The product’s website shows that Insomniar utilizes 11 different ingredients in its formula; L-ornithine, valerian root, chamomile, passionflower, lemon balm, hops, taurine, magnolia bark, jujube extract, reishi mushrooms, and melatonin.

To start with, valerian root shows promise for treating insomnia, but according to WebMD, it may take four or more weeks of consecutive usage before a difference can be recognized. Additionally, they state that some studies have shown the supplement to be no more effective than a sugar pill, or that it provides a placebo effect.

When taken in combination with valerian root, hops do appear help some people fall asleep faster, though it is reported to take 28 days of treatment to see results. Lemon balm is also indicated to be potentially effective for sleep.

To boot, we learned from these sites that valerian root, hops, and lemon balm are classified as possibly effective for reducing anxiety symptoms. In each of these instances, though, no dosing details were provided on the Insomniar website, so it’s unclear how much you might need to take to experience these benefits.

Finally, we get to melatonin, which is an extremely popular substance that has a reputation for helping individuals fall asleep. But according to WebMD, the available clinical evidence indicates that, when it comes to primary insomnia (not related to a medical or environmental cause), it only shortens the amount of time it takes to fall asleep by about 12 minutes.

Examine.com recommended a dosage range of 500mcg (0.5mg) to 5mg of melatonin for ease of sleep. Between 3mg and 10mg has also been shown to reduce pre-surgery anxiety in some instances. Insomniar includes 6mg of melatonin.

However, neither they nor magnolia bark, jujube extract, or reishi mushrooms were listed as having sufficient evidence for addressing insomnia or other sleep-related conditions.

As is to be expected with a formula of 11 different ingredients, various authoritative outlets like WebMD and Examine.com report a wide variety of potential side effects for the bulk of the ingredients used in Insomniar. Some of these include headaches, dizziness, confusion, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and itchiness, although no specifics were provided as to what conditions might increase their likelihood of occurring.

With the exception of jujube extract, all of Insomniar’s ingredients are listed as being likely safe for use in the short term; jujube is listed as not having enough clinical data to determine the potential risks of using the ingredient supplementarily.
