About Go Away Gray

Touted as “a unique and effective way to finally cure gray hair for good,” Go Away Gray claims to be an all-natural, made in the U.S.A. product that has the potential to bring back your original hair color. According to the company, you can start seeing results in as little as 4-8 weeks, and be on your way to looking years younger.

Go Away Gray has been featured on ABC, CBS, BBC, and more, and is manufactured by Rise-N-Shine, LLC, which has been selling various “flavor of the day” supplements since 2006. However, the company holds a B+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, which is based on just one complaint in three years. Regarding Go Away Gray specifically, online reviews appear to be primarily negative, with the most common complaint that the product did not work as advertised.

How Go Away Gray Works

The Go Away Gray website references this scientific study when it claims that our hair turns gray because of a special enzyme within our bodies—called catalase—that stops working properly, and allows hydrogen peroxide to build up within our follicles. Ultimately, this hydrogen peroxide builds to a point where it prevents melanin (e.g. your natural coloring) from entering.

Go Away Gray, on the other hand, works to prevent this from occurring by balancing the catalase enzyme and hydrogen peroxide levels in your hair. As a result, hydrogen peroxide won’t be able to accumulate and “bleach” your hair, and you’ll benefit in the following ways:

  • Prevent future gray hair, and reverse your existing gray hair
  • Gain thicker, healthier hair
  • Look “years younger”

To accomplish this, Go Away Gray products claim to include “potent antioxidant enzyme catalase, vitamins, and essential amino acids” (full ingredient list can be found here) in three different versions:

  1. Capsules
  2. Shampoo
  3. Conditioner

Bottom Line: Is Go Away Gray a Scam?

With all this information about the product, what’s the bottom line? Is Go Away Gray a scam?

While we certainly don’t think the company is selling a product they know to be ineffective, the biggest concern we have is that the science they use to support their claims rests on very shaky ground. In fact, according to this article, “There's been no credible research to validate their claim. What they're claiming is very hypothetical.” In addition, the article also goes on to say “there is no proof whatsoever" that catalase ingested orally can survive the gastrointestinal process and affect the hair follicle. For those wishing to give it a shot, it would be cheaper to eat a bowl of catalase-rich blueberries, blackberries or radishes.”

As always, if you’re thinking about taking Go Away Gray (or any other nutritional supplement), be sure to thoroughly consult with your physician beforehand.
