What Is Hurricane Spin Scrubber?

Using a built-in rechargeable battery that spins the head at 300 RPM, the Hurricane Spin Scrubber promises to rinse, clean, and leave your shower spotless in less than 30 seconds. We’re also told that the “incredible” torque it delivers can cut through any caked-on dirt and grime.

Attached to Hurricane Spin Scrubber’s head are three interchangeable brushes, each of which the company claims feature flexible bristles that mold into cracks and crevices. This way, the company tells us you’ll be able to attack soap scum, mildew, and more, in tracks and corners.

On top of this, Hurricane Spin Scrubber features an extension arm that can help those with arthritis clean hard-to-reach areas. It can even be used outdoors!

Who doesn’t want to restore the luster and shine of the shower, faster, easier, and without harsh chemicals? And perhaps most importantly, without scrubbing or rubbing?

But will Hurricane Spin Scrubber really “do the hard work for you,” or will you end up disappointed? Before you hand over your credit card information, that’s exactly what we’ll help you figure out here.

Hurricane Spin Scrubber vs. Turbo Scrub

The HighYa team has been reviewing ASOTV products for years, and one thing we’ve learned is that it’s fairly common for these companies to “share” products.

In other words, we’ll often see a product appear from one company, only for its website to be pulled and reappear weeks (or months) later, sold by a completely different manufacturer.

What’s the point? A few months ago, we reviewed a nearly identical product named Turbo Scrub, which—except for the blue accents on Hurricane Spin Scrubber—appears to be the identical product.

One HighYa reader had given Turbo Scrub a 5-star rating at the time of our research, claiming that the motor turns fast, it operates quietly, and is effective for addressing grout and other hard-to-reach areas.

Outside of this, if you search online for “powered shower scrubber,” you’ll quickly learn that there are other functionally identical products like Quickie Tub N’ Tile Power Scrubber (which appears to be the original).

This also appears to come with mostly positive online customer feedback, with many claiming that it cleans several different surfaces well and features quality construction.

Several customers noted that Turbo Scrub was heavy, though, that it didn’t clean as well as expected, and that it didn’t come with multiple brush heads. At least from this perspective, Hurricane Spin Scrubber seems to have a leg up.

If you’re willing to venture outside this design, you’ll find even more products that could feasibly deliver the same cleaning power (even power drill attachments!), but might not always improve reach.

What’s the point? Hurricane Spin Scrubber is not a unique product. But will it deliver superior performance?

We’ll get to that in a second, but first, let’s find out how much you’ll pay.

How Much Does Hurricane Spin Scrubber Cost?

One Hurricane Spin Scrubber set will cost you $39.99, plus free shipping and handling. This includes:

  • 1 Hurricane Spin Scrubber Brush
  • 1 Extension Arm
  • 1 Set of Scrubbing Heads
  • 1 Mesh Storage Bag

During checkout, you’ll be able to purchase a second set for an added $19.99 fee.

Hurricane Spin Scrubber is brought to you by the same company who makes Hurricane 360 Spin Mop and Hurricane Twin Spin Mop (Telebrands), who provides a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges, on most of their products. In order to request one, you’ll need to call customer service at 855-668-1655.

Now, let’s get back to examining Hurricane Spin Scrubber’s performance potential.

What Is Hurricane Spin Scrubber Designed to Clean?

That cloudy film covering your shower (informally known as soap scum) is the result of calcium and magnesium in water reacting with the fatty acids in soap. Not only does it look unsightly, but by creating a prime breeding ground for bacteria, soap scum can even pose a health hazard in some instances.

Now, soap scum isn’t exactly a new problem, so there have been thousands of different home remedies and products to remove it over the years, including baking soda and vinegar solutions, borax, ammonia, pumice stones, dryer sheets, and much more.

How Does Hurricane Spin Scrubber Stack Up?

While these options rely mostly on chemistry to remove soap scum, mechanical devices like Hurricane Spin Scrubber work like brushes to physically scrape soap scum from a surface. To do this, they rely on two things: 1) speed and 2) power.

While we’re told Hurricane Spin Scrubber’s head spins at 300RPM, we’re not told much about its torque, or the power at which it spins. Why is this important?

If Spin Scrubber’s head delivers too little torque, pressing it against surfaces (such as tile or glass) with enough force to remove soap scum might cause it to slow down.

If this occurs, then the fact that Hurricane Scrubber’s head (or any other competing product) spins at 300 RPM won’t mean much as far as real world benefits.

The good news is that we tried out the Hurricane Spin Scrubber in multiple scenarios to see just how closely it matches the manufacturer’s claims.

Our Hurricane Spin Scrubber Hands-On Test

We had the opportunity to perform some in-depth testing the Hurricane Spin Scrubber. Did it live up to the manufacturer’s claims? Here’s the video:

Cleaning a Stand Up Shower With Hurricane Spin Scrubber

After some quick and easy assembly and spraying the shower with a mild cleaner, we found that Hurricane Spin Scrubber’s extension handle really did help us improve reach and scrub the floor without bending down.

