About Chillow

Produced by Hampton Direct, a direct response marketing company, the Chillow is an “As Seen on TV” cooling pad that, when placed on your pillow, helps your head remain 10 degrees cooler throughout the night. Based out of Woodland Hills, CA, Chillow claims to be an ideal solution for individuals suffering from migraines, headaches, hot flashes, night sweats, backaches, sore feet, fevers, sunburns, and more. It requires no wiring or batteries, and has been featured on programs such as the Rachael Ray Show, Good Morning America, and the Today Show.

How the Chillow Pad Works

After receiving your Chillow in the mail, all that’s needed to activate it is water, though detailed instructions are included. The Chillow pad continuously circulates the water inside, which is used to absorb and disperse body heating, and to keep you cooler than your normal body temperature. In order to maximize the cooling effect, the company recommends keeping a portion of the pad’s surface exposed to air, which increases its ability to disperse heat.

Chillow claims that their pads are made of super soft, medical grade non-gel materials, and that they are latex-free, hypoallergenic, and non-toxic. They are also claimed to never leak due to vacuum-sealed edges. However, it’s important to keep in mind that sharp object such as earrings or pet claws may result in a puncture.

Chillow Pricing, Shipping and Returns

The Chillow costs $12.99 per pad, plus $6.95 for shipping. Like most other TV offers, purchases typically include a second Chillow offer, which is subject to an additional S&H charge of $6.95, bringing your total to $26.89. The Chillow comes with a 30-day money back guarantee, which does not include shipping and handling. If you’re unsatisfied with your Chillow for any reason, simply call 866-649-5819 to initiate the return process.

Pros:

  • Self-sufficient, without the need for electricity or refrigeration.
  • Claims to help keep you 10 degrees cooler.
  • Portable and easy to use.

Cons:

  • Hampton Direct, also known as Product Trend, LLC maintains an F rating with the Better Business Bureau.
  • Numerous consumers have complained of the Chillow’s inner fluids leaking and penetrating their mattresses. Even without leaking, a wide variety of customers have also complained that the product’s smell is horrible, and have compared it to “poison.”
  • Many owners have grumbled that if you toss and turn during the night, the Chillow can move beneath your shoulders. However, this can likely be addressed by placing it in your pillowcase.
  • Like most “As Seen on TV” products, the Chillow looks good on TV, but tends to perform poorly in real life.

This thing is awful, it tangled up the first night. How do I return it for a refund?

    Wonderful for dogs

I have had 6 Chillows to date, and have ordered 4 more. I bought them when they first came out, about 2 years ago. My two Pomeranians lie on them constantly. They are a perfect size for a small dog and their claws do not puncture the material. I put water in them every two months or so and they have performed beautifully.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Waste of Money

I received the Chillow as a Christmas gift and am totally disappointed with this product. I followed the setup instructions to the letter, but it only stayed cool for less than an hour and it leaked, despite the fact that the plug was securely seated and there were no holes to be found, wetting my bedding and mattress.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Not worth it.

    • Jun 23, 2015

Bought the Chillow for my boyfriend who experiences frequent night sweats. Setting it up was easy; as all you really have to do is pour water into the spout and wait the 4 hours. After 4 hours had passed, I pressed down and expelled excess air as indicated. At max, the Chillow was slightly cold, and stayed such for an hour (if that). In my opinion, not worth purchasing.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Get your boyfriend to a doctor. Night sweats can be a symptom of serious disease.

    I wish it didn't leak

I am at that age where I have hot flashes in addition to migraines. I loved the feel of this and it helped me get to sleep. If it didn't leak I would still use it. It doesn't keep its cool but that is just science. The Chillow absorbs your body heat until it reaches the same temperature. I have a gel pillow now and it is the same thing. When it absorbs my body heat I turn it over and it is just a regular pillow.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
