What is 20 Minute White Smile?
20 Minute White Smile is a complete teeth whitening system that promises to deliver clinically proven, “dramatic” whitening results, without pain or sensitivity.
In fact, the manufacturer tells us that 20 Minute White Smile can whiten your teeth up to eight shades in just 20 minutes, over the following steps:
- Using the included swabs, apply the healthy vitamin E treatment to the surface of your teeth.
- Attach the pre-filled tray to the LED accelerator light.
- Insert the tray into your mouth and turn on the light.
Once in place, we’re told that 20 Minute White Smile’s oxygen action will deep clean by breaking up stains, while the LED light will speed up the whitening process.
This way, the manufacturer claims that 20 Minute White Smile’s “professional dentist technology” can help remove years of coffee, wine, and smoking stains in the comfort of your own home. And it’s FDA registered, too!
You’re probably here because 20 Minute White Smile’s commercial is intriguing. I mean, who wouldn’t want to whiten their teeth by up to eight shades in 20 minutes, without paying hundreds at their dentist?
But you also want to know if you’re getting your money’s worth. In other words, can you realistically expect 20 Minute White Smile to deliver on its promises? Are there other options? How can you get the most value?
Let’s begin answering these pressing questions by taking a look at some basics about teeth stains.
What Causes Teeth Stains?
In How to Choose an At-Home Teeth Whitening System That Works, we talked about the fact that, while your teeth might appear smooth and solid, the outer layer (called enamel) is actually filled with microscopic pits and ridges, as well as “pores.”
When small particles of certain substances like highly acidic or starchy foods, tobacco, and more come into contact with these ridges and pits, they can become trapped and build up over time, leading to increasingly visible discoloration.
However, these aren’t the only causes of teeth stains, which can also be the result of normal aging, genetics, certain diseases and medications (especially tetracycline), excessive fluoride, and more.
In addition, if stains make their way past the enamel and into the layer of dentin underneath (known as an intrinsic stains, versus extrinsic ones), this can also lead to additional staining.
Regardless of what causes teeth stains or where they’re located, how do at-home systems like 20 Minute White Smile brighten your teeth?
How Do Products Like 20 Minute White Smile Work?
Other than the vitamin E contained in the cotton swabs, we’re not told about any of the ingredients found in 20 Minute White Smile’s formulation.
The good news is that the HighYa team has reviewed many of the most popular over-the-counter whitening systems, most of which utilize 22% carbamide peroxide.
Pro tip: Keep in mind that some online whitening systems contain as much as 44% carbamide peroxide, so strengths can vary by a meaningful amount.
Nonetheless, once exposed to oxygen, carbamide peroxide breaks down into urea and hydrogen peroxide (10% carbamide peroxide translates into roughly 3.5% hydrogen peroxide).
From there, hydrogen peroxide oxidizes (this is the “oxygen action” referenced on the 20 Minute White Smile website), which is a chemical process that breaks apart surface stains and lifts them away. However, this oxidation process generally isn’t effective at removing sub-surface stains on dentin.
To summarize, the carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide found in at-home whitening systems work the same way, just in different strengths.
Outside of formula strength though, is there any clinical evidence that lights can speed up the whitening process or improve results? Let’s find out next.
Do LED Lights Improve Teeth Whitening Results?
Older dental technology used halogen lights during the whitening process, which often created a lot of heat and dehydrated patients’ teeth, sometimes leading to significant discomfort.
More recent technology, however, typically incorporates LED lighting, which avoids many of these pitfalls.
Regardless of the technology used though, there remains a lot of debate about just how much benefit these lights provide during the whitening process.
Specifically, one side of the argument claims that these lights speed up the oxidation process, while the other side typically notes that there’s largely insufficient clinical evidence supporting these claims.
For example, in a 2010 LiveScience article, the author wrote:
“... few studies have tested this theory to see what combinations of bleaches and wavelengths work best. A study published last month, in fact, in the Journal of Prosthodontics, found that light-activated and non-light-activated procedures did not differ significantly.”
That same year, an AskTheDentist response about the top 9 myths about tooth whitening included:
“There is no proof that a UV light used by a dentist (during in-office whitening) speeds up the process of whitening or does a better job at whitening your teeth. In fact, it may harm the tooth and can damage your eyes, lips, and gums with UV rays.”
What about the lights included with at-home kits like 20 Minute White Smile? Again, we’re told very little about the system’s specifications, so we can’t be sure how strong it is (remember this thought; we’ll talk more about strength shortly).
But even if professional in-office lights were proven to deliver crystal-clear benefits, the fact is that most of the lights in these at-home kits are far less powerful, so it’s reasonable to conclude that they wouldn’t necessarily deliver the same.
What about side effects?
Will You Experience Any Side Effects From 20 Minute White Smile?
According to the American Dental Association, the most common side effects caused by peroxide-based at-home whitening kits are “tooth sensitivity and occasional irritation of soft tissues in the mouth (oral mucosa), particularly the gums.”
And the stronger the whitening solution (the more carbamide or hydrogen peroxide) it contains, the more likely it is you’ll experience these side effects.
