    Quip Toothbrush

    Don't waste your money

    Overall Experience:

The fact that I spent money on this toothbrush is embarrassing. I fell for the hype. After two months of use, not only have I not seen any benefit, but my dentist has asked me to switch back to the brush I was using before.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Quip NYC Inc.

      Hi Jason,

We are sorry to hear Quip wasn't for you, although we can assure you that the Quip toothbrush would not have been the cause of any dental deterioration (especially if you only used it for 2 months between your 6-12 month visits, of which your previous brush would have been used for the majority). Dental issues can take 6-12 months to form/show, and toothbrushes aren't usually able to reverse any problems that have begun (hence the need for regular dental checkups) so it's hard to know what might have caused this.

As the ADA will tell you, toothbrushes are a key tool to help your daily brushing, but they themselves (whatever modes, price, power or design) do not vary in effectiveness. It is how they make you brush that drives effectiveness, so the best brush for you comes down to personal preference, comfort and how well a brush allows you to practice good technique, routine, and upkeep.

It is true that people tend to brush better with an electric toothbrush because of the movements encouraging slower, softer, and tooth-by-tooth technique. The timer guides a full, clean and fresher after brush feeling, it encourages a twice-daily routine. All brushes (including manual) should be used about the same way (tooth by tooth, gentle movement around gum line) and will give the same clean.

It sounds like, contrary to the design of Quip and the results it has given so many others in their checkups, Quips technique and routine guiding features could have for some reason driven you to brush worse. We would be interested in hearing from you on help@getquip.com to hear how using Quip changed your habits for the worse so we can help you out from our end.

But again, the best brush for you comes down to personal preference and we are sorry Quip was not yours, and even more sorry to hear you had a bad checkup!
