About Beard Czar

Updated on: Jul 3, 2017

Whether you’ve got just a little stubble or a full on wizard thing happening, you don’t want just any beard; you want something that looks healthy, vibrant, and stylish.

To help you get there, Beard Czar claims their line of beard care and grooming products—for real, powerful men, no less!—use natural ingredients to help you grow, style, and tend to your beard. This includes dietary supplements, oils, and eBooks that can help you get the information you need.

Beards are all the rage these days, and you’re ready to get in on the action. Unless you want to look like something out of the Stone Age though, you need the know-how and tools to do things right.

Will Beard Czar’s products get you there? That’s what we’ll explore in this review:

Beard Czar’s Product Lineup

Overall, Beard Czar offers four different products:

Facial Hair Complex

This specially formulated supplement contains a blend of essential vitamins that promise to stimulate dormant hair follicles, provide nourishment and hydration, and improve growth. The company claims Facial Hair Complex will also “nourish the dermal matrix,” which may improve beard quality.

To experience these benefits, you’ll have to use the complex daily along with a regular beard care routine.

Beard Oil

Compared to their supplements, Beard Czar’s Beard Oil contains argan oil, which might hydrate and nourish your hair from the outside in. This same tonic will also make your beard more manageable for styling, and can reduce fallout and itchiness.

Phytoceramides

Another of Beard Czar’s supplements, Phytoceramides may help improve “collagen build up” (we’ll come back around to this term shortly). This can also nourish the dermal matrix and improve skin health, leading to improved growth and a softer texture.

Beard Czar Beard Comb

Beard Czar’s Beard Comb uses wooden teeth to help keep your facial hair looking its best (and perhaps even stimulate circulation and promote growth), while sporting a beautiful design and finish.

For best results, the company recommends using their Beard Comb in combination with their Beard Oil.

Beard Czar’s eBook

Titled "Beard Czar Beard Care," this e-guide claims to cover various topics that can help you choose products for the best results, read about everyday tips to improve beard health, provide a list of styles, and more.

Sure, these products sound great, but what do authoritative websites convey about the science behind these claims? Let’s take them one-by-one.

Are the Ingredients In Beard Czar’s Products Effective?

Facial Hair Complex

According to the supplement label on Beard Czar’s website, Facial Hair Complex contains:

Most of these vitamins play important roles in our body, so if we’re deficient for some reason, this can certainly cause reduced hair quality. And if a vitamin deficiency is severe enough, it can even lead to hair loss.

However, the reality is that unless you’re deficient, according to the summaries of the available clinical evidence as reported by organizations like the Natural Medicines Database and websites like WebMD and Examine.com, there’s little evidence showing that any of these ingredients can meaningfully improve hair health—whether on your head or face.

On top of this, we wondered why the Complex included forskolin, garcinia cambogia, green coffee bean, and caralluma, since the limited evidence clinical evidence reported by these same sites indicated they might have an effect on weight, but not on hair growth.

Eelated Article: Everything You Need to Know About Hair Supplements.

Finally, based on the clinical evidence, Facial Hair Complex’s ingredients probably won’t cause any side effects. In fact, other than flushing from niacin, you might not experience anything worse than mild digestive upset.

Beard Oil

The only ingredient found in Beard Czar’s Beard Oil is Argania spinosa, also known as Moroccan Argan Oil. This substance has been used for generations to help maintain soft, smooth hair, since it contains high levels of vitamin F and omega-6 fatty acids.

Recently, it’s been touted as a miracle hair product by hundreds of different companies. But other than adding manageability (about as well as any other conditioner), these sites indicated there’s little evidence showing argan oil can boost hair growth.

Also, because of its conditioning properties, remember that if you use too much or leave it in too long, argan oil can give your beard a greasy appearance.

Phytoceramides

Unlike the Facial Complex, there wasn’t a label for Phytoceramides on the Beard Czar website. However, we’re told it contains:

Like Facial Complex, we didn’t encounter a meaningful amount of clinical evidence showing these ingredients can boost hair growth or result in "collagen build up," as claimed by Beard Czar's manufacturer.

How Much Do Beard Czar Products Cost?

Beard Czar products are priced as follows:

  • Facial Hair Complex: $89.99
  • Beard Oil: $24.99
  • Phytoceramides Supplement: $89.99
  • Beard Comb: $9.99
  • eBook: $1.95

There was also a Special Offer listed on the Beard Czar website. Basically, you’ll pay $4.95 S&H to obtain a full-size bottle of Facial Complex, which will start your 14-day trial. Then, once the trial ends, you’ll be billed the full price of $89.99.

You’ll also continue receiving monthly shipments of Facial Complex and charged $89.99 each time.

