About Ab Slim Flex
Billed as a 360° ab workout breakthrough,” the Ab Slim Flex fitness device claims to help you achieve “killer” abs, a toned, sexy body, and a “healthier you,” all in just 10 minutes per day. How?
Behind Ab Slim Flex is a flexible band (what the company calls Duo-Flex technology) where your back rests, which can provide different levels of resistance depending on the power bands you choose. According to the company, this technology provides resistance on the way up and on the way down, doubling your workout intensity, burning calories faster, and giving you better results in less time.
Ab Slim Flex’s Duo-Flex technology will also support your back while you work out, which can help prevent pain and injuries. Its rotating seat also provides a 360° workout for your obliques, and its compact, collapsible design makes it easy to store away.
Once you clear away all the marketing hype and take an informed look at Ab Slim Flex, does it really feature an “incredibly versatile and clever design”? Or, is it something that’ll be gathering dust in your closet a couple weeks from now? We’ll take a look at the important facts so you can make a more informed buying decision.
How Does Ab Slim Flex Work?
Although you won’t find the phrase anywhere on their website, Ab Slim Flex basically amounts to a sit up machine; i.e. a device that helps you perform sit ups.
Without machines like this, you’d typically place your feet under something sturdy, sit in a V-shape, clasp your hands behind your head, and slowly move your back toward the floor. Then, you’ll slowly return to the original V position.
When performed this way, sit ups can strengthen and tone your abdominal muscles. If you want to also work out a greater range of abdominal muscles (especially your obliques), you can elevate your legs and twist your torso.
Although sit ups can be very effective, they can also be painful, especially if you suffer from any kind of chronic back pain or other types of injuries. To this extent, will Ab Slim Flex help make sit ups less painful? Will it really provide results in less time?
Is Ab Slim Flex Effective for Shaping & Toning?
This question is a bit more nuanced than it initially seems, so let’s quickly break things down.
Muscle Building vs. Fat Loss
When it comes to abs, what’s the biggest difference between a professional fitness model and someone who’s 30 pounds overweight? Mostly, the presence of fat.
In other words, while working out can certainly help tighten and tone your abdominal muscles, if they’re covered in a layer of fat, you won’t be able to tell the difference.
So, if you’re looking to get a six pack, the first thing you need to do is address your diet. Then, by creating a calorie deficit and losing the fat around your midsection, your abs will “pop” more, making all your sit ups and crunches on the Ab Slim Flex worth the effort.
Pro tip: In your quest for washboard abs, make sure you don’t get caught up in any of the hype surrounding spot fat loss. It simply doesn’t work.
Will Ab Slim Flex Provide Resistance In Both Directions?
According to their commercial, Ab Slim Flex provides resistance in both directions (on the way down, as well as on the way back up), essentially doubling its effectiveness. However, we’d have to wonder if this is really the case. Why?
In the image below, do you see the straight orange lines underneath the back side of the arrow? This is where Ab Slim Flex’s Duo-Flex technology (read: 3 elastic bands that provide resistance) are attached.
Clearly, you can see that as your back applies pressure to the curved area on your way down, it will stretch the power bands, thereby creating resistance. On the flip side though, what happens when you sit back up and move into your starting V position?
That’s right! These bands will release their energy and provide you with assistance. In short, it seems that not only will Ab Slim Flex not provide resistance on the way back up, it might actually provide assistance—effectively only giving you half the workout.
Does Ab Slim Flex really provide resistance when moving down and up? Looking at the facts, this doesn’t appear to be the case.
Granted, this extra support might be worthwhile if you suffer from chronic back pain.
One last thing before moving on: The Ab Slim Flex commercial claims that you’ll burn calories faster using their device than with traditional sit ups, although they don’t provide any evidence (clinical or otherwise) to back this up.
Will 10 Minutes of Exercise Do the Job?
Finally, even if you’re already on a reduced calorie diet, and even if Ab Slim Flex does provide resistance in both directions, it’s important to point out that you probably won’t look like any of the models on their website by only working out 10 minutes per day. Instead, bodies like this can take countless hours of training and hard work.
Why do we mention this? Because it’s important to keep your expectations realistic ( we’ll talk more about this in the final section).
How much will you pay for Ab Slim Flex?
How Much Does Ab Slim Flex Cost?
Ab Slim Flex is available through two different purchasing options:
- A 30-day trial for $19.95, plus $29.95 S&H. Afterward, you’ll be billed three installments of $33, totaling $148.90
- One payment of $99, plus $19.95 S&H, totaling $118.95
Regardless of which option you choose, your order will also include:
- 3 sets of power bands (to help beginner, intermediate, and advanced users regulate their workout intensity)

All Ab Slim Flexes come with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges. Important note: This means you’ll immediately lose $29.95 (or $19.95 if you made a single payment order), plus whatever it’ll cost to ship the device back to the manufacturer. Based on its size (no weight listed), keep in might that this could amount to a decent chunk of change.
In order to request a refund, you’ll need to call Shop TV Products’ customer service department at 877-300-5499.
Will Ab Slim Flex Only Thin Your Wallet?
After reviewing hundreds of ASOTV products over the years, we think one thing’s pretty clear: It’s not necessarily a question of how well they’ll work (although this is always an important factor), but how much value you’ll get out of them.
For example, if you’re just getting back into fitness (or if you’re dipping your toe into the fitness waters for the first time), a basic sit up device like Ab Slim Flex might help get you moving. After all, it appears simple to use, its resistance can be adjusted, and its back rest might be ideal for preventing pain and discomfort.
On the other hand, if you’re even mildly fit and are looking for a boost in performance, Ab Slim Flex’s limited adjustability and resistance might not provide the challenge you’re searching for.
In either instance, it’s important that you talk with your doctor before beginning any new exercise regimen. Also, remember that you can start walking to improve your fitness, which probably won’t cost you a single penny!