While we didn’t have to press down very hard on the Hurricane Spin Scrubber to get it to clean, we quickly learned that because of the head’s spinning motion, it had a tendency to pull to the right when in use.

In order to maintain control, we found we often had to grip tightly; at times, even holding the device with both hands.

After we were finished, Hurricane Spin Scrubber seemed to have cleaned well while the floor was still wet. Once the floor dried for 24 hours, however, we found numerous spots that the scrubber didn’t adequately clean.

Next, we used the corner brush on the shower’s ledge and door rails. It did a great job of working its way into corners, but like the flat head, it was difficult to keep it stable without slipping from side to side.

We then used the dome brush on the same area, which seemed to do a better job than the corner brush at getting rid of mildew.

Finally, Hurricane Spin Scrubber’s flat brush delivered a big improvement in soap scum and mildew after just a few minutes scrubbing the glass shower door.

Overall, we thought Hurricane Spin Scrubber did an OK job on the stand up shower, but to get stains out of the grout, we’d likely need to use a stronger cleaning agent.

What About Cleaning a Dirty Bathtub?

After spraying some mild cleaner on the wall of a shower that had seen better days, we used the dome brush on the tile wall, the corner brush for corners and grout, and the flat brush on the floor.

After spending nearly an hour cleaning the tub, we though Hurricane Spin Scrubber did a decent job of removing soap scum and mildew. However, this required quite a bit of time concentrating on each individual area to ensure everything was clean.

We spent so much time cleaning the shower, in fact, that Hurricane Spin Scrubber’s battery died, although we would have probably needed another 30 minutes to fully clean (without using stronger cleaning chemicals).

Cleaning a Sink Faucet

For our final test, we used the corner brush head on a standard sink faucet. As with our other tests, we often found it difficult to keep it stable and in place. We also learned that the head was too big to get into all the small crevices.

In the end, we didn’t find that Hurricane Spin Scrubber cleaned the faucet any better or easier than by hand.

Our Bottom Line Regarding the Hurricane Spin Scrubber

After finishing, Hurricane Spin Scrubber was easy to clean; simply run under water to rinse and allow time to dry.

Throughout the process, we found that the device really can make cleaning bathtubs and showers easier, and in some instances, faster. It can also make the process physically easier since you won’t have to bend down as often.

It seems to do a fairly good job of cleaning up everyday spots and stains, although it almost certainly won’t be as effective without using cleaning agents or chemicals.

While Hurricane Spin Scrubber seemed to clean well, it’s worth noting that we had to spend quite a bit of time focusing on each area in order to remove all the mildew and soap scum buildup. In short, don’t expect this buildup to miraculously disappear, or you might end up disappointed.

The Hurricane Spin Scrubber is also a bit heavy and takes a lot of effort to keep it in place, so we’re not sure how ideal it would work for someone who suffers from arthritis.

Lastly, keep in mind that it took about 20 hours to charge the first time and 8 hours to fully charge every time thereafter, while power only lasts about an hour.

Hurricane Spin Scrubber Reviews

Since writing our original review, seven HighYa readers provided feedback about Hurricane Spin Scrubber, giving it an average rating of 1.7 stars. We’ve found that this is fairly common among all As Seen on TV products.

While one customer claimed to have had a positive experience, several others claimed to have experienced extensive shipping delays and unresponsive customer service.

Despite these complaints, AJ Khubani’s Telebrands is the largest company in the ASOTV industry, having been in business for more than three decades. In addition to the other Hurricane models mentioned earlier, the company is responsible for recent runaway hits like Red Copper Pan, Atomic Beam USA, Ped Egg Power, and many others.

We’re definitely not saying you’ll experience the same, although HighYa readers have given these products (and all ASOTV products in general, regardless of the manufacturer) an average rating of 2 stars. Why? From a product perspective, the most common complaints typically revolve around lower quality than expected and not working as advertised.

Other common complaints often revolve around business practices, such as long shipping times and difficulty processing refunds.

Again, this doesn’t mean you’ll experience the same. We’re simply providing you with a complete view of the information.

Will Hurricane Spin Scrubber Help You Win the Battle Against Dirt & Grime?

Can Hurricane Spin Scrubber help you get your shower clean? As with any kind of friction between two surfaces, it’s hard to imagine that it won’t help remove at least some dirt and grime in your shower. Will it make it easier? With its extension arm, this also seems possible.

Perhaps most importantly, though, will Hurricane Spin Mop help make that inevitable soap scum a thing of the past?

In general, it appears that chemical reactions often provide the best results at removing soap scum. Sure, you can definitely get rid of it with enough time and elbow grease, but liquid solutions (even homemade ones) might deliver better results with less effort. What does this mean for you?

Based on our testing, Hurricane Spin Scrubber’s extension wand and rotating head really do seem to make it easier to remove soap scum buildup from bathtubs and showers.

It’s not perfect, though, since it’s heavy and can take a lot of concentration and effort to keep the head in one place long enough to adequately clean.