Beard Czar’s products come with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges, although this only applies to unopened, unused merchandise (more about this next). If you don’t feel like shipping it back to the manufacturer, you can incur a $19.95 service fee and keep the product.

In order to request a refund, cancel or trial, or stop your recurring shipments, customer service can be reached at 888-302-5686 or support@beardczar.com.

An Important Note About Arbitration

Arbitration is a way of settling disagreements without going to court. While this might sound pleasant, it means that you’re waiving most of your legal rights, including a trial by jury or joining a class action lawsuit.

Why’s this important? Because as soon as you place an order on the Beard Czar website, you’re automatically bound to an arbitration agreement.

What Can We Learn From Beard Czar Reviews?

Since writing our original review, nearly 30 HighYa readers had offered feedback about their Beard Czar experiences, giving the company an average rating of 1.3 stars. What was everyone saying?

In general, most customer complaints seemed related to difficulties with the trial, high prices, and less-than-stellar support experiences.

The only other online feedback we found for Beard Czar during our research was on an older Reddit thread, although quite a few readers had chimed in about their experience.

Almost universally, these users noted that the company’s products should be avoided. Why?

As on HighYa, most complained they were unknowingly charged $90 after signing up for a “free” trial, and then were met with unhelpful customer service reps who refused to process a refund. Multiple customers complained that it took a week just for the product to ship, leaving them with very little time before being charged full price.

If you find yourself in this situation, one reader offered some potentially helpful advice:

“Politely disagreed with the charges. Was told there was nothing they can do the charge is already through and since I opened the product there is nothing they will do. I mentioned filing in conciliation court and that I felt tricked. Suddenly I was offered a 30% refund, I expressed I was not happy with that. Suddenly it went to a 50%refund. I said I still was unhappy at a price of $45 and didn't want to pay it. I then said I would just be filing in court. Suddenly I qualified for a full refund somehow.”

Are There Other Products Competing With Beard Czar?

We mentioned in the beginning that beards are extraordinarily popular, and as a result, hundreds (perhaps even thousands) of companies have appeared to meet the demand for grooming products.

In addition to Beard Czar, we’ve even written about popular options like Beardbrand and Dollar Beard Club, while others include Kiehl’s, The Art of Shaving, Zeus Beard Products, Age of Beard, and countless other independent manufacturers.

Given all these options, how can you decide which is the best for you? Like any other personal grooming product, much of the decision rests on your needs and personal preferences.

Note: It’s not our intent to promote any of these brands, as we have no relationship with them. As consumers ourselves, we’re simply reporting what we found during our online research.

For example, if price is your number one factor, it might be difficult to outdo Beardbrand, where you could find oils for as little as $1/mo, balms for $6/mo, and vitamins for $19/mo. They also sold two wooden combs for as low as $5.

Even on the higher end of the spectrum, Kiehl’s and Art of Shaving’s oils were both $27. You could also purchase a complete maintenance set through the latter for $60 (included wash, conditioner, and oil).

Focused more on customer ratings? While all of these third-party options seemed to come with higher customer feedback, Kiehl’s seemed to have the highest rating at the time of our research.

What about product selection? Beard Czar only offered one beard oil scent (and no waxes or balms), while Zeus offered four of each.

Is Beard Czar an Emperor With No Clothes?

The long and short of it is that, while some might be more advantageous than others, authoritative websites like the Natural Medicines Database indicate that the ingredients found in Beard Czar’s supplements and oils don’t carry sufficient clinical evidence showing they can meaningfully boost hair growth or health.

Given this, along with their less-than-stellar overall feedback from customers, their (sometimes much) higher prices than other brands and formulations, along with their minimal selection, it seems like Beard Czar’s products might deliver less overall value than much of the competition.

These guys screwed me out of $180

Don't buy this product! It may work but they tricked me on the free trial. After 14 days they charged me for a 30 day subscription I didn't want. They took my money I needed to pay bills with and plus I had to order a new card. Stay away from this product.

    Scam!

If I could give 0 stars I would. This is a total scam. 2 different companies charged me 2 times for the same product. When I called the first number, they said they had no affiliation with the other. The second number I called confirmed they were associated with the previous company. When I expressed, I did not want this product they advised me they would not issue a refund. Same story with the other number I called. I only received one bottle of supplements, yet they claimed they had a confirmation for the second shipment, but that was a lie. I never received anything else.

When I called the first company back and after asking to speak to a manager, Deja informed me she could issue a 30% refund. I declined and still asked to talk to a manager. After further arguing, I asked again to speak to a manager and after a brief hold, she was able to "authorize" a 50% refund. I still declined and requested to talk to a manager. After another brief hold, I was told she was actually able to authorize a 100% refund. Before I could even ask for how much exactly that would be (because I was charged twice, $88.99 and $89.99), I received an email stating, I would be granted a refund of $88.99.

