Formulated with a triple action compound, TruBioTrim is a probiotic-based supplement that promises “rapid, dramatic” fat and weight loss. By taking TruBioTrim regularly, the company claims you’ll also be able to reduce belly bloat, increase your metabolic rate, burn fat, support digestion, and have the energy you need to take on the day.
TruBioTrim’s manufacturer isn’t shy when claiming that their supplement is “the most amazing diet pill to come along in more than a decade”—and if it works exactly as they claim, we’d probably agree. But is TruBioTrim the real deal, or just another hyped up product with a steep price tag? We’ll tell you what we uncovered during our research.
Can Probiotics Help You Lose Weight?
Although they’ve been used for decades, probiotic supplements have become exceptionally popular over the last several years. Why?
In a nutshell, your digestive tract (i.e. gut) is filled with trillions of bacteria cells, which help aid in the digestion process, support immune response, and much more. Within this mix of bacteria, certain groups, or strains, could be considered “good” (they provide some of the benefits above), while others are considered “bad” (they may cause unwanted side effects like reduced digestion, decreased energy, bloating and gassiness, etc.).
In an otherwise healthy body, these bacteria maintain a generally even balance. However, after taking a round of antibiotics, undergoing excessive stress, eating a poor diet, and more, the bad bacteria can outnumber the good. The good news is that by taking a probiotic supplement, most of us can rebalance our gut flora within a couple weeks.
However, there is very little clinical evidence showing that any strain of probiotic can reliably help individuals lose weight (for an in-depth look at this, be sure to read Can Probiotics Help You Lose Weight?). Sure, probiotics could feasibly help you look slimmer by reducing bloating, but they won’t necessarily help you shed any pounds.
What about the specific strain and other ingredients found in TruBioTrim? Are they more effective?
Are TruBioTrim’s Ingredients Effective?
On the TruBioTrim website, we’re only told two pieces of information about the supplement’s ingredients:
- It’s a triple action compound, and
- The company has “combined a highly specialized probiotic strain with a clinically validated, energy-enhanced fat burner.”
Fortunately, we found a TruBioTrim label on GNC’s website, which shows the following ingredients:
Of these, sweet orange may help some individuals reduce cholesterol and prevent high blood pressure and stroke. Artichoke may be useful for indigestion and high cholesterol.
B. coagulans is a very popular bacteria strain found in probiotics, and it’s been found to be especially effective at treating antibiotic-induced diarrhea and providing immune system support. There isn’t enough clinical evidence showing that it can help you lose weight, though.
Finally, if you’ve ever had one too many cups of coffee, you know that the caffeine content can boost your heart rate and mental focus. While this boost might help you work a little harder at the gym (or even temporarily help reduce your appetite), in and of itself, caffeine won’t help you lose weight.
Outside of these, however, there isn’t enough evidence to say that any of TruBioTrim’s other ingredients can reliably provide any benefits, whether related to weight loss or something else altogether.
Will TruBioTrim Cause Any Side Effects?
While they might not necessarily be effective for weight loss, the good news is that TruBioTrim’s ingredients probably won’t cause anything worse than mild digestive upset.
However, WebMD notes the following for grapefruit: “If you take any medications, check with your healthcare provider before adding grapefruit to your diet or using it as a medicine. Grapefruit interacts with a long list of medications.”
Also, Chinese yam might have a mild estrogen-like effect, which could potentially interact with hormone replacement therapy and birth control pills.
How Much Does TruBioTrim Cost?
TruBioTrim is available in the following quantities:
- 1 Bottle: $59
- 3 Bottles: $118
All purchases come with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H. Important note: According to TruBioTrim’s Terms, “A valid proof of purchase is required for all returns.”
In order to request a refund, you’ll need to call customer service at 800-898-5153 and obtain an RMA.
A Quick Note About TruBioTrim’s Arbitration
Arbitration agreements are extraordinarily common in today’s marketplace, but it’s still important that you recognize what you’re getting yourself into.
Basically, TruBioTrim’s manufacturer stipulates that instead of taking the company to court or joining a class action lawsuit, you’ll have to attend binding arbitration proceedings, which tend to favor the company instead of the consumer.
Does TruBioTrim Have Good Online Customer Reviews?
Although TruBioTrim is sold through popular online retailers like Amazon and GNC, there weren’t any reviews for the supplement at the time of our research.
We did learn that TruBioTrim is manufactured by NiGen Biotech based out of Salt Lake City, UT, although the company didn’t have their own website and they weren’t listed with the Better Business Bureau.
It appears that NiGen also makes another supplement called The HCG Solution, which purports to be a hormone-free way of losing weight quickly. The supplement had a 4-star rating on GNC.com, with common compliments citing ease of use and effectiveness. Complaints revolved around failure to work, which is common for any supplement.
Granted, this isn’t necessary reflective of what you’ll experience with TruBioTrim.
Will TruBioTrim Help You Lose Weight?
Look, there’s little doubt that probiotics have the ability to help many of us boost our digestion, improve our immune response, reduce bloating, and more. But as we’ve learned here, there isn’t enough evidence to say that they can help anyone lose weight.
TruBioTrim claims their other ingredients can help you lose weight, too, but as we can see from the available evidence, this doesn’t seem to be the case, either.
So, what should you do? If you’re looking for a standalone probiotic, we’d recommend reading our in-depth Probiotics Buyer’s Guide. If you’re also looking to lose weight, we’d recommend talking with your doctor about more effective methods of losing weight and keeping it off for the long-term.
