About Grass Shot
By attaching directly to your garden hose, the Grass Shot system claims to make seeding and fertilizing your lawn as easy as watering it, without having to worry about wasting time or spending money on professional landscapers.
In order to accomplish this, the company claims you simply have to attach the Grass Shot container to your hose and turn it on. Once this occurs, Grass Shot’s special jet nozzle is claimed to mix the seeds inside with the fertilizer and hydromulch foam, which sprays on thick to make sure the seeds remain in place.
Because of its ease of use, Grass Shot claims to be ideal for high traffic areas, pet spots, or shady areas around tress. Regardless of where it’s needed, Grass Shot is claimed to be the “instant, fast, and easy way to a beautiful lawn.”
When it comes down to it though, is this really what you can expect from the Grass Shot, or will it just leave you disappointed and your lawn wilted? Consider the following:
What is Hydroseeding?
From a commercial perspective, hydroseeding is “a planting process that uses a slurry of seed and mulch. The slurry is transported in a tank, either truck- or trailer-mounted and sprayed over prepared ground. Hydroseeding will typically cost less than planting with sod, but more than broadcast seeding. Results are often quick with high germination rates producing grass growth in about a week.”
With this in mind, Grass Shot’s manufacturer has taken the same basic principles behind commercial hydroseeding and scaled it down for at-home residential applications. But the pressing question is: does it work?
Does Home Hydroseeding Work?
Hydroseeding obviously works from a large-scale commercial perspective, but is it ideal for smaller, non-professional applications?
As it turns out, this is a more difficult question to answer than it might originally seem. Why? Because other than small “kits” such as Grass Shot and Hydro Mousse Liquid Lawn (we’ll talk more about this in a moment), there really weren’t any other at-home hydroseeding options available.
So, to better answer this question, let’s take a look at what customers are saying.
Are There Any Customers Reviews for Grass Shot?
At the time of our research, there were 11 Amazon customer reviews for Grass Shot, who had given the product an average rating of just 2 stars, based primarily on complaints of failure to work as advertised (or at all) and poor quality.
Similarly, there were also 6 Grass Shot customer reviews on Bright Reviews, who rated the product an average of 1.5 stars, with common complaints mirroring those found on Amazon.
From a company perspective, Grass Shot is manufactured by Telebrands, one of the top companies within the “As Seen on TV” industry who makes dozens of popular ASOTV products, including Hurricane 360 Spin Mop, Ankle Genie, and Grassology.
Based on more than 375 HighYa reader reviews for these products, they had an average rating of 1.5 stars, with common complaints citing failure to work, poor quality, and poor customer service experiences.
Grass Shot vs. Hydro Mousse Liquid Lawn
It’s important to note that Grass Shot appears to be a slightly different version of Hydro Mousse Liquid Lawn, which only had a 1.5-star rating here on HighYa (as of 6/11/15). This is primarily due to complaints that:
- The seed/foam mixture doesn’t always come out as it should.
- The foam has a tendency to spray out all at once, leaving you with a bottle full of seeds and not much else.
- The seeds it contains can be purchased locally for much less money.
- Failure to experience growth.
- The “mousse” will stain hands, clothing, and even pets!
Granted, this doesn’t mean you’ll experience the same with Grass Shot since they’re made by 2 different manufacturers, but due to the fact that their designs and claims are nearly identical, it might be something worth keeping in mind.
Grass Shot Pricing & Refund Policy
One bottle of Grass Shot (enough to cover about 350sqft) is priced at $19.99 plus $7.99 S&H. However, you’ll also be able to purchase a second bottle for an additional $12.99 S&H.
If you choose this second option, you’ll also be able to order a 25ft, 50ft, 75ft, or 100ft Pocket Hose (be sure to read online reviews before choosing this option).
All Grass Shot orders come with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges. This means that if you take advantage of the “special” offer, you could more much more in S&H charges than you ultimately receive as a refund.
With this said, in order to request a refund, you’ll need to contact customer service at 844-863-0163.
Can Grass Shot Give You a Greener Lawn?
Chopping to the point: Considering Grass Shot’s relatively low online reputation with customers, as well as some performance concerns due to its close similarity with other at-home hydroseeding systems, we might recommend saving your money on Grass Shot and visiting your local gardening center for some tips on how to get rid of dead spots in your lawn.

Grass Shot is not worth $1, I would have gave up it -5 stars if I could. I followed directions by filling the bottle with seed to the half-inch line & half bottle green liquid out lid on & filled with water shook it until it became well mixed. I turned on sprayer but no green foam or green came out l, I even shook it as I was spraying. Some seed came out and barely covered a three by five foot area (16 square feet). Grass shot is a joke.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Don't wast your money
They said it would cover 350 sq. ft. Ran out fast and still had to cover seed with a rake. No green mulch to hold it in place. Nothing like it shows on TV. You can buy a bag of seed and spread with your hand and do as good a job.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
