About Micro Knife 180

The Micro Knife 180 claims to be an innovative credit card-shaped knife that converts into a full size pocket knife when it’s needed, and into a 2mm thick (about the thickness of a nickel) plastic “card” that can be stored in your wallet when it’s not. Ultimately, the company claims that you’ll be able to have a knife with you wherever you go.

The Micro Knife 180 is claimed to be made of a polypropylene handle and a 2.5” surgical steel blade, and weigh in at just 13 grams. Despite its small size though, the Micro Knife 180 is claimed to cut through just about anything, including cardboard, vegetables, drywall, and more. And when you’re done using your Micro Knife 180, the manufacturer claims that its waterproof design means that dirt and water will whisk away.

With claimed benefits like these, you might be tempted to hand over your credit card information this instant. But is the Micro Knife 180 ultimately worth your money? Consider the following:

Keep Your Options Open

First, keep in mind that while credit card knives are a relatively recent invention, they’re also offered by a variety of manufacturers, although prices are typically higher than what you’ll find with the Micro Knife 180.

In fact, the Micro Knife 180 looks essentially identical to the Ian Sinclair Cardship model reviewed in this YouTube video, with the exception of its silver blade. It’s even made with propylene plastic and surgical steel.

What Are You Planning to Use the Knife For?

If you’re looking for something that you can use regularly for everyday tasks, many consumers have complained that credit card knives require too many steps to open and close, making them inconvenient for regular use.

Even if you were willing to look past the inconvenience of credit card knives though, many owners have claimed that they’re relatively flimsy (including the blade), so they’re just not suited for everyday use.

Micro Knife 180 Pricing & Refund Policy

2 Micro Knife 180s are priced at  $12 plus $7.99, and you’ll also be able to purchase another 2 knives for an additional $7.99 S&H. If you choose this option, your total will come to $27.98.

The Micro Knife 180 comes with a 60-day refund policy, less S&H charges, as well as a 60-day warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. If you decide to return the product, this means you’ll immediately be out $15.98 in S&H charges, in addition to whatever it’ll cost to send the knives back to the manufacturer.

Important note: According to the product’s Customer Care page, “If warranty service is necessary, the original purchaser must pack the product securely and send it postage paid with a description of the defect, proof of purchase, and a check or money order for $7.99 per knife to cover return postage and handling.” In other words, not only will you be required to pay return shipping back to the manufacturer, you’ll be required to enclose a check to cover S&H charges when they send you a replacement.

In order to request a refund or process a warranty claim, you’ll need to contact customer service at (973) 287-5159.

Bottom Line: Should You Buy the Micro Knife 180?

When it comes down to it, while the Micro Knife 180 may be a neat gadget to own, and it may even be useful in the event of an emergency, many consumers have complained that credit card knives take too many steps to assemble in order to be truly useful for much else.

So if you’re willing to eat the S&H charges should you be dissatisfied with your purchase, and as long as you understand that your knife will only be minimally useful, you might want to give the Micro Knife 180 a shot. Just be sure that you don’t forget about it and try to pass through an airport security checkpoint!

    Beware Micro Knife

    • Kendall, FL,
    • Jul 31, 2015

Beware of Micro Knife. Firstly, I was trying to place an order by phone and that gets you locked in for a while declining half a dozen other offers. Secondly and more important, the wording of the Micro Knife offer is deliberately ambiguous. You may think that you have ordered four knives ("2 sets") but you are interpreted as having ordered eight instead. Be sure to double check your order and bank account. If you try to send an email to clarify your order, it gets bounced back. If you try to speak to a Micro Knife agent, you will probably get an argument and will probably spend many minutes more on the phone getting nowhere. The second time I called, I did get a more reasonable agent, who agreed to cancel the "order for eight knives" and to register an order for the four knives as I originally did order.

Micro Knives is a high-pressured outfit that counts on wearing you down to order things you do not want and to give up trying to get an adjustment.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Scam, avoid this Micro Knife

    • Jul 13, 2015

I ordered the Micro Knife from TV ad by phone. Unfortunately the call was completely automated with no option to talk with a real person. I accepted the buy 2 get 2 free. I had to go through 50-75 questions and offers to buy more knives and other items. I said no to all offers except original buy 2 get 2 free.