This is why, during in-office whitening treatments, your dentist will take extra care to keep the solution away from your gums.
Regardless, what will you pay for a 20 Minute White Smile system?
How Much Does 20 Minute White Smile Cost?
One 20 Minute White Smile kit is priced at $39.99 plus $7.99 S&H. For this price, it appears you’ll receive one pre-filled mouth tray, one attachable light, and two vitamin E swabs. As a bonus, you’ll also receive a free whitening pen.
All 20 Minute White Smile orders come with a 30-day full money back guarantee, less S&H. This means by the time you pay to ship your system back to the company, you could lose $10+ in S&H charges.

Are There Any Reviews Yet For 20 Minute White Smile?
To date, the HighYa team has investigated more than 750 ASOTV products. And because we often write about them soon after they’re released, they typically don’t have any customer feedback yet.
While this was also true for 20 Minute White Smile, the good news is that we’ve reviewed several other popular products from Inventel, the whitening system’s manufacturer, including DashCam Pro, Gripeez, HD Free TV Antenna, and many more.
Combined, HighYa readers had given these products an average rating of 2 stars at the time of our research. What did they have to say?
While a decent number of customers claimed to have had great experiences, overall, most complaints appeared to reference that these products didn’t work as advertised or didn’t last as long as expected.
Outside of their products, many customer complaints also referenced business-related issues, like long shipping times and less-than-awesome customer service.
Important note: Keep in mind that these are generally the most common complaints for all ASOTV products, not just those mentioned above from Inventel.
Will 20 Minute White Smile Deliver Value?
Is it possible that 20 Minute White Smile will help you get a whiter, brighter smile? If we’re to assume it contains the same peroxide-based solution as most other at-home whitening kits, we have no reason to think it won’t work to whiten your teeth.
But when it comes down to it, we think bigger question is, “What kind of value will 20 Minute White Smile will provide for the money?” Let’s take it step-by-step.
Important Unanswered Questions
When it comes down to it, none of HighYa’s staff tested 20 Minute White Smile firsthand, so we can’t provide any direct feedback about the results you might expect.
Another important consideration is that we’re not told exactly what ingredients are found in 20 Minute White Smile’s formulation, or in what strengths.
However, like any other consumer, we can take what we’ve learned here and come to a logical conclusion about 20 Minute White Smile, without having to hand over any money beforehand.
8 Shades In 20 Minutes? As Effective As Your Dentist?
Remember, the at-home whitening results you’ll ultimately experience don’t just depend on the ingredients and strengths found in these at-home formulations, but also the different substances, habits, and genetics that have led your specific stains—not to mention your original teeth shade.
With this said, according to WebMD, “Teeth whitening done by your dentist can get teeth brighter faster. The bleaching solution is usually much stronger than at-home kits.”
Even with these more powerful solutions though, the article goes on to note:
“The most dramatic results -- teeth generally get three to eight shades brighter -- usually take several 30- to 60-minute in-office visits,” although “some dentists use techniques that can be done in a single 2-hour appointment.”
What’s the point? We’re fully willing to admit that it’s possible for 20 Minute White Smile’s Solution to help someone whiten their teeth up to 8 shades in 20 minutes (remember, we’re not told what it contains and we didn’t test it ourselves).
But since WebMD reports that stronger, professional-grade dental whitening gels can’t even deliver these kinds of impressive, near-immediate results, we’ll remain dubious until consumer reviews start rolling in.
What About the Competition?
If you search online for “teeth whitening tray,” you’ll quickly learn that 20 Minute White Smile has a whole lot of competition, most of which appear priced between $20 and $40.
Most of these options come from national tooth care manufacturers who have been producing these kits for years, and who also provide a full ingredients list so you know exactly what you’re getting.
Additionally, many of these options are available at local retailers with teeth care or pharmacy sections, which could help you avoid the associated non-refundable S&H charges.
Another important factor is that many tray-based options are reusable, often providing enough whitening solution for anywhere between two and six applications.
On the other hand, by all appearances, 20 Minute White Smile is a single use product.
Our Bottom Line About 20 Minute White Smile
Remember, when it comes to 20 Minute White Smile, our goal here isn’t to point you one way or another. Instead, we’re simply using data pulled from authority websites to weigh important aspects like effectiveness and price.
From there, we can distill this information and assess 20 Minute White Smile’s comparative value. Where does this leave us?
With an unknown formulation, it’s all but impossible to realistically gauge what kinds of results to expect with 20 Minute White Smile, although most professional in-office treatments can’t whiten up to 8 shades in 20 minutes, as claimed by the manufacturer.
It is positive, however, that Inventel seems to stand behind 20 Minute White Smile with a 30-day refund policy. But if you request one, you’ll likely lose $10+ in non-refundable S&H changes, added to your return shipping costs.
Speaking of costs, 20 Minute White Smile appears to be a single-use system, whereas much of the tray-based competition can be used repeatedly and often come with slightly lower prices.
Considering these three main aspects, if it was our money (after all, we’re consumers too!), we might explore local options to maximize our value before placing an order for 20 Minute White Smile.
