims.
  • High price.
  • Refund policy only applies to unused product.
