Piping Rock Review: What You Should Know

By Lydia Noyes

Updated on: Jun 22, 2020

What Is Piping Rock?

Piping Rock is an e-commerce site with a focus on natural health products like vitamins, supplements, pet supplies, and more.

By providing quality vitamins, supplements, and essential oils at discount prices, Piping Rock claims to offer everything you need to live healthy at an incredible value.

The company claims offers some of the lowest prices in the industry by manufacturing their supplements in their facility in Ronkonkoma, NY, shipping them right to your door, and then passing the savings on to you.

There were hundreds of products sold on its website, and a large percentage are Piping Rock name-brand items.

For instance, the company sells close to fifty different scents of fragrance oils, all of which are sold in different formats and under the Piping Rock name.

One standout section of the site is called “Crazy Deals.” Here, you’ll find dozens of sale products sold for a fraction of the listed price.

For example, we found clove fragrance oil selling for $0.89 (87% off) and Super Lion’s Mane Mushroom supplements for $7.59 (62% off). There are also several dozen “two for one” deal options listed among the site’s Crazy Deals.

In addition, local customers can also purchase Piping Rock supplements through their brick and mortar outlet, which is located adjacent to their manufacturing facility in New York.

Quality Control

The company manufactures all brand-name products on-site in order to control its quality.

Piping Rock owns and manages GMP-certified facilities, which is an FDA regulation acronym for “good manufacturing practices.” This certification ensures that manufacturers meet minimum requirements for creating, packaging, and selling drug products.

The company also owns a world-class microbiology lab for testing the safety, purity, and potency of their products. They claim that each product undergoes hundreds of quality checks, both before hitting the market and during post-production, to ensure quality.

We found evidence that Piping Rock occasionally experiences product recalls. In August 2019, the brand recalled its wintergreen essential oil due to a failure to meet child-resistant closure requirements.

Return Policy

Piping Rock provides a one-year, 100% satisfaction guarantee on all their supplements.

To initiate a return, you’ll need to contact customer service and include a brief explanation of why you’re returning the product.

How Do Piping Rock Prices Compare to Other Sellers?

Because Piping Rock sells a wide variety of supplements and other health products, their prices can vary significantly based on what you buy.

We wanted to determine whether you’ll get a better deal on this site, so we compared the cost of a sampling of products in every category to two other e-commerce sites, Amazon and Walmart.

Note that the majority of products sold by Piping Rock are its own brand. We chose to look only at name brand products to ensure all three stores carried them.

The final category of this chart shows what a close equivalent Piping Rock brand product costs, where applicable.

Category Product Piping Rock Amazon Walmart Piping Rock Brand Equivalent Price
Supplements Alive! Calcium + D3 Gummies $8.89 $8.61 $12.24 $4.25
Vitamins Dynamic Health Children's Liquid Multi-vitamin $6.19 $9.73 $9.73 $5.79

Beauty Mill Creek Keratin Shampoo $7.39 $7.99 $13.29 NA
Sports Bob’s Red Mill Hemp Protein Powder $8.99 $16.22 $9.88 $7.99
Weight Support Bio Nutrition 100% Natural Raspberry Ketone $12.99 $13.99 $16.42 $15.99
Nuts & Seeds Now Foods Almond Flour $5.99 $8.41 $10.52 NA

Piping Rock seems to deliver on its promise of offering some of the best prices available.

We found that the company beat out the competition cost-wise for almost every product we looked at, especially with Piping Rock brand items.

Just keep in mind that you’ll have to factor in shipping costs. PipingRock.com offers a $3.95 flat shipping fee, regardless of your order size.

If you already have Amazon Prime or can pick up items in-store at Walmart, then you might not save money with Piping Rock overall.

Analysis of Customer Reviews

On our website, Piping Rock has earned a rating of 2.8-stars after more than 250 reviews. Most of these reviews seem to be either five stars or one star.

Happy shoppers stated that their orders arrived quickly and in excellent condition. They appreciated the cost savings compared to shopping with other companies.

On the other end of the spectrum, the one-star reviewers wrote that they never received the products they ordered or that the item took more than ten weeks to arrive.

Others questioned the efficacy of the products they received and that they might not be the pure formulations the company promised.

Trustpilot reviews show a similar story. Reviewers awarded Piping Rock 2.5 stars after more than 800 reviews, the majority of which are one-star.

A large percentage of negative reviews seem to be from shoppers outside the United States who struggled with slow shipping and poor customer support.

The Bottom Line

Piping Rock offers a vast assortment of supplements and other wellness products at prices that beat most name brand alternatives available today.

This seemingly makes it an excellent resource for stocking up, especially since the $3.95 shipping rate doesn’t change based on how much you order.

However, the average customer experience seems to leave something to be desired. Piping Rock doesn’t have great reviews, most of which due to shipping problems.

If you’re willing to risk longer shipping times, then the cost savings offered by Piping Rock may be worth it to you because of their low prices.

Supplements are valuable medicines = expiration dates are very important!

By Dandelion Root Capsule Purchaser, Wisconsin, Verified Reviewer

My experience with Piping Rock was disconcerting. Supplements are valued medicines to many people (Dandelion Root is a diuretic, which is an important medicine to aid in the reduction of excess water in the body). Quality and reliability of medicines and supplements is extremely important.

Piping Rock shipped me one of the two bottles (as a set) of Dandelion Root Capsules, with the expiration label selectively TORN OFF. This is NOT acceptable. Use your imagination as to why any Medicinal Supplement Company would remove an expiration date. Did they think I wouldn't notice or wouldn't care? WRONG!

