About K9 Dentist

By providing you with everything you need to give your dog a veterinary-quality cleaning at a fraction of the price, K9 Dentist claims to help your dog fight tarter and keep them healthy, all while saving you money. Although K9 Dentist claims to be easy to use, it’s also claimed to be effective at improving your dog’s oral health and to be recommended by doctors.

While it may be true that professional cleanings can cost $500 or more, and that dental treats don’t reach all areas of the teeth and may even cause digestive upset, is there a good amount of value in K9 Dentist? In other words, even if it is simple to use and works in just minutes, is it worth the price, or is does it just seem like a good idea but in reality will cause you and your dog frustration? Keep reading to find out.

How Does K9 Dentist Claim to Work?

Developed by a dentist to help fight tartar build up, K9 Dentist is claimed to help remove tartar from your dog’s teeth and to promote fresh breath, which also protects their health by helping to prevent swollen gums and tooth loss, as well as heart, lung, kidney, and liver disease.

With this in mind, K9 Dentist claims to work over 2 steps:

  1. Place the Comfort Block in your dog’s mouth. You’ll need to measure the block beforehand and cut it to fit using scissors. Then, strap the block around your dog’s snout so that it will remain in place during the cleaning process.
  2. Begin brushing to massage the gums and remove plaque.

K9 Dentist Pricing & Refund Policy

The complete K9 Dentist system is priced at $19.99, plus $7.95 shipping and handling. You can also order a second K9 Dentist system by paying an additional $7.95 S&H.

If you choose the double offer for a total of $35.89, you’ll receive the following:

  • 2 Double Ended Toothbrushes – Two different head sizes with quality nylon filaments that allow you to clean large teeth as well as hard to reach areas.
  • 2 Plaque Removers – Ideal for removing stubborn tartar deposits.
  • 2 Comfort Bite Blocks – A customizable device that keeps you dog’s mouth open while reducing stress, making the process as easy as possible (see more about this in the final section).
  • 2 Tubes of Toothpaste – Specially formulated for your dog’s needs.
  • 2 Pairs of Magnifying Glasses – Allows you to clean more easily and thoroughly.

K9 Dentist claims to come with a 30-day money back guarantee, less shipping and handling charges.

Important note: There were no additional refund details provided on the K9 Dentist website during our research, and the Customer Service link displayed a 555-555-5555 phone number, which is clearly fake. See the final section for more about what this means for you.

What’s the Deal with K9 Dentist? Does it Really Work?

We all love our dogs, but we’ve also cringed on at least occasion when they greet us in the morning with their “potent” breath. On top of this, we want our canine companions to remain healthy for as long as possible, so can K9 Dentist really help from both of these perspectives? Maybe, although you should consider the following before placing your order:

Customer Reviews

First and foremost, K9 Dentist is a very new product. In fact, its trademark was filed in February 2014 and its URL was registered in May. As such, there are no online customer reviews that can be used to gauge its effectiveness and overall level of satisfaction.

On top of this, K9 Dentist is an “As Seen on TV” product, which tend to have low customer satisfaction levels, with the most common complaints related to products that don’t work as well as advertised, poor quality construction, and poor customer service. We’re not saying this is necessarily the case with K9 Dentist, but it’s definitely a factor you should keep in mind.

Who is the Manufacturer?

With this in mind, we learned that the K9 Dentist website was created by Liquid Focus, a popular website creation company specializing in “As Seen on TV” products, although there isn’t any information available about the actual manufacturer. This is somewhat puzzling, as any company that stands behind their product should proudly display their information on their website.

Refund Policy & Contact Information

Another thing that raises a red flag is that, although K9 Dentist supposedly comes with a 30-day refund policy, there isn’t any information about this on the product’s website. On top of this, the contact information for the company is currently listed as 555-555-5555, so even if you did want to return your K9 Dentist, there currently isn’t any way to contact the company.

Also, based on the K9 Dentist Privacy policy, your email address will be passed along to “independent, third party advertisers that send e-mail announcements to our users about products or services which may be of interest to you.” In other words, you can expect to receive spam after placing your order.

S&H Charges

Like most “As Seen on TV” products, S&H charges for the K9 Dentist are non-refundable. If you choose the double offer, this means that you’ll immediately be out $15.98 before factoring in shipping costs to return the product to the manufacturer.

Ultimately, this means that you’ll likely lose more money than you’ll receive once your refund is processed.

Does Functionality Raise Issues for Safety Concerns?

Finally, we definitely have some questions about the functionality of K9 Dentist. This is because you’ll have to stick the Comfort Bite Block in your dog’s mouth and then tie a strap around their snout. Since most dogs are resistant to having their mouths forcefully shut and also having something around their snouts, this has a high probability of causing panic, which wouldn’t be conducive to cleaning teeth. In fact, most professional dog cleanings involve sedating your dog so that they don’t panic, so we’re not sure how well this at-home product will work when it comes down to it.

Bottom line:

Between the fact that K9 Dentist is a brand new product, no information is available about the company who manufactures it, and that no refund or contact information is available on the product’s website, you may want to wait until more customer reviews have accumulated before placing your order.

Pros:

  • Claims to help you achieve veterinary-quality teeth cleanings at home and to save you money.
  • Claims to help remove tartar from your dog’s teeth and to promote fresh breath, as well as to prevent heart, lung, kidney, and liver disease.
  • 30-day refund policy.

Cons:

  • K9 Dentist is an “As Seen on TV” product, which tend to have low customer satisfaction levels.
  • New product, so no online customer reviews as of the time of this writing.
  • No information about the company behind K9 Dentist, in addition to no refund or contact information provided on the product’s website.

    Misleading clean

    • Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada,
    • Sep 24, 2015

Ultimately your dog will will need to see the dentist (vet) as you won't be able to properly get under the gum line without anesthesia. This product gives you a false sense of security which could lead to unseen and untreated gum and tooth disease.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    A complete waste

    • New Jersey,
    • Aug 4, 2015

A waste wanted to return could not reach a person, instructions say to mail but to whom. Just a waste my dog would not let me put the thing on his mouth and then when I got it on he wouldn't stay still, when I finally gave up he just bit me.

    Traumatic. Don't waste your money.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

K9 Dentist works great on my dog

    • New York,
    • Aug 20, 2014

The device was easy to place on my dog. Once the bite block was in place, the dog was actually more calm and allowed me to brush her teeth very easily. I did use the tartar instrument to clean one or two areas where I saw brown looking tartar. I use it once a day to brush my dog's teeth and my dog lets me put it in her mouth without any struggle. This device is worth it for just the bite block alone. I used to struggle to keep my dog's mouth still while trying to brush, but no I don't have an issue

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
