About Fight Mite

Billed as “the world’s first dust mite detection, capture, and removal system,” Fight Mite claims to be an eco-friendly way to simply and safely remove dust mites for up to 90 days.

According to the manufacturer, Fight Mite is so easy to use that it works over 3 simple steps:

  1. Place Fight Mite pads around your home where dust mites hide, including under cushions and area rugs, on upholstered furniture, under mattresses, under pet beds, in linen closets, and more.
  2. After 90 days have passed, these pads will be filled with thousands of dust mite remains, due to Fight Mite’s “trade secret blend ingredients” that attract dust mites, allow them to enter the pads, but doesn’t allow them to escape.
  3. Throw away the entire pad and replace with a new one.

Despite how easy and simple it sounds, should you hand over your money for Fight Mite? Consider the following:

What Are Dust Mites? What Problems Do They Cause?

Attention: Gross alert!

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, dust mites are small (about one-quarter to one-third of a millimeter) whitish bugs with 8 legs that “feed chiefly on the tiny flakes of human skin that people normally shed each day. These flakes work their way deep into the inner layers of furniture, carpets, bedding, and even stuffed toys. These are the places where mites thrive. An average adult person may shed up to 1.5 grams of skin in a day, this is enough to feed 1 million dust mites!”

While dust mites may be incredibly small, they can cause some pretty severe problems. In fact, about 20 million Americans are allergic to dust mites, which can cause you to “feel as if you have an endless cold or even asthma.”

With this said, can you reasonably expect Fight Mite pads to help clear your home of dust mites and clear your sinuses of allergies?

How Effective Are Fight Mite Pads?

In short, there’s simply no way to know, since the manufacturer leaves out a lot of important information about Fight Mite, including how big of a radius the pads will work with, what they contain, how many pads it will take to clear an area, and more.

With this said, based on some of the pictures shown on the Fight Mite website, it appears that you’d use 2-4 pads on a medium-sized sofa or mattress, which means that it would likely take dozens to clear your whole house of dust mites.

Where to Place Fight MitesBased on the Fight Mite website, you’ll use several pads per sofa and mattress in your house.

Similar Options to Fight Mite

While they may be more expensive, keep in mind that the most popular method for avoiding dust mites is through specialized bedding, such as mattress pads, toppers, pillows, and more. Despite the initial investment though, these options will generally provide years of service, and simply need to be washed when the time comes.

On top of this, Medicinenet provides several preventative dust mite strategies you can use, including:

  • Keeping humidity in your home at 50% or less
  • Wash all your bedding at least once a week in hot water
  • Use synthetic bedding instead of wool or feathers
  • Use a vacuum cleaner that contains a double-layered microfilter bag or a HEPA filter

Fight Mites, Not Arbitration

Finally, keep in mind that you’ll automatically be bound to an arbitration agreement after placing your Fight Mite order, which means that if you sustain damages, your legal rights will be severely restricted. This includes becoming part of a trial by jury or a class action lawsuit.
