About MateFit

MateFit claims to be a tea-based metabolism-boosting herbal supplement that can help you control your diet using a “powerful” mixture of holistic herbs, root powders, and spices, and to put you on the path to health. In addition, by delivering essential nutrients and phytochemicals, MateFit tea is also claimed to be “a modern antioxidant powerhouse.”

Tea has been consumed for thousands of years, whether for its taste or for some of its purported health benefits. But when it comes to MateFit, is this tea-based supplement an effective method of losing weight, or will it just drain your wallet?

How Does MateFit Claim to Work?

MateFit tea is a green tea-based supplement that includes EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate), which may help increase your body’s metabolism and fat burning potential, as well as to regulate sugar cravings, improve good cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure, improve digestive function, and more. In addition, MateFit also claims to be high in antioxidants, which can provide a range of health benefits by combating free radicals.

In order to accomplish this, MateFit is claimed to include natural, nutrient-rich, organic ingredients purchased from the best suppliers in the business. When it comes to their Teatox, Matefit’s most popular product, these ingredients include:

  • Dandelion Root
  • Peppermint Loose Leaf Tea
  • Rosemary Leaf
  • Senna Leaf
  • Cinnamon Powder
  • Black Pepper
  • Ginger Root
  • Hibiscus Flower Powder
  • Rhubarb Root Powder
  • Blessed Thistle Herb
  • Lemongrass Leaf
  • Grapefruit Peel

The MateFit website also features a diet plan, which includes weekly shopping lists, exercise programs, and more.

In order to begin using MateFit, the company recommends steeping the tea for 7-14 minutes, allowing to cool to a comfortable temperature, and then drinking.

For the Teatox products, MateFit recommends drinking 8oz of tea once every other night, preferably after dinner. For the Metabolic boost blend however, the company recommends drinking the tea once in the morning and once again in the afternoon, preferably before lunch. If you follow these guidelines, along with moderate physical activity and eating a balanced diet, MateFit claims that most users experience results within 5-7 days.

However, the product’s website claims that MateFit tea may trigger side effects, especially when mixed with other supplements or medications, so it’s important that you consult with your physician before beginning.

What Do Other Consumers Have to Say About MateFit?

Although it’s been promoted heavily through social media, MateFit tea appears to be a relatively new product, and most of the available online reviews are from independent bloggers who often receive free samples of products in exchange for reviews.

With this said, some of the most common compliments referenced that MateFit tastes pleasant and features high-quality ingredients. On the other hand, some of the most common complaints referenced failure to help with weight loss, difficulty finding the time to make the tea before breakfast and lunch (the portable shaker bottles can help with this), and high price.

Can MateFit Really Help You Lose Weight & Detox Your Body?

If you’re looking to keep your “summer body” all year long, can MateFit teas help you accomplish this, or is it all just one big sales pitch? Consider the following:

The Efficacy of Tea-Based Supplements

Most importantly, as we previously mentioned in our Fit Tea and Bootea reviews, the science showing that tea-based supplements can help you lose weight is lacking.

To back this up, according to WebMD, while green tea is one of the healthiest things you can drink and it has been shown to improve blood flow and lower cholesterol, “some evidence suggests that the active ingredient in green tea, EGCG, may help you drop a few pounds, [while] other studies show no effect.” In other words, there is no strong clinical evidence that green tea, or its active ingredient EGCG, can help you lose weight. However, the article does go on to mention, “But green tea is a smart swap for sugary drinks,” which really can help improve your health.

For more information about looking for clinical evidence during the purchasing process, be sure to read through our Complete Nutritional Supplements Buyer’s Guide.

The Only Proven Way to Lose Weight & Keep it Off

With this said, any nutritional supplement you purchase may help improve your weight loss in a minor way, but the only tried-and-true way to lose weight and keep it off is through a healthy diet and regular exercise. Unfortunately, there is no magic supplement that can help you avoid this, MateFit or otherwise.

Finally, as with any other supplement, diet plan, or exercise program you’re thinking about beginning, you should always consult with your physician first.

Bottom line: If you really enjoy trying out different teas, MateFit may be worthwhile. But if you’re looking to lose weight and improve your health, remember that tea-based supplements have not been shown to work, and the best method is always diet and exercise.

  • Mine came with bugs.

WARNING. I got a refund from this company because about 6 months of the product being in the cupboard there were bugs found inside sealed packages. I will never touch Matefit products or any loose-leaf tea again. Had to clean out all my cupboards to exterminate.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Serving size change and Zero communication with company

I have been drinking this tea since last August 2014. A couple of months ago, the serving size changed from 1 tablespoon to 1 teaspoon. First of all the company should notify people about this and let us know WHY the change? I tried to contact the Company as to the reason for the change, but got no response. Also I feel like the tea worked when it was the original formula, now I don't feel anything and don't see any change. I don't want to continue with the product unless I know the reasoning. Is it not safe to take a tablespoon? I would appreciate any advice.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Super sick

I was sick for two days after drinking this crap! I was excited to try it. It's when I actually tried this thing that infuriated me and I was super sick for two days. I had major headaches major abdominal pain. I was in so much pain my boyfriend was going take me to the doctors. It was honestly awful and I couldn't believe I spent so much money on tea for it to make so violently ill.

I won't go into details of the rest but let's end with the fact that it was not pretty. I was so dehydrated I should have gone to the hospital for IV! My boyfriend gave me Gatorade since it's the only thing I could drink at the time. When this website asks if I would recommend this to a friend, the answer is NO I wouldn't and not even to an enemy!

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    On and off

    • England, UK,

I bought the ultimate Teatox. The metabolic boost (taken 15 minutes before breakfast and lunch) tends to be time consuming - if you have to be up and out quick in the morning, it's quite difficult to balance times. It does give you energy however, when I work out after drinking a cup, I feel energized.

The detox tea does work in the sense that you will end up sitting on the toilet for half an hour in the morning. Detox = laxative = all bad toxins are excreted from your body. I would not recommend this detox drink to those who have to get up early and be confined to a room with no toilet access.

I would recommend the product in the sense that it acts as a placebo. I drink the drink, this inspires me to eat healthy food with it, and subsequently exercise more. Whether the ingredients actually have an effect, I'm unsure of, however it tastes good and motivates me.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    I like it

You have to remember that every person is different. Your body will not react the same to something as your friends or family. I didn't like the taste of the detox at all but the metabolic boost tea tastes yummy and I feel very energized after drinking it. I like it and will continue to purchase it.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