Well I just received the package of 4 items yesterday. There were already outrageous shipping costs of 15.98 for both sets and they charged me half price for second set in addition.

I called customer service and spoke with an Indian gentleman who I could barely understand due to his accent. He confirmed that I ordered buy 2 get 2 free but said he was not authorized to refund $22.47 charged for the second set (that was supposed to be free). He tried to tell me that I ordered an "extra set" and that I should have ordered from a real person instead of using an automated system. It was totally absurd on both accounts. He transferred me to supervisor since he was not authorized to refund.

Sherina came on the line and tried every angle to blame me for charging me for second "free" set. She interrupted me every time I tried or was asked to explain. She was amazing rude. She even offered to let me send back second set (I would have to pay postage) in exchange for a refund of $22.47. Of course this was not option since I was supposed to get second set for free. Essentially, I would be paying double the price for the first set if I returned the second set.

Finally, she offered $15 refund but said that the sale will be final and I may not return knives for any reason despite the 60 day return guarantee. How terrible is that? I have not decided whether to accept $15 offer or dispute the whole purchase with my bank and credit card.

Stay away because Micro knife is a scam and fraudulent.

    Big Scam

    • Boston, MA,
    • Jul 13, 2015

I order four knives in early November as Christmas gifts. Well I called them four times and finally got an email on January 7th saying that the knives were shipped. On February 3rd, I called and canceled the order. They tried keeping the shipping and handing costs event though I never actually received the knives. This is a total scam.

    Still waiting

    • New York,
    • Jul 13, 2015

Ordered the knife in November. It is now the end of January and still nothing. When I checked on the order, it was out of stock. Also, the shipping and handling came out to 31 dollars for a 12 dollar knife. It’s a rip off company.

Slow, slow delivery and outrageous fees.

    • Washington,
    • Jul 12, 2015

On December 1st 2014, ordered four Microknife packets, each containing two knives. Each packet weighs approximately two ounces, at most. The order was delivered January 14th, 2015, which was six weeks after the order was placed. Certainly that's well in advance of Christmas 2015, but that was not the Christmas for which the order was intended.

Even worse, the total charge for the knives themselves was $19.48. The "processing and handling" charge was $31.96. Bringing the total to $51.44, which is $6.43 for each knife. The "shipping and Handling" was 50% more than the knives themselves.

No wonder the Micro Knife charges so little for the knives; much more money is made by "handling", as the cost to ship less than half a pound of plastic from the Connecticut address on the invoice to anywhere in the USA via UPS is much less than that.

Cannot recommend this company with their undisclosed "handling fees" enough. Unless you to want to fall for this scam, stay away.

    Terrible company to buy from.

    • New Hampshire,
    • Jul 9, 2015

I ordered some micro-knives on November 14th. I called them on December 16th wondering where they were. I was told they have no idea when they will get them. I thought that by ordering them early I could give them as Christmas presents. Not a chance.

I asked why they are still advertising them on TV when they can't fill their orders from over a month ago. The girl just kept apologizing for my inconvenience.

Don't waste your money on these people.

    Disappointment and anger

    • CA,
    • Mar 4, 2015

When attempting to gather information and possibility of purchasing this type of knife, I found myself dealing with a non-stop machine. It's purpose seemed to relate on selling other products and not dealing with the knife sale. I found myself constantly yelling at the "sales pitches" and left wondering at what might come in the mail. When you repeatedly say "NO" and the machine continues; it is frustrating and angering.

When I reviewed quoted "Processing and Handling" fees I can only assume that your company is very proud of mailing items. The items were charged at $12.99 and mailing them was $31.96. This type of customer service will stop my making any future purchases.

Micro Knife is an As Seen on TV scam!

    • Elizabethtown, KY,
    • Feb 4, 2015

Not worth what they are selling them for. To me, the TV ad is somewhat deceitful. I contacted the customer service the same day l received my order but I couldn't understand because all the representatives could not speak English well enough for me to get an authorization return number, which is required. I will never recommend ordering these knives.
