About DentalPlans.com

Based in Plantation, Florida, DentalPlans.com is a company that aims to help individuals, families, businesses and groups save money on their dental care by providing a wide range of alternative coverage options. The company claims to have more than 100,000 participating dentists, and consider themselves to be an alternative to traditional insurance by providing numerous dental plans that can accommodate a wide variety of budgets.

How DentalPlans.com Works

Here’s an example of how DentalPlans.com works: Imagine that you’ll be undergoing a large number of root canals this year, and are looking for a way to save some money. After visiting the DentalPlans.com site and entering your zip code, you learn that there is a root canal plan available in your area, as well as a participating dentist (that is, a dentist who accepts a plan through DentalPlans.com). You learn that, with this particular plan, you’ll receive X percent off each of the root canals you undergo this year. As long as your total savings is greater than the cost of the plan, you’ve saved money.

In addition to root canals, DentalPlans.com offers dental plans for a range of other services, including:

  • Checkups and X-Rays
  • Root Canals
  • Cleanings and Sealants
  • Gum Treatments
  • Fillings and Crowns
  • The company also offers additional packages for vision, hearing, and much more.

While the company claims that most plans become active within three business days, it’s important to note that you cannot combine discounts through DentalPlans.com with any of your existing insurance, as long as you have coverage remaining. In other words, if your existing dental insurance only covers a specific annual limit, and you exceed this limit, you can then purchase a plan through DentalPlans.com, but not use it before. Also, you cannot buy and use more than one plan at a time at any single dental office.

DentalPlans.com Pricing and Refund Policies

DentalPlans.com offers individual plans beginning at $79.95 per year, and family dental plans at $129.95 per year. Larger groups and businesses should contact the company directly for a specialized quote. Once your dental plan is chosen, it must be fully paid for prior to activation, and your annual fee will continue to be automatically charged to the credit card on file. In other words, it is your responsibility to manually cancel the service once you no longer need it.

While the DentalPlans.com refund policies tend to vary by state, they typically offer a full refund, minus a $15.00 processing fee, if you cancel your dental plan within 30 days of activation. After this 30-day period, customers can still be eligible for a prorated refund if they have not received the services agreed to in their contract, and/or if the dental provider does not accept their plan.

Pros:

  • Inexpensive dental plans that can be an alternative to traditional dental insurance.
  • Wide range of plan types that provide numerous coverage options.
  • More than 100,000 participating dentists.
  • Activation occurs within three business days.
  • DentalPlans.com customers are eligible for a full refund if canceled within 30 days of activation.

Cons:

  • Numerous complaints which claim that dentists listed on the site never actually participated in the plans.
  • $15.00 processing fee applied to refunds.
  • DentalPlans.com is not dental insurance, and cannot be applied to your existing dental insurance plan. However, Dentalplans.com may be used only as a supplement to your existing insurance once you exceed your annual limit
  • Customers cannot purchase and use more than one plan at a time at a single dental office.

    This is a scam

    • Eugene, OR,

I purchased one of these plans hoping to save a percentage on dental work. I called every dentist on their list and not a single one had ever heard of the plan, signed up to be a provider on the plan, or had any intention of providing discounted fees. There may be some looser dentist somewhere in America who participates in this plan, probably censored by their licensing board and working out of his/her basement for cash only. Watch out.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    They Stink!

This company is a rip-off. They are an administrative nightmare. They charge your credit card automatically without any approval. When you complain, they give you the run around. I've had to dispute their charges through my credit card company twice. Stay away from Dentalplans.com!
