About ROX Ice Ball Maker

As the name suggests, The Rox ICE Ball Maker is an “As Seen on TV” Plastic tray that claims to make “spherical shaped” ice balls which allegedly melt slower than your traditional cubes. Two main selling points of the ROX tray is that your drink will not get diluted with water as much allowing for you to taste the flavor longer while having it stay cooler. Why? Well, because, essentially spherical ice balls are better than traditional ice cubes.

But How So? Allow us to explain everything within the next few moments that will help you to make a sober decision and not just in the “heat of the moment”.

How Does the ROX Ice Ball Maker Exactly Work?

The concept of the ROX Ice Ball maker definitely sounds great. After all, who wouldn’t want such a thing during the Warm Spring time and Hot summer? Yes Love is in the air.

In the ROX Ice Ball Maker Commercial you probably just saw, they state that Ice Balls melt slower than regular ice cubes because “Spheres have the least amount of surface area than any other shape”. As a result, your soda drink will not get watered down so quickly yet still manage to get cooler and cooler. Yes, that is the law of physics – spheres do have the least amount of surface area. According to the website, the Rox Ice Balls could last for hours. Another great selling point – But all that depends if you keep you drink with the Rox Ice Balls in a cool temperature environment. We highly doubt it will last for hours in the outside heat, FYI. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but we wanted to clearly identify that out for you first.

To get started with the ROX Ice Ball maker, you pour water (or any other liquid flavors) into the bottom tray and close it off with the included top unit. You then just place it into the freezer and wait – much like with a traditional ice tray.

The makers of the ROX Ice Ball Maker tout that it’s made out of BPA-free food grade silicone and is dishwasher safe, which is good, but not verified. In addition, because it is made out of BPA-free food grade silicone, the website demonstrates that it’s quite easy to pop out the ready Ice Balls into the drink AND drum roll please… It’s oven safe, so you could make cake balls as well. YUM!

How much does ROX Cost?

Each Rox Unit makes four Ice Balls at a time and one is currently being sold for $14.99 plus the “famous” non-refundable $5.95 Shipping and Handling. You will also get a second one “free” for an additional $5.95 Shipping and Handling. This will roughly bring your grand total to $26.89. Actually, just so you know, you will not be able to opt out of that “second free” unit. You will be forced to pay that extra $5.95. Should you want to return the product, you’ll have 30-days to do so, but you will not be refunded all of the money you spent on Shipping and Handling including the amount you’ll have to pay out of pocket just to ship it back.

Should you want to place the order right now on the website, you must keep in mind that when you specify the amount of ROX Ice Ball Maker Units you want, for every “unit” included, that additional “free” unit will automatically be latched on and you will have to pay that additional $5.95 for every free unit attached PLUS for the actual unit. So, to put this in perspective, say you will specify that you’ll want to purchase 5 units today (remember, 4 Ice Balls Per unit), you will need to pay a non-refundable $5.95 for each of those 5 units and for the 5 additional free units since for every unit you order, an additional one is "latched" on. You’ll end up paying $59.50 in just shipping and handling charges alone PLUS $15.99 for the five unit bringing your grand total to just about $140, of which $59.60 is non-refundable.

Should you Buy the ROX Ice Ball Maker?

The concept is great, it’s needed especially for the spring and summer times, so no one could oppose to that. The only real problem we see here today with the Rox ICE Ball Maker is that it’s not worth for you to buy via their website today. It’s better for you to purchase them at your local Walgreens or Wal-Mart to avoid the ridiculous Shipping and Handling charges. Should you want to return the project, without a hassle you’ll be able to do so and you will not have to worry about the extra charges.

Also, the original idea for Ice Balls was created for Whisky and Scotch Drinks to help conserve the flavor for as long as possible since those types of drinks are expensive after all. And to tell you the truth, those silicone units that created the Ice Balls for Whisky and Scotch were quite expensive, in the hundreds range. Having said that, since the ROX Ice Ball Maker is an “As Seen on TV”, from past experience and the numerous reviews we’ve accumulated on kitchenware products, in our opinion, chances might greater than usual that you will want to turn the ROX Ice Ball Maker. And if that’s the case, we recommend you insure yourself by purchasing it local rather than the website.
