About VStream TV

VStream TV is a new streaming media player designed to seamlessly combine live TV and streaming entertainment across 1,000 channels, including more than 100,000 movies and TV shows, many of which are available in 1080p HD, as well as more than 500 global radio stations. In fact, according to the VStream TV video, you’ll have the ability to access any TV show ever made, the same night it airs, but without commercials.

Because of this, VStream TV claims to be “the most advanced streaming device available today” that can help you “cut the cord on cable.”

How Does VStream TV Claim to Work?

According to the company, VStream TV is user friendly, easy to set up, and straightforward to navigate. All you have to do is plug your VStream TV player into your TV using HDMI or RCA cables (the old-fashioned red, yellow, and white ones—although your picture quality won’t be as high), turn the device on, connect to your WiFi signal, and begin viewing the content.

VStream TV is claimed to come preloaded with all the apps you’ll need to get started, although more than 60 additional apps are claimed to be available for download if necessary. In addition, VStream TV players are claimed to work with any TV, and to feature a built-in antenna, network sharing capabilities, and SD/USB memory slots.

Here are the full technical specifications, taken directly from the VStream TV website:

  • AmAndroid 4.4 KitKat supports a Google browser, Flash10.2 and HTML5
  • AmLogic S805 Quad Core Cortex A5 1.5 GHz CPU + Quad Core Mali 450 GPU 600MHz+
  • SDRAM 1GB DDR3 and 8 GB Flash Memory
  • Support all standard SD/HD/UHD video output formats: 480i/p, 576i/p, 720p, 1080i/p. Ability to utilize USB mouse, keyboard operation and 2.4G QWERTY Remote 1.4 and AV output and Component(YPbPr) output that’s suitable for any TV and display.
  • Ethernet 10/100M RJ45 Port and internal WiFi. Ergonomically designed remote control makes operations simple and comfortable. MCU power on/off by remote control Miracast
  • USB2.0 Host 4(connect to USB devices) and SD/SDHC/MMC card reader. Android Video: Youtube, XBMC, Multilingual GUI Supported.

At this point, you’re probably all fired up to purchase a VStream TV player. After all, you’ve probably researched other players such as AppleTV, Roku, and ChromeCast, which don’t even come close to providing the same level of content. I mean, any movie ever made? Any TV show you want—even the same night that it airs? It almost sounds too good to be true.

And as it turns out, it just might be. Here’s why:

Content Costs Money

Have you ever wondered why it takes popular companies such as Netflix and Hulu Plus as long as they do long to release fresh content? Primarily because of licensing.

In other words, these companies have to form contracts with all the different networks and media outlets in order to bring you new content, for which they have to pay royalties (e.g. payments to the owners of the content) in order to be able to rebroadcast it. And as you can imagine, these contracts take a fair amount of time to formulate and put into action.

In the instance of VStream TV though, they’re claiming that with their media player, you’ll be able to access essentially every movie and TV show ever made, and will be able to access much of it as soon as it’s released or aired.

In our mind, this raises a huge red flag. Why? Because it means one of two things. Either:

  • VStream TV is paying hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties on a daily basis, or
  • They’re not paying for the rights to this content at all.

In other words, either VStream TV (as a company) has some very heavy financial backing, or they’re doing something illegal. We’ll come back around to this in a moment, but first: regardless of whether or not VStream TV is paying for their content, how are you accessing it?

Where Does VStream TV’s Content Come From?

Another big concern we have about VStream TV is where they host their content. This is because, as the name implies, VStream TV allows you to stream content to your media player, which means this content has to be hosted on a server somewhere.

And to this end, the company doesn’t provide any additional information. Are you pulling content directly from the company, from a cloud, or from a conglomeration of third-party servers? We simply don’t know, although we consider this important information that any reputable company would disclose. Again, we’ll talk more about this in the Reviews section below.

VStream TV’s Level of Professionalism

Next, if we’re being honest, the VStream TV website, videos, and overall presentation come across as “amateurish,” and much less polished than the competition. This gives us the impression that the company either doesn’t care about their public perception, or that their content was hastily created to get the product on the market as quickly as possible.

Admittedly, we can’t say if either of these are the case, although this speculation is based on our extensive experience reviewing products across dozens of genres.

The VStream TV / MLM Connection

Finally, it’s important to note that VStream TV players are primarily sold through independent distributors who earn commissions for each player they sell, as well as commissions for each player sold by other distributors in their downline. Ultimately, this setup is known as Multi-Level Marketing.

