About Contour Ab Belt

Contour Ab Belt is a complete core sculpting system that can provide a leaner, firmer, and stronger waistline in as little as 8 weeks, without requiring you to do sit ups or crunches.

This “extremely effective” muscle stimulator uses medical-grade technology to automatically target, contract, strengthen, and tone all of your abdominal muscles, including upper abs, obliques, and lower abs—all at the same time. In fact, unlike sit-ups or crunches, Contour Ab Belt gives you up to 199 perfect contractions during each 30-minute session!

Each FDA-cleared Contour Ab Belt features an ergonomic design, 26 built-in programs, and an easy to read digital display, making it simple to operate and completely safe to use. And along with its patented fat-burning supplement, the system can help you increase metabolism, shed inches, and get a stronger core.

In our experience, exercise devices that promise to “do more with less effort” generally don’t live up to expectations. But is the Contour Ab Belt any different?

We’re here to answer all your questions, so let’s start by taking a look at the technology behind the Contour Ab Belt.

What is Electrical Muscle Stimulation?

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) is defined as “the elicitation of muscle contraction using electric impulses.”

In layman’s terms, this simply references a device that sends an electrical current through electrodes, usually attached to the skin using self-adhesive pads. This current contracts the muscles underneath, simulating a contraction that would occur during normal exercise. But is it effective?

A large number of clinical studies have taken place to gauge EMS’s effectiveness, and there’s some strong evidence that they can help in physical rehabilitation. However, it’s important to draw a distinction between prescription EMS devices and those available over the counter, like Contour Ab Belt.

Does Electrical Muscle Stimulation Work?

This largely depends what you mean by “work.”

To explain, it’s important to mention that all EMS devices must be registered with the FDA in order to be sold in the United States. So, while it’s certainly positive that the Contour Ab Belt is registered with the FDA, it doesn’t mean anything significant. In other words, the company is just complying with the law.

According to the FDA, OTC electrical stimulation devices may tone, firm, and strengthen abdominal muscles, but are not cleared to “provide weight loss, girth reduction, and "rock hard" abs.” On the other hand, prescription devices are cleared to treat a variety of conditions, includingmuscle re-education, relaxation of muscle spasms, increased range of motion, prevention of muscle atrophy,” and more.

What’s this mean for you?

Despite the 8-week study cited in the Contour commercial (more about this next), there is insufficient evidence (whether through the FDA or within the scientific community as a whole), showing that EMS devices can help you lose weight, shrink your waistline, or give you “six-pack abs”.

Sure, they might slightly increase the strength of your abdominal muscles, but by and large, you shouldn’t expect the “amazing” results shown in the Contour Ab Belt commercial.

But what about the System’s supplement? Will it help you lose weight?

Will the Contour System’s Supplement Help You Shed Pounds?

Amazingly, Contour Ab Belt’s supplement claims to help you lose 200% more weight than diet and exercise alone, using only the following ingredients:

  • 7-Keto (3-acetyl-7-oxo-dehydroepiandrostene) 100mg
  • Proprietary Blend 250mg: Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis) Extract (leaf) [std. to 50% polyphenols by UV (125mg), Cathechin 30% by HPLC (75mg(, 15% EGCG by HPLC (37.5mg)]

To back up these claims, the System’s commercial states: “In an 8-week clinical study, test subjects on a diet of 1800 calories per day with three one-hour workouts per week lost an average of 200% more weight than those who took a placebo and followed the same diet and exercise regimen.”

Unfortunately, the company doesn’t provide a link to this study, which would provide a great deal of credibility. But what does science have to say?

7-keto-DHEA is closely related to DHEA (also known as a “parent hormone”) that’s often featured in weight loss supplements. However, there isn’t enough evidence showing this ingredient to be effective.

Green tea contains epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a chemical that’s been studied for effectiveness against a wide range of conditions, although there remains insufficient evidence showing it can provide any weight loss benefits.

In short, it doesn’t appear any of the ingredients in Contour Ab Belt’s supplement will help you lose any additional weight, outside of diet and exercise (remember this, because we’ll come back around to it shortly).

For now, let’s talk about Contour’s pricing.

How Much Does the Contour Ab Belt System Cost?

When it comes to the Contour System, there are two purchasing options to choose from:

  • A 30-day trial for $49.95 plus $10.95 S&H. After 30 days, you’ll be billed four monthly payments of $49.95, bringing your total to $260.70.
  • A single payment option of $199.80 (plus $10.95 S&H), saving you $49.95.

Whichever option you choose, your order will include:

  • M2 Muscle Stimulator
  • Ab Belt
  • 4-gel pads
  • 4-AAA batteries
  • Lead-wires
  • Use and Care Manual
  • Healthy Eating Guide
  • 1 Bottle of FAT BURNER
  • Storage/Travel Case

Important note: In the Contour Ab Belt FAQ, the company references an auto-shipment program where you’ll receive a fresh supply of gel pads once per month. However, this isn’t referenced anywhere else on the product’s website, and no additional details were provided.

Contour Ab Belt’s Refund Policy

Contour Ab Belt’s return policy is a little complicated, depending on which option you choose.

For example, you can return your Contour Belt within the 30-day trial, although you’ll lose your original $49.95 payment, as well as the cost of S&H. You might also be subject to a 15% restocking fee if any products are not in saleable condition.

Single payment options also come with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges and a $9.95 restocking fee.

No refunds are available on opened gel pads, or on the body cream or supplement.

For complete details, be sure to read through the return instructions in the Return Policy.

Contour Ab Belt’s Warranty

All Contour System purchases come with a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

Important note: Although you’re led to believe otherwise, there doesn’t appear to be a difference in warranties between the 30-day trial and single pay options.

In order to cancel your trial or request a refund, you’ll need to contact Teksmart Fitness customer service at 844-248-6072.

Watch Out for Arbitration

You might not have ever heard about an arbitration agreement, but they basically limit your legal rights if you were to experience damages, whether physical or financial.

This means that by placing an order on the Contour Ab Belt website, you’ll be waiving your right to a trial by jury or to becoming part of a class action lawsuit.

Taking all of this together, should you buy Contour Ab Belt?

Should Contour Ab Belt be Your Next Fitness Device?

When it comes down to it, the only way to effectively reach your weight loss or fitness goals is by eating healthy and exercising regularly. There’s simply no way around it.

Sure, Contour Ab Belt might help you get firmer, stronger abdominal muscles, but there’s no clinical evidence showing EMS devices can give you a six pack or shrink your waistline. In other words, if this is what you want, you’re going to have to put in the sweat and hard work to make it happen.

Instead of ordering Contour Ab Belt, we’d recommend speaking with your physician or a personal trainer about effective methods of achieving a flatter, firmer belly. After all, once you learn how to exercise and maintain a healthy weight, you’ll be able to rock that flat stomach for years to come!