When I contacted Piping Rock to complain, they wanted to refund me less than 50% of what I paid. "Unscrupulous'" is the best word to describe them, dragging their feet in every step of the refund process, not to mention Piping Rock won't post honest reviews on their website, which are less than positive. That's very deceptive.

After learning there's been litigation regarding no less than 49 Piping Rock products containing LEAD, I do not feel safe consuming Dandelion Root capsules, nor any other supplement from Piping Rock. Beware of "Good-Great Hurry Buy-Now Special Deals" at Piping Rock. Like Gramma always said: "If it seems too good to be true, it is!"

Competitor products are better

By David, Little Rock, AR, Verified Reviewer

With many vitamins and minerals, you won't know for years whether or not they are working. With Niacin, I know in minutes. I get much less effect from 1000mg of this B3 than from a 100 mg of a competitor's product. Based upon the effects of this product, I have serious questions as to the purity of the Piping Rock products and will probably return everything I ordered.

Ineffective supplements

By Ronald Ross ,

I purchased two bottles of L-arginine for working out and they had no effect on me compared to the now brand. When I called to get my money back they insisted that I would have to pay for shipping before they returned my money. The product is poor quality and part of me thinks the whole company is a scam.

Terrible quality oils. They won't post negative reviews on site!

By Ang , Brooklyn, NY

The mark of a shady company is the fact that they will not allow negative reviews posted on their website. I left 2 negative, VERY POLITE, very professionally worded reviews about the quality of their essential oil. TWICE they wouldn't allow my comment posted on the site. They did, however, email me privately and tell me they would refund me for ONE of the oils I purchased (cheapest one). After the shipping costs and such, it wasn't worth the fight or money to ship anything back.

The oils are VERY heavily chemically scented. They are not even for aromatherapy let alone for therapeutic purposes.

Don't fall for this scam of a company, people. I wasted $40 with them. Don't make my mistake.

Cart price changes

By Ron B, Holden, Maine, Verified Reviewer

I put items in my cart at a set price, but before I could place the order the prices in the cart changed to higher prices on each item. Their customer service had no idea and refused to help or honor the lower prices. Many emails later, I received no satisfaction. They don't care about their good customers.

Prices listed are not what you pay, get ready for a surprise on your bill

By Joyce, Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I have ordered several times and various items from Piping Rock. When you go on their site, it SHOULD default to your country (mine being Canada). When you order, it is SUPPOSEDLY in Canadian Dollars, but when I got my credit card bill, I was billed in American funds, so I ended up paying way more than what I should have.

I called but got no response when promised. I emailed three times and finally was told, "sorry for your luck, we have your money, so no refund was given." Shipping costs seem to fluctuate as well. Customer service does not get back to you, which makes me question the quality of their products. I will be looking for a more credible site to spend my money on.

Poor quality

By Linda , South of the border

I bought two bottles of bee propolis. One 120 cap and other 240, the smaller bottle appeared to be lighter color, different from the large bottle, and upon opening the capsule it is definitely not pure bee propolis. Upon tasting, I realize it contained corn meal or similar ingredients. What a disappointment as I have been a loyal customer for so many years.

Horrible Policy Regarding Stolen Packages

By Rosa Abdullah, NJ, Verified Reviewer

I have been using Piping Rock for a few years now and I am truly disappointed in the company's shipping policies. I placed an order last week and was just informed by the USPS carrier that the item was stolen from her en route to my home. When I called their customer service department, I was informed that it's not their policy to either refund or replace the packages because once it leaves their facility they are no longer responsible for it. That is the worst customer service policy I have ever heard of! If a package is purchased and it doesn't reach the customer, a company should have policies in place to work towards an amicable resolution rather than say it's not your policy. I have purchased items from many companies to be delivered before and packages don't always arrive, yet every other company either replaces, or worst case scenario reimburses. I have bought many items through my patronage with you and recommended you to many others. I am truly disappointed with you and will no longer use your company and tell everyone I know not to be weary of using you.

100mg R-Lipoic Acid

By DMP , Los Angeles

I have been using Alpha Lipoic Acid for years and it's working, bringing my blood sugar down. I tried the 100 mg R Lipoic Acid and it has worked more effective for my blood sugar. Recently I bought 2 bottles of 100 mg R Lipoic Acid (120 capsules/bottle bio-enhanced from Piping Rock). I took it for the past 2 days and checked my fasting blood sugar and 2 hours after meal blood sugar and the reading is much higher than the R Alpha Lipoic Acid I bought from other internet stores.

Piping Rock

By Desmond Foulger, Auckland New Zealand, Verified Reviewer

This was the third and last time I will order goods from this company. I was attracted by their low prices, and my first shipment arrived on time. My second shipment had no shipping information, and I had to email them. My third shipment, which I paid DHL rates for 3-7 day shipping, had no shipping info and when I inquired, I was told it will be 2-6 weeks. So these two complaints so far have resulted in no communication.

I have no problem with their products, just their slipshod and inefficient shipping department. I will go back to my ten-year, no hassle iHerb.com. I won't be ordering from this totally inefficient company. Even two stars are too many. Not recommended.

Poor experience.

By Nathan, VICTORIA BC, Verified Reviewer

I tried to order some things and despite being told it was free shipping, I was charged eight dollars for it which turned out to be 12 when I looked at the statement. Also, I never actually got a confirmed checkout. The response kept saying merchant override failure then I looked at my bank statement online and had been charged three times for the stuff. So the free shipping was total nonsense and the supposed eight dollar charge for shipping turned into 12 somehow.

I'm still trying to contact them to reverse this but no success as of yet. I'm quite frustrated. Watch out for when sites say "merchant override failure". That's the lesson I learned today.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