I threatened to take them to court if a refund was not issued. They said, “I should receive it within 5-30 business days”. We'll see if that actually happens. In the meantime, I will be calling my bank to let them know those charges were NOT authorized because they were not in fact authorized.

If your "terms and agreements" page is longer than car insurance documents, you're doing it wrong. Become a legitimate seller of a product and you MIGHT, just MAYBE would get a halfway decent review.

Unless you plan 100% on using this product monthly and not just doing the "free" trial, DO NOT BOTHER.

I planned on trying the free trial (which isn't stated very clearly that you WILL pay for the first bottle if you use it). I ordered it last night and canceled this morning. The website states that after 14 days you will begin being charged monthly, presumably for subsequent bottles; however, they do mean the "free" one as well.

Anyways, I read more and more last night and got more and more skeptical; concluding with someone from "USPS shipping department" calling to confirm details with me, including my credit card number. Too fishy for me.

So I called to cancel at which point I was given a ridiculous line of bs. Starting with “We'd like you to keep the first bottle and we'll only charge $45” to which I said “NO PERIOD” I got the “hold please” and then they informed they will cancel and there will just be a cancellation fee of $19.99 and I can keep the bottle.

I said, “There is no cancellation fee because I agreed to a free 14-day trial, this is day one. You'll cancel it and if I receive any charges whatsoever, I will take legal action”.

After a long hold again while they conferred, And then just said, “Thank you, sir, everything is canceled and there will be no further charges.”

Bottom line is, I don't think it's a scam per se, in that I'm sure the product is legitimate and may help some people accomplish what they intend to. However, their top priority is to get whatever amount of money they can out of you, even if it's hoping you'll give up and agree to a bogus cancellation fee. Just be careful and like I said, don't bother unless you're committed to keeping it.

I ordered their product and then noticed almost two weeks later that they started to randomly take money from my account. I would not trust these people with your card number, it appears that they're scamming people out of their money.

Full Refund (Using the tip from above)

I used the product for a couple days, (9-12 days) then noticed a $89.99 charge on my account. I immediately called into the customer service and was told there was nothing they could do and they hung up the phone on me. I was furious!

I Googled "Beard Czar scam" and this website popped up. Thank goodness for the review up above that gives a detailed explanation of the conversation regarding conciliation court, once I mentioned that I would be filing with a lawyer for conciliation court, the responses went from "we can't do anything, sorry" to "oh my goodness, let me see if you qualify for a discount today". It was exactly how it is stated above, they will offer you 30% initially, then 50%, and then 100% refund. Thanks for the review from above and no I would not recommend this product or company to any one ever.

I got this product to try through the 14-day trial, I received the package, but never got an email or notification I would be charged $89.99 after the 14 days.

They would not refund me after telling them that if I had known I would get charged the amount, I would not have tried the product at all. They should have sent an email or notified me I would be charged fully after I signed up for the trial. I do not recommend this product at all.

I purchased Beard Czar, and have been using it for just over 2 weeks, and it is absolutely the worst product I have ever used. It doesn't work plus it cost $90 for just one bottle of this product. And, they trick you with their subscription. If you don't cancel it within 14 days you get charged. I would never purchase this product if I were you. Please don't make the same mistake that I did. I hope you never fall for this scam. This is absolutely the biggest waste of money ever, and even when the page says it's free just pay shipping and handling, it's not. Beard czar is the worst and is only here to rip people off.

I found these guys on my Instagram feed. My assumption was that someone had done their homework and that this was a trust worthy company.

    I was wrong.

When I completed my (free) order I noticed that I had been charged an extra $35. I knew that was a red flag and so I decided to do the homework, Instagram obviously did not do.

It did not take long to realize the whole thing is super shady.

I called and canceled everything. When I asked the representative if I would be getting a full refund since the order had not even been shipped, she said no sorry we cannot do that and hung up.

My shock turned to anger really quick. I called back and the threatened legal action with another customer service rep.

Guess what? A full refund was issued. It was possible after all.

First of all, I call because of a $80.99 charge on my card and tried to dispute it and the customer service that I received was very nasty.

I then asked to speak to a manager and she said the manager follows the same guidelines as the associates. I ask again to speak to a manager and she then hung up the phone on me.

This is a rude company and I will not support their business again, and the product doesn't even work. I think it's a scam.

    DO NOT ORDER

You will be scammed. I ordered the "free trial" only to find out that in 14 days you will be charged almost $200 and there is no way to get a refund other than to take legal action. To make it even worse the product did not work at all for me but no one is willing to do anything for me other than tell me there is nothing they can do.
