Hailing itself as an easier way to get your body moving each and every day, the Pedal Trainer Pro is an “As Seen On TV” fitness product that claims to allow you to exercise anytime, anywhere. The device comes with a number of different features that are designed to allow you to integrate its use into your daily life and work rhythms.

The idea behind the product is straightforward enough; you simply need to place the Pedal Trainer Pro underneath you while sitting on the couch, at work, or anywhere else, and you can conveniently and discretely burn calories all throughout the day, thanks to the pedal action and an array of various resistance levels.

Weighing in at under 20 pounds, the makers of Pedal Trainer Pro claim that it is easy to carry with you on the go. That being said, this is completely relative, as the product is clearly geared towards those who are nearing their Golden Years.

As consumers ourselves, we think it’s important to take the product’s weight into account for this reason alone. Additionally, the device comes in 4 different colors; black, blue, gray and purple.

For many of us, finding the time to exercise consistently can be a truly difficult task at times, especially with distractions around every corner in our busy, modern lives.

The rising cost of a gym membership and the frustration that comes along with finding the time to go can add fuel to the flames, which can lead to discouragement and even resentment of exercise if you aren’t careful.

If the Pedal Trainer Pro was really able to provide a convenient way to burn calories, get your heart rate up, and provide you the level of fitness you desire in general, there’s a good chance it would be worth its weight in gold for many of us.

Having said that, we need to first look into how the device claims to work, going over the essential features and benefits of the exercise pedaler to determine just how effective the device might be at living up to the expectations set by its makers. In the next section, that’s exactly what we’ll do.

How Does Pedal Trainer Pro Claim To Work?

The Pedal Trainer Pro works by providing 8 different resistance levels as you pedal, the intensity of which can be controlled by an easy-to-operate selection wheel on the base of the device. In theory, this should provide a versatile setup for everyone to be able to use, regardless of your current fitness level.

The resistance is provided by a series of magnets that provide frictionless functionality, as opposed to more traditional contact-based solutions, like brake pads. To change the amount of resistance at any time, you only need to turn the control dial to your prefered level, 1 being the lowest resistance and 8 being the highest.

The magnetic nature of the Pedal Trainer Pro means that the device will always be very quiet and inconspicuous, at least according to its makers.

Pedal Trainer Pro also features a digital display that tracks the speed you are pedaling, the time elapsed, the calories burned, and the distance you’ve traveled. This allows you to be more involved with your workout, even while idly pedaling during a busy workday.

That being said, it should be noted that the number of calories burned on machines like this tend to vary depending on your age, fitness level, and weight, among other factors. Keeping this in mind when looking into any device that keeps track of calories burned is always a good idea.

Are Exercise Pedalers Known To Be Effective?

A quick Google search for exercise pedalers similar to the Pedal Trainer Pro brings up literally dozens of different results, and based on our experience, it’s clear that there are many different companies offering products at least somewhat functionally similar to Pedal Trainer Pro on the market today.

The big question that’s likely on your mind, we’d guess, is simple: “Is Pedal Trainer Pro truly effective?” Are these types of fitness devices generally regarded as being worthy of your time, or is this yet another disappointment waiting to happen?

LIVESTRONG.COM reports that in general, exercise pedalers can indeed be effective at helping you to burn calories throughout the day, when used correctly. These types of products are best used while doing something else, such as watching TV at home or during the course of a normal workday. In this sense, the manufacturer goes so far as to claim that you can burn up to 2000 calories during a standard workday, as opposed to not burning any at all.

All of this said, it’s also a good idea to watch your diet in addition to a healthy workout regimen. Shawn M. Talbott, PhD, a nutritional biochemist and former director of the University of Utah Nutrition Clinic, had this to say in a recent Huffington Post article:

“As a rule of thumb, weight loss is generally 75 percent diet and 25 percent exercise. An analysis of more than 700 weight loss studies found that people see the biggest short-term results when they eat smart. On average, people who dieted without exercising for 15 weeks lost 23 pounds; the exercisers lost only six over about 21 weeks. It’s much easier to cut calories than to burn them off. For example, if you eat a fast-food steak quesadilla, which can pack 500-plus calories, you need to run more than four miles to ‘undo’ it!”

This tells us that a proper diet is a must-have for any exercise habit, regardless of your age or desired fitness level.

Now that we know that Pedal Trainer Pro is potentially an effective component of a healthy exercise routine, let’s find out just how much it’ll cost you to get one of your own.

Pedal Trainer Pro Pricing & Return Policy

Pedal Trainer Pro is currently available online or over the phone only. It looks as though the company offers a free trial of sorts, allowing you to try out the product risk free for 30 days for $14.95.

If you are unsatisfied for any reason, the terms on the main website state that you can contact the company for a full refund of the trial amount, no questions asked. All you’ll need to do is return the device in its original packaging, which the company advises that you keep for the duration of the trial. At under 20 lbs, just remember you’re likely to pay at least $10 or more for shipping.

If you decide that Pedal Trainer Pro is effective for you, you simply need to keep enjoying it, and you’ll be billed for 5 monthly payments of $24.95, totalling out to $139.90. These payments will be taken out of the same credit or debit card used to process the trial transaction.

Some Parting Thoughts On Pedal Trainer Pro

Looking at the product as a whole, the Pedal Trainer Pro seems like a straightforward, simplistic exercise device that could quite possibly live up to the various claims made by its creators. That being said, as we mentioned earlier on, it looks as though there are a multitude of products that share design and functionality cues to the Pedal Trainer Pro, and it looks as though the pricing for these products can range wildly at times.

For instance, there appears to be a similar product on Amazon.com right now with over 2,000 customer reviews, the bulk of which are positive. To make things more interesting, this product costs about the same as a single payment for the Pedal Trainer Pro.

That being said, it doesn’t look as though it utilizes the magnetic resistance found in the pedal Trainer Pro, which potentially explains the price differential. Seeing as we haven’t tested either product out for ourselves, we can’t truly compare the two head to head, but at the very least, it’s worth it to consider your alternatives when looking at a product like this.

All in all, we feel it’s safe to say that Pedal Trainer Pro represents a potentially effective way to stay active throughout the day. The science behind these types of machines is clear, and though there are alternatives that are worth considering, the Pedal Trainer Pro looks to deliver solid functionality and effectiveness for what it costs. If you’d like to take the trial for the product for a test drive, just be sure to keep the 30-day return policy in mind when doing so.
