About Pocket Desktop
Pocket Desktop is a USB device that the makers claim uses “military technology” to “create a security wall” to keep your computer and your personal information safe from hackers and viruses. It also lets you browse the internet without leaving any traces of your web activity.
The makers of Pocket Desktop — Encryptakey, Inc based in Stamford, CT, claim that with this product your personal information is not being compromised and your online activity cannot be tracked. It allegedly protects your personal files, credit card information, bank information and emails.
How the Pocket Desktop Works
You just plug the Pocket Desktop into any USB port on your computer and reboot the machine and choose to boot it from the Pocket Desktop rather than booting from its native operating system. Your computer will then use the Pocket Desktop’s own Linux-based operating system to run. Because it is read-only, Pocket Desktop is immune to the majority of malware and since it is based on Linux, it is immune to viruses written to exploit Windows and Mac.
In addition to storage, which works with the pre-installed Drop Box Software on the USB (that you will have to sign up for) the Pocket Desktop includes more than 40 of today’s most popular programs. It comes with its own secure Linux-based operating. The programs that it comes with are all apparently free online like Skype, Open Office and Firefox to name a few. The 4GB version comes with 19 programs while the larger versions come with an additional 21 programs.
The makers of Pocket Desktop claim that it's highly user friendly, but according to some users, it does what it claims to do but is a bit underwhelming and not particularly user friendly.
The Pocket Desktop comes in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB sizes.

Darren Chaker Approved Security
I use IronKey and compared Pocket Desktop to it. The encryption is high grade, the Linux system is great to avoid malware, key loggers, and virus attacks. I personally liked the attributes and the ease of use. I would not look over it and believe it is a good value.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
