About BodyLab

BodyLab claims to be a one-stop-shop for women’s online fitness motivation by offering recipes, exercises, challenges, and a line of health and fitness formulas that promise you can quickly “be the girl of your dreams.”

Promoted by Jennifer Lopez for it’s “holistic” approach to women’s health, on the surface BodyLab seems to offer all the free information a reasonably motivated person needs to achieve their basic fitness goals.

BodyLab also has a mobile app, keeping in trend with those who like to track their fitness on the go. Available for both Android and iPhones, the app lets users track their progress, calorie intake, exercises, and even locate “guilt-free meals” nearby.

But for those looking to “kick start” their body transformation, BodyLab also just so happens to offer a wide range of products and supplements geared specifically toward women. Purchasing any of the BodyLab products isn’t required to explore the resources on their site, but they are heavily promoted throughout.

How BodyLab Helps You “Love Your Body”

First-time visitors to BodyLab can choose from a menu of resources, including:

Recipes

To help you “build a better you,” many of the recipes featured on BodyLab are promoted as “JLo’s Favorites,” although at time of review, only twenty were available. The recipes aren’t particularly diverse, nor are they anything users couldn’t find elsewhere with a quick online search — in fact, you probably already know how to make more than half of them.

Options include grilled asparagus, vegetable soup, fish tacos, and even berry popsicles — they’re really going out on a limb here. On the up side, each recipe does list the calories, fats, proteins, and carbs per serving.

Fitness

Using BodyLab’s fitness tools requires that you sign up for an account, which is free, but the signup process is extensive. New users will be asked about their current fitness stats and goals, are given a suggested calorie range, and then are given different fitness plans to start depending on their stated preferences.

When attempting to sign up, we were only given one choice, the “intermediate” plan, and after we decided to play along, we were sorely disappointed. Unlike Nike’s Training Club or the numerous available YouTube tutorials, BodyLab doesn’t offer an automated timer, audio assistance, or anything to keep you going.

Instead, I was shown a list of exercises, mostly pushups, jumping jacks, and butt kicks, with a video option and a “flame” to click, which tells me when to stop that particular motion. While the entire workout regimen might be ok, I find having to come back to my laptop to scroll down, then click another timer every 60 seconds, really throws a wet towel on my motivation.

Expert Advice

This is a section where BodyLab might really shine! Unfortunately, their “Expert Advice” appears more like a series of articles out of Cosmo than something you might hear from Jillian Michaels.

The articles currently up are “How to Wear Pantone’s Color of the Year,” “How To Lose Weight and Look Great,” “Home Sick,” and “Apple Crisps.” What colors to wear and how to bake something? Gah! The content in their expert section makes BodyLab’s message of “For Women, By Women” appear pandering and hollow.

Community

Here, BodyLab members can talk to each other about their progress and ask questions. However, users will also see a fair amount of promotion for BodyLab products.

The community doesn’t seem very active, as most of the questions only have two or three comments in reply, and many are left unanswered.

What They’re Really Here For

After a thorough look at everything BodyLab has to offer for free, I headed over to their shopping section and found that this is where things get a little questionable.

The products offered include:

  • 7-Day Ultra Fast Slim Kit™ – $29.99
  • Thermodynamic Total Burn™ – $29.99
  • TastyShake™ Thermodynamic Protein Complex–Decadent Chocolate Fudge - $24.99
  • Endurance Boosting Deep Tissue Oxygenator – $29.99
  • TastyShake™ Complete Whey Protein Complex – $21.99
  • Thermodynamic Pre-Workout Extender™ – $29.99
  • Advanced Joint Formula for Active Women – $29.99

Are any of these products worth using? With proprietary blends that include ingredients such as celery powder, green tea extract, ginseng extract and cayenne pepper, they may offer some potential appetite curbing effects. However, since we’re not informed how much of these power-plant powders are included, you may be better off just mixing a spoonful in with your morning shake.

The BodyLab Promise

BodyLab brand claims that its supplements are formulated directly for women, unlike many health and fitness formulas that target building muscles and gaining mass.