Often times, with the exception of industry staples such as Amway, MLM opportunities quickly come and go, as distributors hastily learn they’ll make much less money than may have initially been promised, and that these “opportunities” are often more about getting as many people in their downline as possible than they are about selling products.

While we’re not saying this is necessarily the case with VStream TV, it’s been our experience that most MLM companies don’t stick around for long, and customers are left holding the ball once they’re gone.

Where Are All the VStream Customers?

Speaking of customers, there was only one online review available for VStream TV at the time of our research, which was through BehindMLM. While you can read the in-depth review in its entirety, the author voiced many of our same concerns, and concluded by saying:

Uh, if I didn’t know any better, I’d suggest that all that’s happening here is the streaming of illegal torrents via a database StreamSmart themselves maintain. Either that or there’s some dubious cloud-based “restreaming” of existing legal stream services going on here. In any event, on the legitimacy front what StreamSmart present on their website isn’t very convincing.

Like it or not, distribution rights cover everything you see in the cinemas and on TV – somebody has to pay for those rights or you’re not watching a legal copy of the media in question. Approach with caution.

After this VStream TV review was posted, one commenter for noted that VStream TV is basically just a DIAOTEC box with an Android-based torrent player called Popcorn Time. This box retails for $60, and PopcornTime is free.

During our research, we also found another box with essentially the same specs called the MXIII M82 Amlogic.

With all of this said, the exact company behind VStream TV seems to be somewhat of a mystery, although a company named NXR Global was referenced on the product’s site. It appears this company also offers another MLM-based product named NXR Plus. Outside of this however, essentially zero information is available about the company online.

VStream TV Pricing & Refund Policy

There aren’t any prices provided on VStream TV’s website, although several third-party websites list the price at $349, without any additional monthly contracts or fees.

For this price, you’ll receive the VStream TV player, a remote, HDMI cable, and power cord.

According to the company, VStream TV comes with a 7-day refund policy and a 6-month warranty, although you’ll need to include all original packaging.

However, there aren’t any phone numbers provided for customer service or technical support. The company does claim to offer 24/7 support through live chat, but we were unable to locate a chat feature on any of the VStream TV websites.

Is VStream TV a Good Option for Cutting the Cord?

Chopping to the Point: If you made it through our entire VStream TV review, you might feel a little skittish about handing over your hard-earned money to a company that leaves so many questions unanswered, and we wouldn’t blame you.

From product pricing and content licensing, to server information and MLM opportunities, in our opinion, there are way too many red flags related to VStream TV to consider it a reputable option for streaming content to your television.

Instead, we’d recommend reading our Find Freedom by Cutting the Cord article, which will provide you with all the information you’ll need to start streaming quality content from reputable companies.

    Not worth the money

    • Carlisle, PA,
    • Jan 17, 2016

My VStream box stopped working after a couple of months. Now I can't even watch a movie, it continuously keeps stopping and I have to hit the bottom on the remote to play again, then it stops again. The box never did work 100%, most movies had no stream available. For $349 it is a piece of junk.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Great Product

    • MD,

It amazes me how a lot of these opinions sound biased and how negativity is always accepted so fast. I've had my box for three months now and seen 10 plus paper view events, no cable bill just WiFi bill. Anything dealing with the internet buffers when you have cheap Internet service. I watch TV when I don't want to miss anything. You can't use the box for one day and say it sucks. It's like any other hardware, like a phone you play with it first and learn it. OK, it's other streaming boxes for cheaper we know this just like there are cheaper shirts and cars, but consumers who want better quality pay more which couldn't be anyone's problem if they're not buying the box. I had several people come back to me asking where do I get the box after they bought the cheaper box. I have been able to watch and catch up on all my shows. If you can't find a movie or TV show you're looking in the wrong place or not using it right. My kids can watch only kid content and not have to worry about them looking at stuff they're not supposed to because I control my own TV. I don't need to make unnecessary trips when my family wants to have a movie night. It's something different and I understand people don't like change, but these past three months I kept a lot of change in my pocket. I was saving $125 every month just from cable bill, not including paper view and movie rentals. Most important my wife is happy with it, that's all that matters. I will keep updating because I was a victim of dogma once and it set me back. I refuse for it to happen to someone else. Thank you.

Wow really? I can do all of that for free with an app either on my phone or my Linux based PC. And again it cost me nothing for getting content just a Wi-Fi bill.

