About Pure Gold Collagen
Manufactured by Minerva Research Labs based out of Van Nuys, CA, Pure Gold Collagen claims to be a liquid anti-aging supplement designed to help women boost their natural collagen and elastin production, promote nourished skin, hair, and nails from the inside out, and to help them look noticeably younger in as little as 7 weeks.
Because your body’s ability to make collagen decreases with age, and can be exacerbated by environmental factors such as smoking and exposure to the sun, Pure Gold Collagen claims to accomplish this by featuring a patented formula of collagen and other active ingredients, including:
- Protein 5g
- Vitamin C 80mg
- Vitamin E 9IU
- Vitamin B6 1.4mg
- Zinc 1.5mg
- Copper 0.15mg
- Hydrolyzed Collagen 5,000mg
- Hyaluronic Acid 20mg
- Borage Oil 15mg
- Black Pepper Extract 1mg
Because the ingredients contained in Pure Gold Collagen are in a liquid format, and because they’re specifically formulated to retain their structural integrity when traveling through your stomach (e.g. resistant to acid), the company claims that they’re more easily absorbed, and therefore more bioavailable, for your body.
Pure Gold Collagen’s Independent Study
According to the product’s website, a 12-week independent study showed that Pure Gold Collagen increased skin hydration by 12% after 3 weeks, reduced the appearance of fine lines by 15% and deep wrinkles by 27% after 6 weeks, and increased skin elasticity by 20% after 9 weeks. And afterward, the company claims that 89% of participants would recommend Pure Gold Collagen to a friend, 81% would continue to use it, and 76% experienced increased hydration and smoother and healthier skin. We’ll talk more about this shortly.
In order to begin experiencing these benefits, the manufacturer claims that you should drink one bottle of Pure Gold Collagen per day for 4 weeks, or for 8 weeks to experience more pronounced results. Shake well before use.

Can Pure Gold Collagen Help Fight the Signs of Aging from the Inside Out?
While drinking collagen is admittedly a novel concept compared to the countless topical anti-aging products available, does this necessarily mean that it decreases the signs of aging any better? Consider the following:
What Does the Scientific Community Say About Collagen Drinks?
Pure Gold Collagen was first launched in the UK in 2011 through a “10-Day Programme,” so it’s been around long enough to undergo some scrutiny.
With this said, according to a 2012 Daily Mail article consulted 2 dermatologists who stated, “‘A collagen drink offers no advantage that I’m aware of over normal dietary protein. Replenishing collagen stores is a complex and finely tuned biological process. You can’t cheat by importing these molecules “whole” from the diet,” and, “More research is needed before we can be sure if they result in facial rejuvenation.”
An in vitro study conducted in October 2014 found that “ingestion of Pure Gold Collagen can reduce the signs of aging. A larger in vivo study is needed to confirm the anti-aging effect of this supplement. Additional in vitro studies will also help us to understand the potential mechanism of action of this nutritional anti-aging supplement.” However, this study was conducted by the manufacturer, which could have some impact its overall credibility.
Another blog referenced an April 2010 study which found that collagen applied to “cultured human dermal fibroblasts” (e.g. human skin cells grown in a Petri dish) can result in the production of di- or tripeptides, thereby improving the quality of the skin. However, this doesn’t necessarily translate into human use, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that these changes can result in any meaningful anti-aging benefits.
To this end, the blog’s author also undertook a 30-bottle test, and found that it didn’t appear to improve moisturization, didn’t reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and didn’t make her look any younger.
What Do Other Consumers Have to Say About Pure Gold Collagen?
Despite the lack of clinical evidence or widespread support within the medical community for liquid collagen supplements like Pure Gold, the product does seem to have an overall positive online customer reputation. However, some of the most common complaints we encountered during our research cited failure to work, bad taste (peach and passion fruit flavor), and high price.
Price vs. Benefits
However, even if you were to eventually count yourself among Pure Gold Collagen’s satisfied customers, it won’t come cheap. This is because at $110 (including shipping) for a one-month supply, you’ll be paying about $3.66 per serving, which many would consider to be relatively expensive.
Beware the Arbitration Agreement
According to Pure Gold Collagen’s Terms & Conditions, you’ll be agreeing to an arbitration agreement should you have a legal concern with the product or the company. Ultimately, this means you’ll lose the ability to take legal action against the company as an individual or part of a class action lawsuit.
Nearly all anti-aging products contain collagen, although the internal delivery method offered by Pure Gold Collagen is unique. However, there is little clinical evidence showing that internalized collagen can ultimately provide humans with any anti-aging benefits.
Because of this, we’d recommend reading through our Comprehensive Guide to Buying Anti-Aging Products and speaking with your physician about more effective, and perhaps less expensive, anti-aging products than Pure Gold Collagen.
