About Engrave-It Pro

Engrave-It Pro claims to be an amazing new cordless engraving tool that works just like a pen, but that permanently engraves any surface, including metal, wood, glass, and copper. According to the manufacturer, Engrave-It Pro’s diamond infused tip works with power and precision to engrave keys or tools, and to help you make creative designs on home décor or glassware.

Are you a do-it-yourselfer with a broad collection of tools, but keep losing them because you don’t have them engraved with your initials? Or, are you an arts and crafts aficionado, and are dreaming about the creative possibilities Engrave-It Pro could open up? In either instance, can you expect Engrave-It Pro to deliver? Consider the following:

There Are Other Fish in the Sea

A quick online search for “handheld engravers” will provide dozens of options, many of which may be available at local retailers. Granted, they may come attached to a cord, and may not come with stencils, but by the time you factor in the non-refundable S&H charges (more about this in the Pricing section), these options may end up being less expensive than Engrave-It Pro.

Keep Your Expectations Realistic

Next, if performed by hand, it’s important to keep in mind that engraving takes a fair amount of practice to master, and you’re unlikely to get professional results (like those shown in the Engrave-It Pro’s commercial) your first time around. In fact, if you remember the initials engraved into the tools shown in the Engrave-It Pro commercial, this is likely what you can expect your beginning results to look like.

In addition, some of the pictures shown on the Engrave-It Pro website don’t even appear to be engraving, such as the glass with the large “D.” Instead, this appears to be glass etching, which is much different (and much more precise, especially for beginners) than engraving.

In short, at least when you first begin, your results with Engrave-It Pro will probably be much more functional than they will be artful.

Should You Be Worried Customers Aren’t Talking About Engrave-It Pro?

In short, no. This is because Engrave-It Pro is a very new product, and didn’t have any online customer reviews available at the time of our research.

However, we did learn that Engrave-It Pro is manufactured by Spark Innovators, a relative newcomer to the world of “As Seen on TV” products. The company also makes InVinceable, which already has 20 reader reviews here on HighYa (as of 2/2/15) and an average rating of 2 stars. This is primarily due to complaints of failure to work as advertised, high S&H charges (we’ll talk more about this next), and additional products added to online orders without customer’s knowledge. This may not be what to expect with your Engrave-It Pro, but it’s definitely worth mentioning.

Despite these complaints, Spark Innovators holds an A+ Better Business Bureau rating, with only 4 closed complaints (as of 2/2/15).

Engrave-It Pro Pricing & Refund Policy

2 Engrave-It Pros are priced at $10 plus $15 S&H, which also includes 2 clip-on magnifiers, 2 replacement tips, and two sets of 3 stencils. Note: There isn’t any information provided as to how you can obtain additional replacement tips for your Engrave-It Pro.

Engrave-It Pro comes with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges. This means you’ll immediately lose $15 in S&H if you decide to return your Engrave-It Pros, in additional to whatever it’ll cost to send them back to the manufacturer. This means you could receive less than half of your total cost in return if you’re dissatisfied.

Nonetheless, if you’d like to request a refund, you’ll need to contact customer service at 888-470-1136.

Can Engrave-It Pro Help You Create Functional Works of Art?

Chopping to the point: Engrave-It Pro can probably help you easily add initials to tools and other utilitarian surfaces (such as keys), and with sufficient skill—which isn’t included with your order—it might even be useful for creating beautiful arts and crafts.

However, local retailers near you almost certainly offer similar options to Engrave-It Pro, which could make the return process as easy as hopping in your car if you’re dissatisfied. In fact, many of Spark Innovators’ other products are stocked at popular third-party retailers, including Sears, Walgreens, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Home Depot, so you might want to wait until this occurs with Engrave-It Pro to save on the high S&H charges.

    I really like it.

My friend and I have a start up Etsy store and I found this at a local store for $3. I figured it sounded too good of a thing for $3, but it's a small amount to gamble on so I got it. I've never had anything like this before but I'm impressed so far. You can write really small on glass, rocks, plastic, seemingly anything. For $3 it's a steal and I have found replacement heads for $8-10 on places like eBay and Amazon, and I'm planning on ordering some just because I can see myself using it so much. It does seem to etch more than engrave, but this is great for my needs and I love it for the price and stuff.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Good bang for your buck

Ok, so it is not a very fancy engraver but it is ten dollars. No one should expect fancy most ten dollar stuff is junk. However, it is easier to use especially once you get the hang of it and figure out how to do it to your standards. It has a small tip so the lines will be small. I find it somewhat harder on wood put I prefer wood burning there. It even does rock which is great. I am planning on using this for a bible school project for pocket rocks for 9-12 year olds. As for the tips, who cares because I have done so much with just one tip. It is not close to being over yet and I have a replacement tip. I plan just to pitch it and replace it with a new one.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Zero stars, junk

I'm laughting my butt off, because some of the people posting reviews about this product must work for the company. I twisted the POS to put batteries in it, and the whole thing fell apart. You can build the thing for $2. And these people are not the only ones that do a lot of projects, and if they are comparing this junk to their Dremel, then their Dremel is junk.

    Great little gadget.

I was Googling the Engrave-it Pro (to order some tip replacements), when I came across this article. Let me put everyone's mind at ease. It works GREAT. I have only had it for about a week, and I've completed several projects already (hence reordering tip replacements). My first two projects turned out beautifully. I engraved designs into colored wine bottles, then inserted very small LED lights. I've also used it on picture frames, keys, and plastic. It worked great on every surface so far. And you definitely can't beat the price. Best thing I've purchased in years. Now I just need to figure out how to get more tip replacements.

    It's FINE for the PRICE.

The damn thing is $10 in a store or like $15 after shipping. For 15 bucks, this is the best engraver/etching tool that I have had and I own a Dremel tool with all its attachments. I love my Dremel, but when you just want to goof around and craft and don't feel like taking out all the stuff, this tool is perfect. Some people need to realize you get what you pay for. So if it's 10 bucks, its a 50/50 chance it's going to be crappy. In my case, I'm lucky and I love my Engrave It.

Not bad for little jobs but why can't you buy replacement tips for the engraver? Why would anyone want to buy something that you can't get tips to replace when they are wore out?

Engrave It Pro is the worst piece of anything I have ever purchased in my entire 49 years of life. It fell apart as soon as I unscrewed it to put batteries in. This is the biggest piece of crap engraver ever. Who ever sells these to unsuspecting public should be fined a hefty amount. Do yourselves a favor and do not purchase one of these. I would give this negative 100 stars but it's not an option on this review.

Mine works just fine. I don't know what that person was doing when he was putting batteries in it. Just because he probably could not get it apart, he probably used pipe wrenches. It's not bad for the money.

Pipe wrenches? It twists off and you put batteries in. The parts all fell out. It came apart just fine, but that was all that was fine. You must be the chosen one.

I just bought one on a whim at CVS, it works better than I would have ever imagined! Grabbed a few dollar store champagne glasses to practice on. Next I will be custom engraving ornaments for Christmas gifts, so excited to use it on more.

Mine works great dude. For 10-15 bucks it's pretty legit and I actually have a legit Dremel tool. I would rather just whip this out than plugging in the Dremel just for something simple.

Mine exploded when I tried to change the battery. I can't get it together.