I can do anything this over priced POS can do for free and there's an app for all my devices and PC.

I ran out of trophies but I have a cookie I can give you. Everything you just said is allowed to be said. If you don't like the chocolate chip cookie then OK don't crumble it. I'm well aware people like different stuff. I enjoy my VStream TV2 and nothing can change my mind or stop me and I recommend this to anyone.

So how much do you think these bright boys paid to join their MLM? You can indeed have everything offered here for free online, yes it makes you a pirate but at least you're not letting other pirates profit from it. Scummy product at best and a felony crime at worse.

    It works great!

    • West Palm Beach, FL,

For those of you leaving negative feedback, your problem is more of following directions, and understanding the simple steps. It's very easy to work, I can't believe all the free stuff I can watch, and no, it's not illegal. The word here is "STREAMING". Everything streams through the internet today. Wendy Williams show had a box similar to ours, and was talking about the future of streaming TV due to the high cost of cable. So again, it's not legal. By the way, the box on the Wendy Williams show doesn't even come close to this box. We are saving $189.00 a month on cable, you do the math. Shame I didn't know this product was available sooner.

    Love my Vstream

    • Ohio,
    • Dec 30, 2015

I have had my Vstream 2 for a few months and couldn't be happier with the product. I can watch all my shows commercial free and a lot of movies. I had a problem with my keyboard not working and corporate sent me a new one the next day! I love a company that stands behind their product. The people complaining are just not educating themselves on how to use.

    Love It.

I have 4 VStream Media Centers that I purchased one at a time. I wanted to see if it was all they said it was. Every day for 3 weeks all I could say was WOW! I learned something new and exciting each day. No laws are being violated by streaming content to your TV for personal viewing. I encourage you, cut your cable and satellite bills by purchasing a VStream 2 Media Center, you'll be glad you did.

    This box is junk.

    • Pennsylvania,
    • Dec 17, 2015

The only people saying this media is great are the people who are hanging in by their teeth before they go under. I bought mine four months ago from a distributor who has since moved on. So what does that tell you people that are promoting this media box? I have had nothing but problems with mine and the content as far as the movies never change, it's pretty much the same ones. So where are the over 100,000 movies they market? And yes, the person who's review says the buffering is on just about every movie. Now I'm stuck with a box I paid $349 for and can't even sell it because I don't want them coming back to me saying this thing is junk.

So, have you really done your homework? I bet not. Have you updated the box? Which version is it? I would like to help you. Please send the box in to see if it needs repair. They would be happy to help you.

      essence

I do tech support for DirecTV, and I in no way know much about this box as I don't have one, I'm simply reading reviews to make an informed decision. However, I wanted to state this clearly because I handle these issues everyday. If you are having an issue with your movies/content BUFFERING, you need to contact your ISP, internet service provider. You simply do not have enough speed in your home to STREAM the movie. And if you have a fast speed, they need to check for LATENCY in the network/lines. That's not an equipment issue.

    VStream Is Great

    • Fort Worth, Texas,
    • Dec 16, 2015

I have been using VStream for 7 months, we love everything about it. The only buffering issues we were having were due to our internet service. Once we changed providers, our VStream experience has been great. So far we have saved over $1400.00 from FIRING our cable company. We would HIGHLY Recommend this product to everyone.

It's a complete waste of your money. 60% of the content does not even work on the box. This is just a scam. All the positive reviews on the "VStream box" have been by people who just want to sell you this crappy product to make money. Please for the love of god don't waste your money on this.

    Skip this one

After watching this service at a friend's home and having bad experiences with the streaming I decided to check it against other services online before buying. I don't think that it would be wise to spend enough money to purchase about 6 months of cable TV on a service that is illegal and therefore would likely be shut down before I even made my money back. I'll pass thank you.

    Scam

    • Oct 31, 2015

if you have any tech smarts at all you can buy the same or better box from eBay and install Kodi on it, and for alot less. After all, that's all they did. Please don't get hooked up with these scammers. They are all over the net trying to sell you a cheap box for a HUGE markup with free downloads you can do yourself.

This is a great piece of equipment.

These initial reviews are totally and completely off base. Out of all the media streaming companies out there, Vstream2 is the only one that lets you buy into the company and be a distributor. The technology is getting better and better every day. The technology is not going away either, cable companies and other providers better lower their prices or they will lose market share to these and other streaming providers. I have saved $50 in two weeks on media rentals. I don't even have cable anymore and I don't want it.
