About truVitaliti Dark Spot Correcting Formula

truVitaliti Dark Spot Correcting Formula is an anti-aging product that’s claimed to naturally reduce, reverse, and prevent dark age spots, whether on your face, hands, neck, or any other part of your body. truVitaliti’s Dark Spot Correcting Formula is even claimed to be so effective that it can potentially rewind the clock a whopping 20 years!

To achieve this effect, Dark Spot Formula contains something known as Mega C Kakadu Plum Complex. This formulation consists of Kakadu plum, which is claimed to contain 100X greater concentrations of vitamin C than oranges, along with lots of antioxidants, in addition to pearl essence, 3 other natural forms of vitamin C, bearberry and pine extracts, and a “potent” vitamin B3 blend.

According to the company, these powerful, all-natural ingredients have a synergistic effect that allows them to penetrate your cells and protect the deeper layers of your skin from harmful UV damage, target and inhibit pigment where dark spots begin, and stimulate new collagen to lift and firm skin. And all of this without the use of harmful chemicals.

As such, truVitaliti Dark Spot Formula is claimed to be a healthy, natural solution to beautiful skin that works on all skin types and can provide results after just one night of use.

Before we get into whether or not this is what you can realistically expect with Dark Spot Correcting Formula, let’s start from square one and learn more about age spots.

Common Causes of Age Spots

Dark spots, also known as age spots and liver spots, are changes in skin color thought to be due to UV exposure. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the medical community isn’t sure about all the causes of age spots, although age (e.g. those over 40) is certainly another factor.

Don’t you love when you get a nice, even tan? Well, that bronzing you see in the mirror is the result of melanin in your skin, which acts as a protective mechanism to block deeper skin layers from UV rays. In other words, a tan is actually the result of your body trying to protect itself.

With repeated UV exposure, this melanin can be produced in high concentrations in some areas of your skin, which then become the telltale signs of age spots.

And because age spots often appear in areas of our body most frequently exposed to sun, they tend to be more prevalent on the back of our hands, face, forearm, and shoulders.

Regardless of where they occur though, can Dark Spot Correcting Formula’s ingredients provide results, or just unfulfilled promises?

The Effectiveness of Dark Spot Formula’s Ingredients

The primary ingredients included in truVitaliti’s Dark Spot Formula are Kakadu plum, pearl essence, 3 other natural forms of vitamin C, bearberry and pine extracts, and a “potent” vitamin B3 blend.

As alluded to in the product’s video, the Australian Kakadu plum contains among the highest vitamin C levels in nature, which we’ll come back around to in a moment. Bearberry is a common ingredient found in cosmetics and skin lightening agents, although “there is no definitive scientific proof that the amounts may be enough to lighten a skin discoloration or change the appearance of the skin.”

While there’s no further explanation on the truVitaliti website, it appears that the pine extract it contains is also known as pycnogenol, which might have some antioxidant effects, although there remains insufficient clinical evidence proving this. And while pearl essence might sound expensive and exotic, the reality is that it’s actually “a translucent substance that occurs in the silvery scales of various fish (as herring) and is used in making artificial pearls, lacquers, and plastics,” as well as cosmetics.

Finally, vitamin B3 appears to be useful for treating a number of conditions, although lightening skin or otherwise addressing dark spots isn’t one of them.

Ultimately, this means that the primary active ingredient contained in Dark Spot Correcting Formula is vitamin C. But does it have any anti-aging benefits?

The Anti-Aging Benefits of Vitamin C

Surprisingly, vitamin C is noted as one of the most effective antioxidants for decreasing the effect of UV exposure on skin. However, WebMD also notes that “Creating a skin cream that carries a useful dose of vitamin C is difficult because it reacts immediately when exposed to oxygen. Several clinical trials examining more stable, effective formulations are currently under way.”

With this in mind, although the Kakadu plum contained in Dark Spot Formula contains high levels of vitamin C, most of this might not actually make it to your skin. On top of this, without a product label, we have no way of knowing exactly how much vitamin C it contains, or whether or not this is enough to provide you with any anti-aging benefits.

Alternative Methods of Preventing Age Spots

Alright, so there are a lot of unanswered questions remaining about Dark Spot Correcting Formula. But before you decide to risk your hard-earned money on giving it a try, are there any other methods you can use to treat and prevent age spots?

In short, yes. This includes the standard hydroquinone, although it can irritate skin, and there are even some concerns that it may cause cancer. Other options include topical Retinol, and glycolic or salicylic acid, as well as home remedies such as using lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, garlic, and more.

To prevent age spots from recurring (or occurring in the first place), you can change some of your lifestyle factors, including limiting exposure to sun, wearing plenty of sunscreen (more about this in the final section) or clothes that cover your skin, adding a protective film to your car’s windows, and more.

Should You Choose truVitaliti’s Dark Spot Formula?

We’ve reviewed several similar options here at HighYa, including Beverly Hills MD Dark Spot Corrector, City Dark Spot Corrector, and Genucel Dark Spot Corrector, which, based on their ingredients, seem to have about the same level of efficacy as Dark Spot Corrector Formula—in other words, minor at best.

Granted, the vitamin C contained in truVitaliti Dark Spot Formula might help protect your skin from the UV damage that leads to dark spots. But, do you know what else works? Sunscreen, and wearing comfortable clothes that cover your skin.

Considering this, as well as Dark Spot Formula’s relatively high price, we might recommend trying some less expensive, locally available lightening creams—and speaking with your dermatologist—before handing over your hard-earned money.
