About HurryCane

Established in 2011 and based in Minneapolis, MN, HurryCane is an “all-terrain cane” that uses proprietary StabilStep™ technology, along with a one-of-a-kind pivoting base, to help users increase their mobility. This allows the HurryCane to always maintain three contact points with the ground, regardless of angle.

HurryCane claims they have produced the first major change in cane technology in more than 2,000 years, primarily by mimicking joint movement in the human body. Because of this, the company is listed with the FDA, and recently received an “ease of use” award from the Arthritis Foundation.

How Does the HurryCane Work? What Are the Benefits?

Did you know that the ankle is the most complex joint in the human body? According to HurryCane, this complexity comes from the fact that our ankles are built to pivot in all directions—forward and backward, and side-to-side—which helps us to maximize stability and traction, regardless of surface type or angle. In addition, the human foot contains three points of contact with the ground, which adds further support. Ultimately, it is these features that the makers of HurryCane reproduced through their StabilStep™ technology.

According to the company, HurryCane’s StabilStep design provides users, up to 250 pounds in weight, with great support on a wide variety of surfaces, including sand, gravel, and snow, thanks to the three strong, supportive feet that feature textured, non-skid grooves. In addition, the HurryCane is capable of standing on its own, freeing up users to temporarily leave their cane in one spot while picking up something from a shelf (at the grocery store or pharmacy, for instance). However, it should be noted that some users have complained that this feature only works on flat, non-carpeted surfaces.

Overall, the HurryCane’s light weight and fold-ability help to increase portability, as well as the ability to store it almost anywhere while traveling.

The HurryCane Pricing

HurryCane’s regular pricing is $49.95, which includes the cane, wrist strap, and travel bag, though at the time of this writing, it is being offered for $39.95, including free shipping. If you’re on the fence regarding whether or not the HurryCane is right for you, they offer a 60-day money back guarantee on all orders, minus shipping and handling.

Pros

  • Maximum support through engineering that mimics the dexterity of the human ankle and the multiple contact points of the feet.

  • Features height adjustment for comfortable use by a wide variety of people.
  • Comes with free shipping and a 60-day money back guarantee.

Cons

  • Primary complaint appears to be that the HurryCane does not stand on its own as advertised, unless it is resting on a flat, even, non-carpeted surface.
  • Some consumers have complained that the product feels cheaper and less stable than advertised.
  • There have been numerous reports of the rubber points, which are located at the bottom of the base, repeatedly falling off.

The three supports on the bottom of the cane fall off. Apparently HurryCane knew this because when I was foolish enough to purchase one, they badgered me to buy additional supports. After getting the cane, I know why. Mine has no supports left on it. They all fell off before having it a year. And it absolutely does not stand alone easily. Before losing all the supports, you had to make sure it was balanced on a hard surface before releasing the handle or else it would fall over. Overpriced and does not work as advertised.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Love it and do recommend

I had two total knee replacements within three months in 2013. My mother in law got me a HurryCane and I also had a standard one but ended up using the HurryCane exclusively. Due to its flexibility it felt much more natural. As others noted it does only stand alone on smooth surfaces, but that was fine for me. I especially liked that I could fold it up and carry in a bag once I had healed some, so I used to take it with me just in case I got tired or needed it for balancing problems.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A Step Up for my mum.

I sent this to my elderly mother in the UK where the HurryCane is not available, along with some replacement feet for when needed. As for the cane itself, she loves it. She said it was easy to put together, it gives her greater stability on uneven ground and is convenient to use in the grocery store etc. It stands alone if she needs two hands to select from shelves. She is asked frequently about her cane and others have wanted to hold it and try it out for themselves. Definitely a step up from the traditional walking cane for my mum.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
