What Is SuperHD Razor?

Formulated as a dietary supplement aimed squarely at weight loss, SuperHD Razor claims to provide fat reducing results without the use of added stimulants. The ingredients not only cut fat cells in the body, but also promise to help preserve lean muscle mass and control hunger as well.

The creators of the product, Cellucor, state that the product has been designed to work either as a standalone weight loss aid or in conjunction with some of the company’s other dietary supplements.

Specifically related to SuperHD Razor, Cellucor claims it provides a tangible boost to your weekly workout regimen, whether you are just starting out on your fitness journey, or you consider yourself a seasoned veteran.

Cellucor recommends that users take one serving (two softgels) twice a day, and claims that best results can be achieved after a period of 12 consecutive weeks.

In order to evaluate the statements above, let’s first take an overarching look at the science behind weight loss.

The Science of Weight Loss

Put in simple terms, weight loss occurs whenever we burn more calories than we consume. Calories are found in most foods, and when we eat, our body uses these calories as fuel for our daily lives. The leftovers that are not used are stored by the body as fat.

According to the Mayo Clinic, one pound of fat is equal to about 3,500 calories. Following the example logically, then, you’d need to burn 3,500 more calories than you take in in a given week in order to lose that pound of fat.

Interestingly, the manufacturer claims that SuperHD Razor can decrease the number and size of fat cells present in the body. But outside of surgery, is this even possible?

According to a new study published in the scientific journal Nature.com, fat cell count remains constant throughout your adult life. So, while you can affect the size of these cells, (a crucial part of the process) the actual number of cells does not change, according to this data.

The foundational principles of weight loss state that there are variety of ways you could go about decreasing the size of your fat cells, from cutting out high-calorie, low-nutritional value foods to exercising more frequently in order to boost the number of calories you burn.

Of course, for some of us, the idea of a magic pill that could help us achieve our fat reduction goals is an incredibly enticing one. That’s where weight loss supplements like SuperHD Razor come into play.

Often, these products promise all sorts of miraculous fat burning benefits, but according to the Mayo Clinic, the best policy is to keep your expectations in check. At best, they state that they’re to be treated as tools to aid you in your weight loss journey, not replacements for balancing calorie intake with calorie burning.

Ultimately, a tool is only as good as its construction, though. So, in the next section, we’ll break down the individual ingredients within SuperHD Razor, taking a look at how they stack up against scientific fact and clinical data.

SuperHD Razor Formula Ingredients

According to the manufacturer, SuperHD Razor’s formula contains four ingredients that work together in order to give you the results described on the company’s website. These ingredients are:

  • Tonalin CLA
  • Synetrim CQ
  • Carnitine Tartrate
  • BioPerine

In order to determine just how effectively you might expect SuperHD Razor to perform, let’s take a deeper look at these ingredients, cross-referencing the manufacturer’s claims with established, authoritative voices in the health space such as WebMD and the Mayo Clinic.

Tonalin CLA

Starting off, Tonalin CLA is an exclusively licensed variant of CLA, or conjugated linoleic acid. During our investigatory research, we learned that this substance has been touted as a fat slasher for many years by various supplement manufacturers, and it also appears to be the main ingredient in several different weight loss pills within the broader industry.

According to reports from WebMD and Examine.com, although there is some clinical evidence showing that CLA helps users decrease body fat, this evidence is rendered inconclusive by the large degree of unreliability in the results. Most evidence is reported to show that CLA has no effect on fat mass, and sparse evidence has been reported that the substance actually increases this mass in some adults.

Synetrim CQ

Next up, we have Synetrim CQ. This is yet another licensed variation of a substance, this time one called cissus quadrangularis.

Cissus quadrangularis itself is reported by WebMD to have insufficient evidence to support its effectiveness at aiding weight loss. A few studies (like this one) have been conducted that may point to cissus quadrangularis’ potential for weight loss, but Examine.com mentions that more data is required to truly prove any sort of measurable effect.

As for the difference between this proprietary version and the base substance, the manufacturer did not provide any insight or additional information on the website as to why it and the Tonalin CLA mentioned above were used. We reached out to customer support, who told us that they were required to use the patented versions of these chemicals, but other than the name, customers shouldn’t expect any meaningful difference between the two.

Carnitine & BioPerine

Carnitine tartrate is an amino acid (the basic building blocks for proteins). Cellucor claims that the chemical not only speeds up fat metabolism but also speeds up post-workout recovery times as well. As it turns out, it is reported by Examine.com that carnitine does appear to have a fat reducing effect, but this might be limited to elderly individuals.

However, Examine.com also states that there is insufficient evidence supporting the substance’s connection to a reduction in exercise-induced fatigue.