What does that actually mean? In the words of BodyLab itself, their health supplements come with the following goals and features:

  • No Added Creatine
  • No Bulky Muscles
  • No Ingredients That Wreak Havoc On Your Hormones
  • Unique Blends Created With Plant-based Compounds
  • Designed To Burn Through Excess Body Fat And Get Lean
  • Formulas Based On Real, Scientific Research

There’s actually limited evidence supporting that women require different supplements than men to “get fit.” As such, BodyLab’s claims aren’t outright wrong, but they’re also not necessarily unique:

Supplements are big business and there are some better-known brands that are at least more accountable for both their ingredients, as well as the results they promise to help you achieve.

At least BodyLab products come with a generous “No Questions Asked” guarantee for every purchase. As such, if you’re not pleased within 30 days, return the empty bottle with your name and address and a complete refund (minus shipping and handling) will be issued.

BodyLab’s User Experiences

There aren’t many available reviews of BodyLab’s site, as they only recently partnered with Jennifer Lopez.

However, BodyLab products are available on Amazon, where the 7-Day Ultrafast Slim Kit holds a two-star rating based on eleven reviews. Users complain of a lack of results as promised, while others state that the pill is a gimmick.

The Whey Protein receives slightly better ratings, but with only three reviews.

What’s The Bottom Line On BodyLab Helping Your Bottom Line?

Overall, I wasn’t particularly impressed with the content and resources featured on BodyLab’s site. From recipes to fitness plans, everything appears pretty generic and simply a thinly veiled attempt to get users to purchase their products.

The products themselves are decently priced as fitness supplements go, and the percentage of protein in their mixes is similar to that found in other supplements. They don’t seem like a bad buy if the price, brand experience, or available flavors work for you.

    Love it.

    • Feb 7, 2016

I've been using tasty shake in my breakfast smoothies for a week now. With this, along with diet and exercise, I've lost eight lbs this week. The smoothies keep me full until snack time, and I do not feel deprived. I like the Body Lab tasty shake, and plan to continue using it until my goals are met.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Bodylab

Started the product 11/11/15. Day 2, I'm down 2 pounds. Don't feel really hungry, not at all jittery, I feel relaxed. I don't feel puffy, and I seem to look slimmer. Definitely would recommend the product and would use again. It actually works like it says. And due to menstrual, I have not exercised. I'm sure once that passes I'll have even better results. :)

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

BodyLab - I Love The Product

    • Lake Mary, FL,
    • Aug 22, 2015

My name is Michelle and I am 52 years old. I started using the BodyLab product and the website and I love it.

BodyLab gave me the motivation I needed to develop a healthy lifestyle and take better care of myself. I have been overweight since I went into menopause at the age of 41. Once I started gaining the weight, I would make an attempt to loose it, but I never was able to keep it off or stick with a program to continue to loose the weight.

My weight got to a whopping 240 lbs, I was miserable, unhappy, and was living an unhealthy lifestyle.

I started walking and this was the start of my weight loss journey. Then I started the Bodylab product and it made it so much easier for me. The website is very user friendly, and the product has made a tremendous difference in me.

I have lost 68 pounds and although I still have a ways to go, I will continue to use the Bodylab product to help me reach and maintain my goal. I live a more active lifestyle, from biking, walking, and hitting the gym 4 days a week. I feel good from the inside out and this is something that helps keep me young. I no longer skip breakfast in the morning. I have a BodyLab protein shake mixed with fruit and I start my day off right.

I'm a lot happier now than I have been in over 20 years. I just wish that I had this product around years ago.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Everyone's body is different!

    • Waxahachie, TX,
    • Jun 3, 2015

So I'm 19 and I have been using the Thermodynamic Total Burn Capsules for six weeks now and within a few days I already saw a difference in my body. I also workout maybe 3 times a week, I could do more but I'm a bum and don't have that commitment to sticking with my workouts.

Anyways, I have now lost most of my love handles and I am losing more of my belly, it's almost flat. THANK YOU JESUS! Or should I say thank you, J-LO!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
