Genucel Review: What You Should Know Before You Buy

By Lydia Noyes

Updated on: Apr 10, 2020

Genucel is a brand of anti-aging skincare products that will purportedly target wrinkles near the eyes and jawline. These products are sold in sets that are designed to target multiple problems at once to give you your best-looking skin, regardless of age.

The line is owned by Chamonix, an anti-aging skincare brand that bases its products on the power of antioxidants for helping your skin stand up to damage due to environmental factors.

The company claims that each product is free of mineral oil, petroleum, and preservatives or coloring agents that could harm your skin.

Will Genucel help you improve your complexion, or are these products a waste of time and money? Our analysis will help you determine the right choice is for you.

What Are the Benefits of Eyeseryl?

Eyeseryl is one of the key ingredients in Genucel products. It is a compound made by Lipotec that is also known as acetyl tetrapeptide-5 that purportedly helps with undereye puffiness and dark circles by preventing a loss of elasticity in the thin skin around the eyes.

Genucel claims to combine a 2% concentration of this compound with ‘natural plant extracts’ to improve skin health and reduce visible wrinkles.

We couldn’t find any clinical evidence that shows its effectiveness. However, a self-reported study from Genucel shows that 95% of users saw improvements in their skin within 15 days of use.

Genucel Product Line

Genucel sells a range of anti-aging products designed to reduce the signs of wrinkles around your eyes and jaw. Here’s a summary of what’s available:

Analysis of Key Ingredients

There are a lot of ingredients in Genucel products. Below is our analysis of the key ingredients:

Apple Stem Cell: Plant stem cells are becoming a common addition to skincare products because they will purported help with cell regeneration to restore aging skin. The research into their benefits is still ongoing, but it seems promising from an anti-aging perspective.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice: The juice from the aloe plant is common in both food and cosmetic products, as it nourishes the skin and is a natural supply of antioxidants. There are some toxicity concerns associated with consuming too much, but no risks are associated with its topical use.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: Derived from coconut fat, this compound is added to cosmetics for its moisturizing properties and antioxidant content. It’s considered safe for topical use.

Gynostemma pentaphyllum: This Asian plant also goes by jiaogulan and is nicknamed “southern ginseng” for its healing properties. Though it’s often used as a medicine for lifestyle diseases like cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity, there’s little evidence that it offers any benefit in skincare products.

Sodium Hyaluronate: More commonly known as hyaluronic acid, this compound is often injected into the skin to stimulate collagen production and decrease wrinkles. However, the evidence is mixed whether it will work when applied topically, as the molecules are considered too large to penetrate the skin.

Overall, these compounds do show some clinical evidence for fighting wrinkles and keeping your skin healthy. However, the two most toted ingredients—apple stem cells and sodium hyaluronate—might not be the skin miracle you’d like them to be. Early evidence for plant stem cells looks promising, but too little is known right now to draw conclusions.

Likewise, sodium hyaluronate seems to work best when it’s injected into the skin. Paying for the ingredient in your cosmetics might be a waste, and any improvements you do notice will be temporary.

Analysis of Customer Reviews

More than 50 customers have left reviews for Genucel on our site, and they average 1.7 stars. In addition, there are approximately 2,200 reviews on Trustpilot, for the combined average of 4 stars.

Here are key takeaways from these reviewers:

Common Compliments:

  • Beauty products lead to noticeable differences for many users
  • Some products worked better than others
  • Great customer service

Common Complaints:

  • Autoship program led to confusion and extra charges
  • Products lead to unpleasant side effects like facial twitching, burning eyes, and difficultly swallowing
  • Too expensive for minimal benefits
  • Difficult to receive refunds
  • Product regimen is difficult to follow
  • Challenging to order just one product instead of a package deal

The Bottom Line: Is Genucel Worth It?

Genucel products claim to remove your wrinkles so that your skin looks years younger. There’s a good chance that these cosmetics will succeed in moisturizing your skin, but there’s little reason to believe that they will improve it beyond what other products can deliver.

One significant negative for this company is its purchasing plan and auto-ship program. You can’t purchase products individually and instead must commit to tailored kits.

Likewise, each purchase will automatically sign you up for an auto-ship program that will continue to bill you monthly until you choose to cancel.

This was a primary complaint of many Genucel customers and something you need to be aware of.

Overall, Genucel doesn’t seem to offer much to differentiate itself from other anti-aging brands. Buy these products if they appeal to you, but keep in mind that there are plenty of alternatives available.

How to get rid of eye bags

By Knilja , Vancouver Washington

Eye bags are caused by deposits of fat and water under the skin. Eating salty and processed food can make them swell up. Lack of sleep too. Sleeping on your face. And being over weight. Thin people have them too. They can be hereditary. You can have them surgically removed but the fatty deposits will return over time.

