About Twin Turbo Peeler

The Twin Turbo Peeler is an “As Seen on TV” kitchen tool that claims to feature twin action blades that peel in both directions, and just by flipping it over, can also be used as a slicer. Because of this, the Twin Turbo Peeler is claimed be twice as fast as ordinary peelers, and to be tough enough to slice through wood, yet gentle enough to peel a tomato.

Sure, you want to feed your family fresh food, but it’s admittedly a pain to peel and slice all those vegetables when there are so many faster options. With that said, can the Turbo Peeler really help you peel and slice vegetables and cheese, and even to grate chocolate? Or, are we just encountering a bunch of sales hype? Let’s peel away and the surface and find out.

How Does the Twin Turbo Peeler Claim to Work?

Using 100% stainless steel twin action blades that work in both directions, upward and downward, the Twin Turbo is a new kitchen tool that claims to make short work of any peeling job and to help you get the job done in half the time. In addition to peeling and slicing in seconds, the Turbo Peeler is also claimed to feature a super grip design that keeps your hand from slipping and potentially injuring yourself (see more about this in the final section), and to never break or become dull with use.

Turbo Peeler Pricing & Refund Policy

The Twin Turbo is priced at $10 plus $6.99 S&H. Like most “As Seen on TV” products, you’ll be required to purchase a second Turbo Peeler for an additional $6.99 S&H, bringing your total to $23.98. With your order, you’ll also receive a recipe book with more than 40 recipes designed specifically for your Twin Turbo Peeler.

The Turbo Peeler comes with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges. We’ll talk more about this shortly.

Important note: We also found the Twin Turbo Peeler for sale through Amazon.com, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart, and Overstock.com for less money, but by a company named Titan (see more about this in the following section).

How We Uncovered Customer Feedback About the Twin Turbo

The Turbo Peeler is a brand new product (URL registered at the end of August 2014), therefore there are no online customer reviews related to it.

However, although there was nothing on the website indicating who the Twin Turbo Peeler’s manufacturer is, we did some digging around and it appears to be manufactured by a company named Titan, who has been selling the Twin Turbo Peeler for several years under the name “Titan Peeler.” In fact, if you compare the Titan’s images with those on the Twin Turbo website, you’ll see that they’re identical.

With this in mind, there are numerous online customer reviews regarding the Titan Peeler/Turbo Peeler, which appear to be mixed. While some consumers appear to have been pleased with their purchase, some of the most common complaints related not so much to the kitchen tool itself, but toward the company who makes it. Common complaints cited unwarranted credit card charges, difficulty obtaining replacements for Peelers that had broken (remember the guarantee?), and poor customer service (numerous upsells during calls, difficulty speaking with a live person, difficulty processing a refund, etc.).

Regarding the Twin Turbo Peeler itself, Popular Mechanics briefly reviewed the product (again, under the Titan Peeler name) as far back as 2009, where they determined that it gets the job done, but “superior peelers can be bought for less.” News Station KFVS performed a fairly in-depth test of the kitchen tool around this same time as well, and found that while it does peel vegetables, it did not reduce overall prep time. And one participant cut her finger when using it after “looking away for a second.” Overall, the station gave it a C rating.

Can the Twin Turbo Peeler Peel & Slice Like it Claims?

We know we’ve thrown a lot of information at you, so what does it boil down to: Is the Turbo Peeler as great as it claims, or is it just a waste of your money? Keep the following in mind:

Common Attributes of “As Seen on TV” Products

Perhaps most importantly, remember that “As Seen on TV” products like the Twin Turbo Peeler typically have low customer satisfaction levels, due in no small part to reputations for not working as advertised and/or for being of low quality. While we didn’t encounter any customer reviews claiming that the peeler was low-quality, we did come across numerous that claimed it didn’t work all that well.

Racking Up the Shipping & Handling Charges

Another common attribute of most ASOTV products is high shipping and handling charges, and the Twin Turbo is no different. In fact, at $13.98, the Turbo Peeler’s S&H charges total more than the product itself. And when you consider that these charges are non-refundable, in addition to the money it will cost to ship it back to the manufacturer if you’re dissatisfied, it could quickly become expensive.

Do You Like Spam?

According to the Twin Turbo’s Privacy Policy, your information may be “shared with other reputable organizations to help them contact consumers for marketing purposes.” In other words, you can expected unwanted spam and/or phone calls from other companies who are trying to sell you their products.

Bottom line:

Even though you might only experience mediocre results, we’ve got to admit that the idea behind the Twin Turbo Peeler is tantalizing. However, if you’re thinking about purchasing the kitchen tool, we might recommend doing so through a third-party retailer in order to avoid high S&H costs and a frustrating customer service experience.
