Walmart Black Friday Shopping: What You Need to Know

Updated: 11/16/2016

In-Store Black Friday Sale begins: 11/24 6:00 pm
Online Black Friday Sale begins: 11/24 12:00 am

If you’re hoping to hit up Walmart for Black Friday sales, here’s what you need to know:

  • You can preview Walmart’s Black Friday advertisement by downloading their app, available on iTunes and Google Play.
  • If you plan on shopping sales in person, brick-and-mortar Walmart stores will open at 6 pm on Thanksgiving.
  • Stores will once again have wristbands (if you get there early enough) that will guarantee the availability of doorbuster deals in stores. And if they run out of merchandise, they still guarantee the price any time before Christmas, once it becomes available again.
  • Online shoppers will have access to the Black Friday sale starting all-day Thursday 11/24 at
  • Walmart Layaway is live from now until December 12, 2016. The service is in-stores only, and there is no opening fee required.

Starting Nov. 4, Walmart is deploying an army of Holiday Helpers to better serve customers in the checkout line.

Walmart’s Holiday Helpers will be in stores dedicated to helping customers get through the checkout process faster. Holiday Helpers, ready with candy canes and smiles, will assist customers with finding the shortest line, open registers as needed and will even quickly grab items customers might have forgotten.

During peak times, Walmart stores will increase the number of Holiday Helpers serving customers.

Additionally, the retailer has also dramatically increased the amount of products available through its Pickup service, adding tens of thousands of items in categories including apparel, seasonal décor, toys, and electronics for same-day Pickup.

To facilitate a faster and easier pickup experience, the retailer is allocating additional Pickup staff including dedicated Pickup managers in every store for the first time.

Pickup, especially same-day, is incredibly popular during the holiday season. During busy holiday shopping weeks, Walmart receives up to five times as many same-day pickup orders as compared to a normal week.

According to their chief merchandising officer, this year, the megastore will have more stuff for lower prices than ever before.

“I can’t remember another year when I’ve been this excited about the merchandise we are offering customers,” said Steve Bratspies, chief merchandising officer, Walmart U.S. “It’s not just about one category or one item. Our whole store is going to be stocked with new, exciting items from hot toys to new electronics available at the best prices.”
