About CompareCards.com

At its most basic, the goal of CompareCards.com is to help you compare the best credit card offers.

What does “best” mean? That’s totally up to you.

Because everyone’s needs are different, CompareCards.com gives you the ability to sort offers based on specific factors like interest rates, balance transfers, rewards programs, and card types. You can even select offers tailored to your credit rating, or ones offered only by certain companies, like Visa, MasterCard, etc.

After choosing a category, you’ll see each card option displayed, along with important information like intro APR, annual fees, credit needed, and more. Interested? Click either the Add To Compare button to view later (and to compare side-by-side with other card offers), or the Apply Button if you’re ready to go.

And if you need help at any point along the way, you can speak to a live representative at 800-747-3893.

Type the phrase “credit card comparison sites” into any search engine, and you’ll receive millions of hits. But is there anything that separates CompareCards.com from the competition, and can they really help you “choose wisely?”

How Does CompareCards.com Stack Up Against the Competition?

Frankly, there doesn’t appear to be much on the CompareCards.com website that you wouldn’t find through much of the top competitors like CreditCards.com, CreditKarma.com, BankRate.com, and many others. Pick a category, save cards you’re interested in, compare them side by side, and then apply if the time’s right.

Granted, this doesn’t mean you won’t find good information on CompareCards.com. Here, in addition to searching and applying for credit card offers, you’ll also be able to review in-depth blog posts, FAQs, a glossary, and other educational tools.

Want to know how long it will take to pay off your debt, or how much it will cost to transfer a balance? CompareCards has calculators for that too.

Finally, you’ll also be able to order a free credit report, learn how to repair your credit, and sign up for CompareCard.com’s identify theft protection.

Again, as you can see, CompareCards.com provides some valuable information and services that can help keep your financial house in order. But everything they offer is also provided through dozens of other nearly identical websites, so be sure to do your research!

Speaking of which, is CompareCards.com a good research tool?

Can You Trust CompareCards.com’s Information?

Whether we’re discussing anti-aging products or financial tools, we’ve talked a lot about websites that convince you to buy based on misleading information. You’ll even come across other consumer review sites that claim to be objective, but are actually just fronts for companies to sell you their products.

For example: a bank creates a website to help you compare credit cards. But the only options are cards offered through that specific bank, who might skew information in their favor to create more sales.

CompareCards.com does not appear to be one of these companies. They even expressly state:

“Our editors rate credit cards objectively based on the features the credit card offers consumers, the fees and interest rates, and how a credit card compares with other cards in its category. The ratings are the expert opinion of our editors, and not influenced by any remuneration this site receives from card issuers.”

Ok, their information doesn’t appear biased. But if they’re not selling something, how do these sites make money?

How Does CompareCards.com Make Money?

We’re not insiders at CompareCards.com, so we definitely don’t know their exact business model. But companies like CompareCards.com generally make money by acting as affiliates for the card offers they advertise.

If you find a credit card offer you like, apply for it and are approved, CompareCards.com gets a cut of the action. If you’re successful, they make some money.

As the link above notes, this can make it difficult to determine if a card is recommended based on your needs, or based on the website’s higher commission rate.

Certainly, we’re not saying CompareCards.com uses any less-than-stellar business practices (as we outlined in the previous section, too). This is just something to keep in mind, regardless of the credit card comparison site you’re using.

So, CompareCards.com appears to be completely legit, but are other customers happy with the site?

User Reviews for CompareCards.com

CompareCards.com has been in business since 2005, so they’ve had plenty of time to receive a lot of online customer reviews.

On TrustPilot, CompareCards.com had a 4-star (great) rating, based on 310 customer reviews. Most compliments referenced ease of use, the ability to compare cards, and personalized customer service. On the other hand, some users didn’t appreciate that CompareCards.com seemed difficult to navigate, and that it wasn’t available on mobile (it was mobile-optimized at the time of our research, 8/27/15).

Similarly, CompareCards.com (based out of Charleston, SC) also had an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. There was just one complaint, although no details were available.

Is CompareCards.com the Right Credit Card Comparison Site for You?

Good financial practices are basic and (generally) unchanging. Don’t spend more than you earn, set aside money for savings, limit the use of credit cards, and so forth.

Because it’s relatively straightforward and unchanging, you’ll find sound financial advice sprinkled all across the internet. So is the financial information on CompareCards.com unique? For the most part, it doesn’t seem to be.

Can you find many of the same credit card offers on other comparison sites? Almost certainly. But can CompareCards.com help bring you one step closer to an ideal credit card offer?

As long as 1) you don’t forget to read the fine print for any offer you’re considering, 2) make sure you’re investigating any comparison sites you’re using (HighYa is a great place to start!), and 3) checking local banks and credit unions as alternatives, the answer should be “yes!”
