About Portion Controller

By helping you to achieve surgical weight loss results without the surgery, the Portion Controller belt claims to be a weight loss revolution that can stop hunger almost immediately, and can help you lose weight without diets or diet food. In order to accomplish this, this unique, scientifically-designed Portion Controller weight loss belt claims to help you feel full and to help the “fat fall off.”

The Portion Controller website claims that it’s not necessarily what we eat that makes us overweight, but the amount. With this in mind, can this belt actually help you lose weight, or will you just waste time and money? Keep reading to learn about the facts we squeezed out during our research.

How Does the Portion Controller Claim to Work?

Unlike the Tummy Tuck Belt, which claims to slim your belly in just 10 minutes per day, the patented Portion Controller Belt claims to apply gentle pressure directly to the region of your stomach that controls the feeling of fullness. And as a result, your stomach cavity is shrunk, thereby making you feel fuller after eating much smaller portions.

According to the product’s website, the Portion Controller is scientifically proven to stop your cravings, control hunger, and “flatten stubborn belly fat,” all while allowing you to eat what you like without the need for exercise. Simply place the Portion Controller belt exactly one finger width above the navel on an empty stomach to begin experiencing results, and then remove it any time you wish.

The Portion Controller belt is available in sizes S (26" - 31"), M (32" - 45"), L (46" - 56"), and XL (57" - 72"), and is discreet enough that it can be worn under your clothing for hunger control wherever you are. Once removed, the belt is claimed to cause virtually no side effects.

Portion Controller Pricing & Refund Policy

The Portion Controller weight loss belt is available for 3 payments of $29.95, plus $7.99 S&H, bringing your total to $97.84. Alternately, you can choose a single payment of $89.95, which includes free shipping and express delivery.

The Portion Controller belt comes with a 30-day money back guarantee, less S&H charges. In order to begin the refund policy, you’ll need to contact customer service at 877-356-3023.

Can the Portion Controller Really Help You Lose Weight?

When it comes down to it, is the Portion Controller belt scientifically proven to control hunger, or will it just end up lightening your wallet? To answer, keep the following in mind:

Scientific Proof

First, it’s important to note that this is the only scientific study referenced on the Portion Controller website, which was completed in 1986. In it, the abstract states, “Compression of the animal stomach gives rise to vagal discharges that could signal satiety.” In other words, the study appears to have been conducted on animals, not on humans, which could have a big impact on the belt’s real-world efficacy.

Other than this, there are no online studies showing that these types of belts can help you lose weight.

Price vs. Efficacy

With this said, we found several online reviews claiming that the same thing can be accomplished using an elastic band attached to a tennis ball that’s been cut in half. As such, it brings into question as to why the Portion Controller costs as much as it does, given its simplicity.

On top of this, although it may help you feel fuller, the Portion Controller belt almost certainly won’t stop any of your food cravings. This is because, as noted by WebMD, cravings are “all in your head” and have much less to do with actual hunger.

Real-World Weight Loss Solution?

Next, keep in mind that if the Portion Controller works at all, it will only be useful while it’s worn. As such, unless you plan to wear it for months at a time, you’ll probably tire of it relatively quickly. And since the Portion Controller doesn’t have any effect on your cravings (which are mental), it doesn’t actually teach you any type of real portion control, so it probably doesn’t represent a legitimate long-term weight loss solution.

Customer Reviews

Finally, it’s interesting to note that although the Portion Controller’s primary URL has been registered since 2010, there are essentially zero online customer reviews that can be used in order to gauge efficacy. On top of this, the company is not listed with the Better Business Bureau.

However, we did learn that the company has a showroom in Smithtown, NY where customers can try on the weight loss belt prior to purchasing. Although some of the reviews found here claim that they’ve experienced rude customer service at the store, and even that they were quoted a much higher price (around $1,200) if they didn’t have insurance.

Bottom line:

Between the lack of online customer reviews, the product’s high price, and the lack of clinical evidence showing its efficacy, you’ll probably want to talk with your physician about more effective forms of portion control than the Portion Controller weight loss belt.

Pros:

  • Claims to help you feel fuller and more satiated, while eating less.
  • Can help you lose weight without dieting or exercise.
  • 30-day refund policy.

Cons:

  • Almost no clinical evidence showing its efficacy.
  • Very few online customer reviews despite the length of time the weight los belt has been on the market.
  • High price.

    Finally Something Works!

I have to say I have been heavy my whole life and tried everything!

Whoever says this product doesn't work doesn't know what they are talking about because if I could lose 25 pounds after struggling my whole life then anybody can!

I lost 6 pounds the first week and 5 inches all over my body. I wear the belt all day from morning till night and followed the instructions as told to me by their office in Farmingville, NY. They have the kindest staff and they REALLY care about you losing weight, I get a text every week checking up on how I feel and if I'm feeling full and just to encourage me a long the way. It took me a little over 2 months to lose the weight and I'm still losing more. I'd recommend the belt to anyone who needs to lose weight.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    I lost 9 lbs in a week.

