About Active Mind
Manufactured by Puritan’s Pride, Active Mind is claimed to be a revolutionary dietary supplement that can help increase focus, attention, mental clarity, and performance in as little as an hour. In order to accomplish this, Active Mind is claimed to contain scientifically backed ingredients (without artificial flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives), such as:
- Citicoline (Cytidine Diphosphate-choline) 1,000mg
- L-Theanine 100mg
- Caffeine (as Caffeine Anhydrous) 50mg
As such, the supplement’s manufacturer claims that Active Mind is “not hype, it’s science.”
But once you cut through all the marketing hype, can you realistically expect Active Mind to provide you with all the benefits it claims? Fortunately, that’s exactly what we specialize in here at HighYa. Consider the following:
What Exactly Does Active Mind Do?
On the surface, it may appear that Active Mind’s benefits are relatively straightforward, as it’s claimed to “support mental clarity by assisting with attention.”
However, if you stop and think about this claim, it’s actually very vague, and provides us with very little information to go on. After all, in terms of real-world, measurable benefits, what does “support” and “assist” actually translate to? While the manufacturer didn’t provide us with any clarification, we did find the answer elsewhere. Let’s take a look.
Are Active Mind’s Ingredients Clinically Proven to Work?
Compared to many other nootropic supplements we’ve reviewed here at HighYa, Active Mind features a slim list of just 3 ingredients. And according to WebMD:
- Citicoline is possibly effective for age-related memory problems, improving circulation in the brain, and even for helping with stroke recovery. The recommended daily dose is 1,000 to 2,000mg, so (although it’s on the lower end), Active Mind appears to be dosed appropriately.
- On the other hand, l-theanine has insufficient clinical evidence showing that it’s provides any type of brain benefits.
- Finally, keep in mind that while caffeine can certainly help temporarily improve mental alertness, in and of itself, it will not improve thinking in any way. On top of this, some users may experience a “crash” after ingesting caffeine. 250mg of caffeine is recommended per day to improve alertness, although Active Mind provides only 50mg. Note: Although this is a relatively low dose, you’ll want to be extra careful if you consume additional caffeine throughout the day, such as coffee or energy drinks.
Taken together, this means that at least 2 of Active Mind’s 3 ingredients have sufficient clinical evidence showing they provide some sort of specific brain benefits, although only 1 of these is related to the process of thinking.
Are Consumers in the Dark About Active Mind?
Active Mind appears to be a new product. As such, other than the testimonials found on the Active Mind website, there were no online customer reviews available at the time of our research.
With this said, Puritan’s Pride’s numerous others products (including Probiotic Acidophilus) seem to have evenly mixed online customer reputations, with many customers appearing to be pleased with their quality. However, it’s important to note that the top complaint for Puritan’s Pride products reference failure to work.
Puritan’s Pride isn’t rated with the Better Business Bureau, although they do have 75 closed complaints (as of 1/21/15). Most of these appear to reference poor customer service and/or difficulty receiving orders. While you may not necessarily experience this with your Active Mind order, it’s something to keep in mind nonetheless.
Active Mind Pricing & Refund Policy
Active Mind is only available directly through Puritan’s Pride and is priced at $19.95 plus $4.95 S&H.
Along with your order, you’ll also be enrolled in Puritan Pride’s autoship program, which means you’ll continue receiving a fresh supply of Active Mind once every 30 days and your credit card will be charged $39.95 plus $4.95 S&H each time.
Note: In our experience, free trials and autoship programs are intended to keep more of your hard-earned money, versus to provide you with any kind of convenience or any other benefits. As such, we often recommend avoiding products sold using these selling tactics.
On a positive note though, Active Mind comes with a 1-year refund policy, less S&H charges. In order to initiate the process, you’ll need to contact customer service at 800-214-9655.
Can Active Mind Support Mental Clarity & Attention?
Chopping to the Point: Considering that most of Active Mind’s ingredients have at least some clinical evidence showing they can either improve mental alertness or age-related memory problems, the supplement could potentially be beneficial if this is the cause of your cognitive issues.
However, keep in mind that if you need to return your bottle of Active Mind, Puritan’s Pride appears to have an online reputation for “rocky” customer service, In addition, you should always consult with your physician prior to beginning any new supplement, Active Mind or otherwise.

Giving it a try
I recently experienced aseptic infection that was life-threatening. Due to the rapid loss of blood flow to my brain, I had a slight brain swelling and short-term memory loss. The long-term effect seems to have affected my focus and short-term memory. I read up on Active Brain and decided to give it a try.
As others have noted in reviews, I did notice a difference of energy and alertness within an hour of taking my first dose. I intend to continue using this product and documenting the results.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