In other words there's no quick fix including this over priced product

Save your money

By R O , California

The only way to get rid of the bags under your eyes is to have the fat removed through surgery. A cream, including this one, will never do what it claims to do. Be smart. Don't get suckered into spending your money on products that don't work.

Moisturizer caused skin peel

By William McClendon , Washington

This moisturizer caused severe peeling of skin of a woman with a near flawless skin. The ad said you could use the entire product and return with no questions asked for full refund. Not true. 240 dollars was wasted on this fraud. Liars, scam.

Still suffering the backlash from ordering this product!

By Katie , Chattanooga, TN

I bought this product and tried it for the guaranteed 30 days, and saw zero benefit. when I called to get a return, the saleswoman said that the commercials were just a little too optimistic about how long it actually takes (the claim was that you would see slight improvement within 12 hours, and definite results by 30 days), but assured me it worked well if given a little more time, and talked me into extending the guarantee for two more weeks.

At the end of the two weeks, when I still saw no improvement, they conceded defeat and returned my money. But much to my incredulity, I began getting endless telemarketing calls trying to sell it as well as other products to me again! I told several of their reps that considering I didn't get any benefit from it the first time that I had no interest in a second try! They each promised to take me off their call list, yet I'm still getting calls from them.

Horrible Skincare Scam

By Clair , Santa Ana, CA

I had the worst skin reaction to the Genucel product. I do not have sensitive skin nor allergies. My whole face swelled up and I ended with red spots. When I called about getting a refund they DID NOT honor the 'Money Back Guarantee.' I could only get store credit after I pay for shipping and 9% of the cost of the product. What?! The customer service woman was rude and aggressive. If you use a promo code they sign you up for 'Preferred Customer' program which means if you do not like the product or have a skin reaction you CANNOT return it, period. Since I was stuck with it I did use the neck cream and face cream for three months as directed and did not notice any difference. I do not mind spending money on skincare products but it is just not worth the hassle, especially if it does not work.

Doesn't work for me

By Clair , Santa Ana, CA

I have a strict skin care regime both at day and night. I do not mind paying more for quality but Jim is right, this is a scam. I used the Esotique-RF and the neck cream as directed but they do not work! Chamonix will not refund you unless you meet their very narrow criteria. It is not worth the money wasted. I now use Lancome and Clarisonic products which are way safer.

This Ranks Right Up There with Nigerian Email Scammers

By Frank Sonye , Anaheim, California

12 hours? I did 12 weeks and nothing happened. Ask yourself this: If this product is so great, why do they need to auto bill you and force you to have to cancel? Wouldn't this stuff be flying off the shelf due to the demand?

It was a complete hassle just to cancel. I wasn't looking for a refund, I just wanted to be sure their auto-shipping scam wasn't going to charge my credit card again. Luckily, I used a card that was about to expire when I made the purchase.

When I called to cancel, they told me a rep would call me back. I called during business hours mind you. I told the phone rep that a callback was unacceptable; that I wanted it canceled NOW. She gave me some company line about how only the Customer Service Department could help me. My response: "I bet if I were calling to PLACE an order I wouldn't have to wait for a callback." Despite my logic, I lost the battle.

I received a callback the following day (naturally I was at work). The lady on the phone was rude and took her sweet time. I finally got a confirmation number finalizing my cancellation.

The biggest disappointment of all however, is the caliber of radio personalities who are endorsing this crap. Sean Hannity, Bill Carroll and most hosts on KFI 640 in Los Angeles are peddling this fraud. They've lost most if not all of my respect.

Worst Wrinkle Cream!

By Melissa , Minneaplis, MN

This product is the biggest rip off I've ever encountered. They say you get your money back, but they charge shipping + 9% fee to get your refund. A total SCAM. I've gotten better wrinkle creams at the local dollar store!

Genucel is a scam

By Robby Davis , Baytown, Texas

Per the official website of Genucel the customer should see results of using the stem cell therapy on their puffy eyes in at least 12 hours. I purchased this product in February 2015 for my wife. She has used it for 45 days straight and has yet to see any difference in the bags and puffiness of her eyes. She even discussed this product with our dermatologist and he said don't get suckered into using this product because it does not work.

Then to add insult to injury, I receive another order from them with another charge to my credit card. I have called to have that order shipped back and my credit card refunded, but their company policy states that all auto-order shipments are not refundable. I talked to the customer service rep and their supervisor and they both stated the company policy. The company does not have any inkling of customer focus or customer satisfaction. You can have credit for other products, but I do not want to do business with a company whose products don't work or who cares less about their customers except to get their money. I would NOT recommend their products and will tell everyone I know about our experience.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