    • Yaphank, NY,
    • Aug 9, 2016

I am so excited about the Portion Controller belt! I finally found something that literally cuts my portions by almost half. The people at the Farmingville office are so nice and helpful, they really make you feel like they are in this together with you. I get a call or text 1-2 times a week to see how I am and how the belt is feeling and I couldn't be happier with the results so far.

I don't know about people's experiences in the past but I know the doctor who invented the belt passed away and left the business to his daughters who really do this work with all their heart. I'm so happy I gave the office a call. Try it and you won't be disappointed.

    Don't do it

Even though insurance pays for this, it is most definitely crap. Don't waste your time and energy. The doctor doesn't care, he is just in it for the money he makes off of the series of tests he has you do before you get the belt. After that, he drops out of sight, nowhere to be found. Then they will print you out the test results for your own doctor to read. So you could be afraid that something is wrong with you, until you finally get into an appointment with your own doctor. BIG disappointment!

    Scam

This is a scam. They do a bunch of tests and charge the insurance company a bunch of money. They don't show you product until they strap it on and it's tight and uncomfortable. It was a waste of time and money. Don't bother wasting your time. I kind of thought this from the beginning when I walked in and there was no before and after pictuers. A big red flag!

    It's not that bad!

    • Long Island, NY,
    • Dec 6, 2014

I am on day 4 - It was a bit painful on skin definitely better on top of tank. I spent day 2 really trying to find that hunger spot because I only felt uncomfortable day 1.

Day 1 I was really good low carb no sugar even had tea instead of coffee, ate every 3 hours - was extremely uncomfortable after eating... well it works. I needed to eat less. (Immediately noticed that this is all in my head! This band around my waist reminded me that I just want to have something in my mouth because I feel full and I am obviously uncomfortable - so why should I eat!?)

Day 2 pretty good no hunger - (tummy a bit tender) again no sugar no carbs but his time ate every 4 hours much better for me the belt still seemed uncomfortable but definitely not as bad as Day 1. (I think my body takes a bit longer to break down that food. (I used to be able to eat every 3 hours ) so its not just portion right now its retraining my metabolism *which can use a big butt kick*)

Day 3 oh my gas time... I was using the bathroom more frequently and that is not normal for me. (I think not normal for anyone who has stomach issues) I did take some natural herbal stool softener to help me before bed. I kept to the 4 hour and so far so good. Oh I do not eat past 8 this is the worse for me because I like to wake up and snack... my sleep has been much better I feel like I am forgetting to do so many things at home because my main focus is just going to bed to take this belt off. But my boys told me to just lay down and relax with it on - well I did and believe it or not it helped I don't know maybe our stomachs need a break too! helped release a lot of gas.

I don't know my thinking is that we are eating less but have a smaller area to fill so we got push what's there out instead of just continuing to stretch our stomach muscles just because they are already stretched out.

*ok so here are some perks already... I was walking straight, and confident, it literately makes you feel good. I can walk faster, cause I feel more supported with the belt on (in didn't know how much my actual stomach weighed me down lol weird). Ok and guess what, I am bit more comfortable with my jeans on because my stomach is the one with the pressure not my waist line trying to hold my stomach. So more of jeans and less leggings.

I would like to right more but this was totally random - I believe in the science behind it... sometimes we need a little physical pain to gain our results...

Oh about the testing... look I think its great that we get technician that are certified to check us out with all of the equipment. Its not all the time that we get that. But naturally you know NY its for legal purposes... we do have a follow up appointment to check results... besides its some form of accountability.

Hey look you have to find the positive when we want to loose weight, my friend said hey so what's the purpose if you can take it off whenever you want... I said again mentally I have to want to loose weight so why would I take it off. ugh...

Ok - well - got to go going to shower and get my belt on this is my cheat day. Yes I get to eat sugar and carbs today but I will be very careful. On day 1 I was going to explode because although it was ALL GOOD HEALTHY no carb no sugar foods I was still FULL! So I am eating today sugar and carb but keeping belt on!

Belt is not bad, however the testing is a RIP OFF

    • Long Island, NY,
    • Nov 18, 2014

If you live in NY they MAKE you go in the office for "testing". Its all a scam! I never saw 1 real doctor! They did tons of testing, and then gave me the belt anyway, not giving a darn what the test results were! Then I receive my benefits letter from my insurance company and they had the nerve to charge almost $16,000! RIP OFF! It took me weeks to even get my test results in writing!

The belt itself does help you feel full, however, it cuts into your skin and is very uncomfortable. Even when worn with a tee shirt under it.

Bottom line is, skip this and try to eat smaller portions.

Called the 800 number and got a really rude customer service woman. It was an answering service. Not the actual office. Weird.

    Doesn't Work

    • Long Island, NY,
    • Sep 23, 2014

Tried portion controller belt for about 2 months, without any weight loss. They ask you to follow a low carb diet, and wear the belt all day except to bed. It can be very uncomfortable after hours of wearing, and looks very unusual under your clothes causing other people to stare at you inquisitively.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
