About Bed Boost

If your old mattress is sagging uncomfortably, Bed Boost claims to be an air cushion that slides between your mattress and box spring, and simply by inflating using the attached pump, to lift and fill in dents. Because of this, Bed Boost claims to extend the life of your mattress and save you money.

In addition to filling in dents, Bed Boost can be placed at the foot of your mattress to raise your feet and reduce pressure on your back, or at the top of your mattress in order to raise your head and reduce snoring. Once in place, Bed Boost is claimed to remain where you put it, and to be durable enough to support up to 700 pounds. And by adding or removing air, Bed Boost claims to be a fully adjustable and customizable solution that contours to your shape and provides individualized comfort.

When it comes down to it, whether you’re a back, side, or stomach sleeper, or whether you’re 9 years old or 90, Bed Boost is claimed to help you “get the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had in your bed.”

Most professionals recommend replacing your mattress about every 10 years, so if the time has come but you don’t want to spend hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars, can Bed Boost provide a good compromise? Consider the following:

How Adjustable/Customizable is Bed Boost?

Although Bed Boost claims to be fully customizable, this only amounts to adding or removing air from the cushion. In essence, this means Bed Boost will either inflate enough to fully fill in your mattress’s dents, or it won’t. In either instance though, you’re still likely to notice a difference between the firmness of your mattress and your Bed Boost. Why? Let’s take a look.

Let’s Talk About Displacement

Regardless of how much air you choose to keep in your Bed Boost though (or how well it may smooth the appearance of your mattress), it still may not be as comfortable as the product’s commercial might make it seem, due to something known as displacement.

And as we mentioned in our Bed Renu review, we haven’t come across a website that explains the concept of displacement quite like this Amazon review: “This is displacement at it's basic level. It's a bunch of big pockets of low-pressure air. What would happen if you laid on a half-inflated inner tube? You'd sink in the middle and it would bulge around you. The same thing happens here. Just like your original mattress, this will sag wherever the weight of your body applies pressure, HOWEVER, the displaced air will also lift the places where there is no weight, creating the illusion of more sag, and NO support.”

Keep in Mind the Competition

Speaking of Bed Renu, you have a ton of options when it comes to improving mattress support or removing dents, including foam devices, wood slats, air bladders (like those used in Bed Boost), and even DIY mattress support options. Because of this, you’ll certainly want to explore all your options before making a purchase.

What Consumers Aren’t Saying About Bed Renu

Bed Renu was a very new product at the time of our research (URL registered December 2014) and didn’t have any online customer reviews available that could be used to gauge overall satisfaction levels.

However, we did learn that Bed Boost is manufactured by Ontel Products Corporation, who holds an A- rating with the BBB, despite having more than 230 closed complaints (as of 1/29/15). Most of these appear to revolve around products that don’t work as advertised, long shipping times, and upsells during the ordering process (whether online or over the phone). Granted, this doesn’t mean you’ll experience the same with Bed Boost, but it’s something to keep in mind nonetheless.

Bed Boost Pricing & Refund Policy

A single Bed Boost is priced at $19.99 plus $8.99 S&H, although you can order a second for an additional $8.99 S&H. Note: If you only want 1 Bed Boost, be sure to click on the drop down box on the ordering screen and change it to “Single Bed Boost.” Otherwise, the system will automatically default to the BOGO offer.

Bed Boost comes with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges. This means that if you purchase the BOGO offer and decide to return Bed Boost, you’ll immediately lose nearly $18 in S&H charges, plus whatever it’ll cost to send it back to the manufacturer. By the time everything is said and done, you could lose more in S&H charges than you’ll receive as a refund.

Will Bed Boost Provide Your Sagging Mattress the Support it Needs?

Chopping to the point: Although Bed Boost’s video makes it appear that it can instantly smooth dents in your mattress, just because it looks more comfortable doesn’t necessarily mean that it is. And like any other sleep solution, what one person finds comfortable another might find unbearable.

But if you do decide to roll the dice on Bed Boost, keep in mind that you’ll lose a ton of money in S&H charges if you’re not satisfied.

Bed Boost really worked great for the depression in my 8-year-old mattress. Perhaps my bed's sagging wasn't that bad because I didn't have to inflate the Bed Boost all that much and it was very easy to over-inflate. It smoothed out the sag and it became 100% better. Besides, I didn't have that much to lose since I found one at Ross for $2.99 less 10%.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

  • Relieved my night back pain

I received my Bed Boost within 2 weeks.

I had some trouble pumping it at fist. I have a tempurpedic that's not firm enough for my spinal stenosis.

I removed it from the bed and began pumping it 15 times. When it started to rise I put it under my mattress and finished pumping. I use three of them horizontally.

My back does not hurt when I turn in bed and when I get up.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

  • Been waiting 6 months for my order

I ordered Bed Boost in January and waited and waited so I called customer service 3 months ago and was told the order will take 3 more weeks and that it was on back order. I called today 6 months later and was told the same thing - it's on back order and it will be another 3 weeks. I canceled my order. The customer service rep was sweet and I feel bad that they will be taking all the flack from angry and disappointed customers for this bad company's practices. I didn't even want to give them the 1 star, but the review wouldn't go through without it, because 1 star is too good for this company.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
