About Fidget Fun Block

Published on: May 4, 2017

The Fidget Fun Block is a novelty item aimed at helping individuals control and manage their urges to fidget. It also claims to help you stay productive and calm throughout the day by giving you a focused experience with an object custom-tailored for fidgeting.

The device is shaped like a cube, with each of its 6 sides featuring a different functionality to play around with. There is, in no particular order, a switch, a circular dial, a series of buttons, a gaming joystick, some gears, and finally, a depressed smooth area for rubbing. The Fidget Fun Block appears to only come in one color combination, which is white with black buttons and features.

The Fidget Fun Block is supposed to be designed to combat fidgeting by giving you these various functionalities, allowing you to fixate on the device while working as a means of increasing your productivity and lessening unwanted distractions to maximize productivity when you need it most.

Here at HighYa, we’ve noticed a seemingly large influx of cubes similar to the Fidget Fun Block on the market recently. This begs the question….is the Fidget Fun Block an original product, or is it simply a copy of the original? Which one came first?

Are There Products Similar To The Fidget Fun Block?

In short, the answer is yes. Based on our research, it looks like a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for a product by the name of the Fidget Cube launched in August of 2016. The campaign went on to be the 23rd largest crowdfunding endeavor ever, raising over $6 million dollars according to Wikipedia.

Looking deeper into this product, it appears that around December of 2016, the company behind the Kickstarter, Antsy Labs, posted an update detailing a delay in the shipment of the Fidget Cube due to issues with their supplier.

One of our staff members here at HighYa actually received another knockoff version of the Fidget Cube (not the Fidget Fun Block), and reported that the joystick began to creak and rattle a little more than a week after getting the cube in the mail. That’s certainly not to say that this is what will happen if you purchase a Fidget Fun Block, but it’s important to keep in mind, especially considering the fact that all of the various Fidget Cube knockoffs in the wild appear to be using a mold that is almost identical to the original images shown on the Fidget Cube Kickstarter page, down to the individual functionality of the sides.

Fidget Fun Block Pricing & Return Policy

Currently, the Fidget Fun Block is available either by phone or via the main website for the product. It would appear to cost $10, plus $7.99 for shipping & handling, but upon closer inspection, it looks like the product is only available via a “Double Offer”. This means you’ll receive a separate Fidget Fun Block, and be required to pay an additional $7.99 shipping & handling fee. Finally, the website also states that there is a one dollar service fee attached to every order. This brings your grand total when purchasing the Fidget Fun Block to $26.98.

All purchases of the Fidget Fun Block are stated to be backed by a 60-day Money Back Guarantee. In order to take advantage of the refund, you’ll need to contact customer service at 855-737-4219 to acquire a return authorization number. The company asks that you provide your complete name, address, daytime telephone number and email address inside the return package when returning your item.

You’ll be responsible for any fees to get the package back to the manufacturer, and the initial processing/web service fees are not included in the refund. This apparently means that out of a total of $26.98, you are only eligible for a refund amount of $10.

So, now that we know how much a Fidget Fun Block will cost, what do we know about how it might be able to help you? In order to properly answer that question, we need to take a look at the science behind fidgeting, and how it affects us all.

How Does Fidgeting Affect Our Lives?

Fidgeting is one of the more common little habits that one can have, and yet we don’t understand exactly why we do it. According to an article in the Huffington Post, fidgeting might be a way that the body deals with complex thoughts.

Karen Pine, a professor of psychology at the University of Hertfordshire was quoted in the article for elaborating on this subject. “There is also something called the cognitive load hypothesis, suggesting that when we have to deal with complex thoughts or problems we offload some of the cognitive load into movement, thus freeing up resources to devote to the mental process.

While I cannot say this is a conclusive explanation for fidgeting, these findings do suggest that it may be linked to the way in which an individual processes their thoughts and speech.”

For many, fidgeting is viewed as nothing more than an annoyance and a bad habit. Despite this, the science behind how fidgeting affects our day-to-day productivity is actually quite fascinating, and paints a slightly different picture. In this article by Fast Company, the author references a 2005 study that concluded that children who were allowed to fidget learned more quickly than those who weren’t allowed.

Another study conducted in 2015 by UC Davis Health produced similar results.

Fidgeting might also be of some use in an entirely different area of our health; fighting weight gain. A study carried out by the Mayo Clinic showed that those who are fit tend to fidget more throughout the day, while those who are obese tend to sit still more often.

This suggests that even the small, non-exercise movements that make up most fidgeting habits actually serve a function in helping us keep the weight down.

So, what does this tell us? It looks as though fidgeting, while often looked down upon, actually might have some very real benefits for our bodies, as well as our everyday lives.

The Bottom Line: Is The Fidget Fun Block Right For You?

Let’s put everything we’ve learned about the Fidget Fun Block together. We’ve looked at where the product comes from, as well as who designed the original product it is based on. We’ve established that the Fidget Fun Block is an extremely similar product to the original offering, and one that costs more overall than the original (due to the fact that you can only order Fidget Fun Cubes as a double order).

Considering all of this, as well as the fact that it appears to be impossible to receive a full refund for the amount you’ll pay, we don’t feel fully confident that you’ll be making a good investment by purchasing the Fidget Fun Cube due to the fact that you could instead purchase the original product through the rightful manufacturer, mainly because of the potential issues with defects and other abnormalities when compared to the original product.

If you’re interested in making a purchase, we’d recommend purchasing the original Fidget Cube, though it does appear that it is still only available for Pre-Order from Antsy Labs. The most recent update claims that orders are getting caught up by the day, and that they are making steady progress on getting the backlog of backer orders fulfilled.

All in all, we feel that all of the various Fidget Cube products seem like a truly novel idea and something that might indeed be genuinely helpful for natural fidgeters; we just think that based on the issues possibly surrounding the imitation versions, as well as the price difference, you might be better off overall going straight to the source.

All of that said, in the case of the Fidget Fun Block, we are at least somewhat optimistic that those who frequently fidget might be able to see a real benefit from the product itself. Just be sure to keep all of your options in mind when going into the purchase.
