About White Light Smile

Published on: Jul 5, 2016

White Light Smile’s teeth whitening kits promise to make a difference in your appearance, while helping you “get the beautiful smile you deserve”—without pain, discomfort, or expensive procedures.

In just days, the company claims that White Light Smile’s formula (which was worked on by 10 professionals) will help you achieve a brighter smile. This is why we’re told more than 1,000,000 customers to date have purchased one of their travel size kits.

The important question here is: Should you become White Light Smile’s newest customer, or are the other options you should consider? What kinds of results can you realistically expect to experience using this teeth whitening kit?

We’ll lay all the information on the line and leave it up to you to make an informed decision. With this in mind, let’s start with the basics.

Does White Light Smile Represent the “Future of Teeth Whitening”?

This is kind of a big deal: Nowhere on the White Light Smile website are we told exactly how the kit is supposed to work, including any ingredients it contains. Fortunately, we’ve reviewed dozens of online-only whitening systems in the past (more about this soon), and they all tend to work pretty much the same way.

White Light Smile’s Whitening Agent

While you’ll find some whitening kits that use strips and pastes, White Light Smile features syringes filled with some kind of whitening agent. Although we can’t know for sure what this is, most syringe-based agents contain around 22% carbamide peroxide. How does this work?

In a nutshell, carbamide peroxide, which typically comes in a paste or thick gel, converts into hydrogen peroxide once exposed to the surface of your teeth. Then, as it sits there, this hydrogen peroxide creates oxidation, which uses oxygen molecules to lift away stains from the surface of your teeth.

In the case of White Light Smile, this solution is added to rubber trays, which are then held in place for several minutes to allow plenty of time for the oxidation reaction to take place.

Coming up, we’ll talk about the results a carbamide peroxide whitening formula might deliver. First though, what’s up with that light?

White Light Smile’s Light Device

Have you ever walked by someone who was undergoing a teeth whitening procedure at your dentist? Outside the fact it might have looked like some kind of torture device, you probably noticed that a very bright light was shining on their teeth. What does that do?

These ultraviolet lights are intended to speed up the oxidation reaction we mentioned in the last section. Despite making things faster, however, there is little clinical evidence showing that these lights will improve your whitening results. Here’s how Ask the Dentist puts it:

“There is no proof that a UV light used by a dentist (during in-office whitening) speeds up the process of whitening or does a better job at whitening your teeth. In fact, it may harm the tooth and can damage your eyes, lips, and gums with UV rays.”

Clearly, White Light Smile’s LEDs (we’re not told how many) are much less powerful than lights used at your dentist, so whether or not they’ll help quicken the process remains to be seen. But you can rest assured that they’re likely not powerful enough to cause any damage or sensitivity.

How much will you pay for White Light Smile’s fuzzy ingredients and devices?

How Much Does White Light Smile Cost?

Each White Light Smile Pack contains the following:

  • 1x premium case
  • 4x 300ml whitening solution syringes
  • 2x Premium top/bottom teeth trays
  • 1x carrying case for teeth trays
  • 1x advanced whitening light

You can purchase these Packs individually or in groups (the more you buy the more you save):

  • 1 Pack: $116
  • 2 Packs: $199
  • 3 Packs: $237
  • 4 Packs: $276
  • 5 Packs: $345
  • 10 Packs: $500
  • 15 Packs: $675
  • 20 Packs: $800

All White Light Smile Packs come with a 30-day refund policy, which can be requested by contacting customer service at 844-548-5652 or support@whitelightsmile.com.

How do these prices compare to the competition?

Is White Light Smile the Only Teeth Whitening Kit Available?

You probably already know this, but there are literally hundreds of different at-home whitening kits on the market. In fact, they’re available at just about any retailer, so you might have even glanced at a few last weekend when grocery shopping.

Assuming all of these contain the same concentration of carbamide peroxide, they’ll all deliver similar whitening results (more next). The difference is in how they deliver their results, though.

For example, whitening pastes can be brushed on, providing very precise application and helping to ensure you don’t miss a spot. This precision can also help those with sensitive gums avoid causing pain.

On the other hand, brushing on a whitening solution can be very labor intensive, while gel-based trays (which is what White Light Smile appears to involve) can have you whitening in minutes. However, it’s also easy to dispense too much gel into these trays, which can spill over, touch the gums, and lead to sensitivity.

As you can see, the right at-home whitening solution depends largely on your needs. The good news is that your dentist can help you figure out which one is right for you, or you can hop on over to How to Choose an At-Home Teeth Whitening System That Works!

The biggest difference: Most of these whitening kits can be purchased locally for no more than $30, while a single White Light Smile kit can cost as much as $116! Given this price, what are customers saying about their experiences?

Are There Any Online Reviews for White Light Smile?

The HighYa team reviews many products as soon as they’re released, meaning there often isn’t any customer feedback during our research, and White Light Smile was no different. We did learn that these whitening kits are manufactured by Black Series, LLC, although the company wasn’t listed with the Better Business Bureau.

During our research, we uncovered a product named BrightWhite Smile, which appears to use an identical logo to White Light Smile. However, BrightWhite uses whitening pens, whereas White Light uses tray-based gel.

Ask yourself this: How could two different products feature the exact same logo? We’ll explain next.