Given this, we’re not sure we’d recommend it for those with arthritis or other types of joint pain.

The good news is that if you feel like rolling the dice on Hurricane Spin Scrubber, it comes with free S&H and the company seems to stand behind it with a 30-day refund policy. Just be sure to hang onto your original box, since it probably won’t be cheap to send it back to the manufacturer.

    Sorry Scrubber

I was sucked in by the commercial again!

I thought it would be great, no heavy scrubbing, no harsh chemicals, but it did "nothing." I was so disappointed. I had to use two hands to control it, and it still danced over the shower screen and floor.

After the first use, I noticed all the bristles were squashed like an old toothbrush! Even after using some detergent with it, it still didn't clean.

The saddest thing is I have two, and I wouldn't give the other one to an enemy.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Working on number four

I purchased it from Bed Bath & Beyond.

I brought the original one home, and charge light would not come on. I returned to Bed Bath & Beyond. With the second one, the charge light came on, charged for 22 hours, but would not run. Again I returned it to Bed Bath & Beyond. With the third one, the charge light would not come on again, so I returned to Bed Bath & Beyond as well.

I have the fourth on charge and hopefully, it will charge because my patience is running thin. Bed Bath & Beyond has been wonderful, but I think even Bed Bath & Beyond is a little wary of this scrubber.

    Hurricane Spin Scrubber

I have been charging this device for two days now and it still can't charge.

It is rubbish. Therefore, I cannot comment if the rubbish piece of equipment is a good or bad cleaning tool. I paid for this rubbish, and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

I've been trying to charge it for days now, and it will not charge. It does not clean either. I wasted $40.

    Very disappointed!

I too was excited to try the new Hurricane Spin Scrubber, and quickly became very disappointed. It required two hands to keep it steady. If you put too much pressure on it, it would stop spinning, and if there wasn't enough water it didn't seem to clean. I tried it once and thought it might be my cleaner, so I bought some Soft Scrub with Bleach (which I love by the way!). After making sure the areas were wet, and there was additional water to use, I put the Soft Scrub on the shower walls and hand to fit with the Scrubber to clean them!

I finally gave up, got my trusty towel and scrubbed them myself. What a waste of $40! I wish I had done more research before buying this!

      Louise Almer

I found the same thing, and I needed two hands to control it. After one use, the bristles got ruined. I was so disappointed and saddened that I still had to use a strong detergent and chemicals to actually clean. I would not recommend anyone to buy it!

    Very poorly made product

    • Boynton Beach, FL,
    • May 2, 2017

The Spin Scrubber is unable to hold a charge longer than a minute. It stops because it's very cheap. I would not recommend this product. How the TV commercial kept it running is beyond me.

Spin Scrubber is a great idea, but...

    • Chattanooga, TN,
    • Apr 25, 2017

I could not wait to try this product because of its advertisement. Who wouldn't want to clean hard to reach grimy places with a long handled brush (the longer the better)>? So today I tried it but was very disappointed. If you press hard enough on the brush to get the scum or dirt off, or to just keep the brush from jumping around, it stops. The bristles are too slick and hard to clean anything, even if you could get them to keep going. I finished up my job with the old trusty toothbrush.

    Not as advertised

This unit doesn't work any better than a mop as far as scrubbing. You cannot apply any pressure or the brush stops turning or slows down. The only positive thing I can say about it is that with the extended length you don't have to break your back, but as far as scrubbing a shower or tub in 30 seconds, that is not true.

    Piece of junk

    • Connecticut,
    • Apr 18, 2017

This is not as advertised. The first time I used it, the connection continually came apart and I had to hold with two hands. When I went to use it the second time, the bristles started falling out of the brush heads; all of them, not just one. Unbelievable! And I had washed and dried the brushes before putting it away.

I would never recommend this product to anyone. A piece of junk.

    Met my expectations

    • Iowa,
    • Apr 14, 2017

I bought this scrub brush at a box store, so I didn't have to deal with shipping costs. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because I have had no problem charging or changing the heads. This item is not meant for deep cleaning (yes the commercials exaggerate), but it does a great job for regular routine cleaning jobs.

I recommended this item to my sister, and she has had no issues with hers either. I would recommend buying in store as it is a lot easier to return if need be.

I purchased it in December, received it three weeks later, it worked for two months, and then stopped charging. This happened to both units. Stay away.

    It broke with first use

    • West Chester, PA,
    • Apr 1, 2017

So last Sunday I purchased one of the Hurricane Spin Scrubber at a big box store. I took it home and attached one of the heads to the wand. I tried to remove the head from the wand and the assembly which holds the head/spins came apart and got stuck to the head (this is without even plugging it in to charge it). I returned it and got a replacement.

I tried charging it for the 20 hours yesterday. This morning, I attached a head and tried it out in the shower. When I went to change heads, the same problem as last week. The head assembly came apart and got stuck in the head itself. I let the head dry, packed up the pieces and just got back from returning the second purchase. I am NOT going to try it for the third time.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