Finally, we have BioPerine, an extract commonly derived from black pepper and long pepper. The makers of SuperHD Razor claim that BioPerine is included in the product’s formula in order to help the body absorb the nutrients found within the supplement.

As it turns out, studies like this one have shown that piperine (the base ingredient of BioPerine) is able to increase the bioavailability of Curcumin in the body.

However, while the manufacturer's website indicates that BioPerine has been clinically shown to increase the bioavailability of a variety of additional substances, including beta carotene, CoQ10, iron, resveratrol, and selenium, none of these trials were available for review at the time of our research. We also didn't encounter any clinical evidence on third-party sites.

Potential SuperHD Razor Side Effects

As with any nutritional supplement, using SuperHD Razor comes with the potential for side effects. For instance, WebMD lists that possible side effects of carnitine include nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, heartburn, diarrhea, and seizures. They also report that it can cause urine, breath, and sweat to have a "fishy" odor.

CLA is reported to have potential to cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, and fatigue. Finally, cissus quadrangularis has been shown to possibly cause effects such as headache, intestinal gas, dry mouth, diarrhea, and insomnia.

For all of these ingredients, no dosage information was reported in relation to the likelihood of these effects.

Now that we have a clearer picture of what is inside SuperHD Razor’s formulation, let’s look at how much the supplement will cost should you decide to give it a try.

SuperHD Razor Pricing & Returns

As of the time of this writing, SuperHD Razor was available both directly from the manufacturer as well as from local and online retailer GNC. We also found it offered via a number of affiliate websites.

Both Cellucor and GNC currently sell the supplement for $59.99 per bottle (112 capsules, a four-week supply). Shipping fees amount to $5 if you opt to go through Cellucor directly. GNC offers free 3-7 day shipping on all orders over $49, and also offers expedited options ranging from $9.99 to $14.99.

As for the return policy, Cellucor provides a 30-day, 100 percent satisfaction guarantee on all orders processed through their website. It’s important to note that this policy does not extend to any purchases made through any other third party dealers, though many of these have their own return policies instead.

For instance, GNC also offers a 30-day money back guarantee, minus any shipping and handling fees both upon receiving the product initially and returning it if you choose to do so.

SuperHD Razor vs. Other Weight Loss Supplements

Looking around online for terms such as “CLA weight loss supplement” or” stimulant-free weight loss aid,” you’ll quickly discover that there are hundreds of different formulations available both online and in stores.

While we didn’t come across any formulas that were completely identical to SuperHD Razor’s, we did find several supplements that included both CLA and carnitine, often among other ingredients such as green tea extract and garcinia cambogia.

These products tended to fall on the less expensive side of SuperHD Razor, with average pricing ranging from $15 to $25 and up for a single bottle (compared to $59.99 per bottle for the product in question).

When trying to decide which supplement to choose in a world of options, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed, or like you don’t even know where to begin. In general, you want to consider the following:

  • Does the supplement have any ratings online, and if so, how highly rated is it? Are customers expressing any common compliments or complaints?
  • Do the ingredients used within the supplement have clinical evidence backing up the manufacturer’s claims?
  • Does the price seem fair and competitive relative to other, similar options on the market?

Asking yourself these three questions alone can often put you in a better position to feel confident going into a potential purchase. In the case of SuperHD Razor, we already reported above that authoritative websites like WebMD and Examine.com showed a lack of conclusive evidence linking CLA, cissus quadrangularis, and carnitine to weight loss or hunger control.

In addition, the product sports a higher price than the majority of the other supplements we found during our research, including those that contained one or multiple of the same ingredients.

Finally, there was only one review posted for SuperHD Razor on the product’s main website as of the time of our research, and it was a one word entry that simply stated “awesome.” By contrast, the majority of the supplements we found on websites like Amazon.com featured numerous (and lengthier) customer reviews discussing their various aspects.

The Bottom Line

We have a few parting thoughts to consider if you are thinking about purchasing a dietary supplement geared toward weight loss.

On the one hand, Cellucor has been around for over 15 years, and based on their website, they offer a multitude of options ranging from pre and post-workout aids to protein supplements. However, relating to SuperHD Razor specifically, the inconclusive clinical data for the main ingredients used in the product’s formula (as reported by various authoritative sources above) is enough to give us pause.

This is especially true when coupled with the fact that other weight loss supplements, which featured many of the same effective ingredients found within SuperHD Razor, were available online for half the price of the product at hand.

But honestly, can any weight loss supplements be expected to perform better?

According to a Consumer Reports survey of 3,000 Americans, one in four adults have tried weight loss supplements, but of these, 90 percent found that they couldn’t lose the weight they wanted or keep it off for the long run.