The Recent Surge of Online-Only At-Home Whitening Kits

Over the past couple years, the HighYa team has watched as a steady stream of high-priced whitening kits have entered the market, including the likes of Whitening Coach, Spark Whitening, Action Pro White, and many more.

During this time, we’ve learned that many of these products feature similar websites with closely-related marketing angles, as well as identical pricing, leading us to believe that the same group of companies could be behind many of them. On top of this, most readers complain that they don’t work and will trap you in a never-ending cycle of recurring orders.

Pro tip: Do you know that it’s fairly easy start one of these businesses? All you have to do is purchase mass-produced products from overseas in bulk and at steep discounts (see this AliExpress listing as a quick example), and then re-sell them at massive markups.

Now, we’re definitely not saying any of this is going on with White Light Smile (they don’t appear to offer any kind of autoship program), but we want to make sure you have all the information before handing over your credit card number.

Let’s carry this thought over into the final section as we wrap things up.

What’s Our Opinion on White Light Smile?

Remember how we talked above about the oxidation action that occurs with at-home whitening formulas? Well, this only takes place on teeth’s surface (extrinsic). So, even if White Light Smile performed perfectly, if your stains are under the enamel surface (intrinsic), caused by the natural age process or from trauma, then it won’t do anything to whiten them.

But when the rubber meets the road, we don’t think the most important question concerning White Light Smile is how well it’ll work; it’s whether or not there are other options that could 1) provide very similar results, but 2) at a cheaper price. In other words, a solid value.

From this perspective, at $116 (unless you buy multiple kits at once—and why would you buy more than one completely unknown product from an equally unknown company?), you could purchase 3-4 kits from the competition for the same price as one White Light Smile kit. In our opinion, this might provide much more value for your hard-earned money.

    Beware!

    • Nashville, TN,

Be careful when you order because you are also signing up for refills every month that is charged to your account. You need to read the fine print with a very strong magnifying glass. Customer service is rude, and one representative hung up on me. They charge a 30% restocking fee if you try to return the refills you did not order. Arrrg! I am so mad at myself for getting scammed. I haven't noticed that my teeth are any whiter either. BEWARE!

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Unethical business practices

    • Concord, CA,

Someone needs to shut this company down.

They have very poor customer service, but what's worse, you get scammed into a membership, and it is impossible to cancel. Calling their customer service department is a waste of time because the representatives can barely speak English (by no fault of their own).

To the owners: How can you have a successful business with this type of customer service? Give your employees the tools they need to do their jobs, including English lessons if necessary. You should be ashamed of yourself; you are frauds.

    Remember, karma sucks.

    These people are thieves

I ordered from them in July of 2016. They took £108 ($134.85) plus an extra £11.23 ($14.02), which they told me was for shipping protection.

They sent me a shipping email with a useless tracking number, and they even admitted that they couldn't track my order. They said they would resend, but nothing has arrived. I emailed and asked what was happening, and they answered saying that they had canceled my order and would have no more contact with me, and they then blocked my email address.

But I'm not letting them get away with it. I have been told about the website ic3.gov, which is the Internet crime complaint center in America, and I think everyone who is a victim of this company should use it.

    Be aware of these scammers!

Be aware of this SHAMELESS company that is managed by scammers.

They offer free shipping, but then charge $12.95, plus an extra charge for taxes., which doubles the offer to $29.99. They don't respond to claim letters and pretend to have sent the product even if you cancel the order immediately.

    Be aware of these scammers!

    Total scam

I ordered a kit but keep getting additional charges on my credit card. There was a box to check if you did not want a membership, which I checked. The first charge was for $8.95, then every week since, there has been a charge for $1.98.

When I called to complain the person I spoke to said that it was a membership charge. I told him that I did not join any membership and wanted a refund on the charges. He claimed that there was nothing he could do, but said he would put a stop to any further charges. So what do I see yesterday but another charge on my credit card? Again I called and got told the same story. I told them that if there were any more charges on my card, I will report them.

I'm not sure where the place is located, but they all appear to be from India, judging by the accents. Buyer beware, total scam artists.

I ordered mine on 10/10/16, and when I emailed to ask where my shipment was, they replied with another order confirmation. I was unable to find the company online, so I informed my credit card company and started a claim to investigate their fraudulent activity.

Buried on page ten of their agreement is a "reship clause" where these scammers will fleece you for as much as you are willing to give up. Their product is cheap and lame, with their marketing being even worse. Avoid them!

    Don't buy this product

    • Brooksville, FL,

Ordered this product. I've used it a few times and I don't feel it made much of a difference. The worst part was a few months later I noticed on my bank account I was charged $8.95. I called the company and they didn't want to refund my money for a second box I never ordered. She offered to refund me 50% of the $8.95. What does that mean? I did not order a second box. I told her to refund the money and not to send me another box. Then she kept telling me how wonderful the product was, etc. I told her I didn't want any more product. I didn't even finish the first box. I asked to speak to a supervisor and finally she claimed she was going to refund my money. We will see what happens. 15 minutes wasted on the phone.

    Scam

Please be aware of this scam regardless whether or not the product works. Their latest ploy to deceive the consumer is to charge you $49.95 monthly after your initial investment for their kit. They will auto charge your credit card monthly without notice and will not stop unless you call and argue with them. My advice would be to try other methods instead of dealing with these scam artists. This is not good business practice and will continue unless others refrain from buying.
