Brainfinity is a fast-acting, extended release brain supplement that’s claimed to provide sharper mental clarity and focus, quicker thinking, easier learning ability, and boosted creativity. On top of this, Brainfinity is also claimed to offer deeper concentration, improved memory and verbal communication, and enhanced mood and sensory perception.
According to the company, Brainfinity works using a unique combination of 100% pure ingredients to increase blood flow and oxygenation to the brain, elevate the number of neurotransmitters, reduce free radical damage, and calm your nerves.
Despite this, Brainfinity claims to be non-toxic and completely safe; all you have to do is take 1 capsule each morning.
If you’re new to the world of nootropic supplements, you almost certainly have a lot of questions, the most pressing of which is: Will Brainfinity really “allow you to tap into your inner genius,” or is it just one big hoax?
Let’s begin by taking a brief look at how your brain works.
How Your Brain Processes Information
Your brain is an extraordinarily complex organ, although it basically uses an electrical neural network to code and store information, including memory, perception, and attention.
One of the primary components of this network consists of neurons, which are cells that transmit information between one another using specialized chemicals called neurotransmitters. Your brain uses up to 100 different types of neurotransmitters for communicating between neurons, although only 10 of these do most of the heavy lifting, including GABA, acetylcholine, dopamine, serotonin, and several others.
As we age, our brain loses some of its neural circuits, while many of the remaining ones change their form or structure, in addition to decreased neurotransmitter production by your body. As a result, you may experience small lapses in memory, such as forgetting a person’s name or where you left your keys, which is something known as mild cognitive impairment.
With all of this in mind, will Brainfinity’s ingredients help protect against this process? In the mean time, will they also boost your cognition?
A Closer Look at Brainfinity’s Ingredients
According to Brainfinity’s product label, the supplement contains the following ingredients:
- Microencapsulated Caffeine (Extended Release) 200mg
- Caffeine from Green Tea (Camelia Sinensis) Leaf Extract 50mg
- Glucuronolactone 150mg
- Microencapsulated Phenethylamine HCL 100mg
- Synephrine Caprylate 25mg
- Nettle Leaf Extract 25mg
- Niacin 20mg
- Vinpocetine 5mg
- Pausinystalia yohimbe bark extract (Yohimbine) 3mg
Stimulants such as caffeine and synephrine (otherwise known as bitter orange) excite the central nervous system, and have been shown to be effective for temporarily improving mental alertness. Niacin may be effective for preventing Alzheimer’s disease when obtained through food sources, but there is insufficient evidence showing that niacin supplementation (through a product like Brainfinity) can provide any of these benefits.
Also, vinpocetine may slightly increase thinking skills in Alzheimer’s patients, but it has not been shown to prevent dementia or provide any benefits for otherwise healthy brains.
Taken together, this means that, although some of Brainfinity’s ingredients might provide a mild cognitive effect (mostly through its stimulant content), they almost certainly won’t be as revolutionary as the manufacturer claims. This is a common scenario for most of the nootropic supplements we’ve reviewed here at HighYa (including Brain Storm Elite, Neuroflexyn, and Addium), which we also detailed in The Truth about Memory Supplements.
But will you experience any side effects with Brainfinity?
Brainfinity’s Side Effects
Overall, the most common side effects related to Brainfinity’s ingredients are digestive upset and headache.
However, Brainfinity’s stimulant content may be disconcerting for sensitive users, resulting in insomnia and increased heart rate and respiration. As such, the manufacturer recommends that it shouldn’t be taken within 8 hours of bedtime.
Most importantly, according to WebMD, “Bitter orange, particularly when taken with stimulants such as caffeine or caffeine-containing herbs, increases the risk for high blood pressure, fainting, heart attack, stroke, and other severe side effects.” As such, you’ll want to be especially careful.
Lastly, niacin may cause temporary flushing and redness in some individuals.
Given all this, are there any other ways of preventing cognitive decline?
How Else Can You Improve Your Brain’s Processing?
Outside of taking supplements like Brainfinity, there are a wide variety of things you can do to improve your memory, including regularly stimulating your brain through training exercises (such as Lumosity or Posit Science), exercising your body on a regular basis, getting plenty of sleep, being part of a social network, managing stress, and more.
Up to this point, we’ve talked a lot about Brainfinity as a supplement, but who makes it, and are they a reputable company?
Who Manufactures Brainfinity?
Brainfinity is manufactured by Execucore LLC. Outside of the Brainfinity website though, there wasn’t any information available about the company, and they weren’t listed with the Better Business Bureau at the time of our research.
However, since Brainfinity’s URL was registered in February 2015, Execucore doesn’t appear to have been in business for very long. In fact, it doesn’t even appear that the company has a phone number, which is what we’ll discuss next.
Brainfinity Pricing & Refund Policy
Brainfinity is available in 3 different purchasing options:
- 1 Bottle (30 capsules): $37.95
- 2 Bottles: $62.95
- 3 Bottles: $83.95
Regardless of the option you choose, your order will come with free shipping and a 90-day refund policy, less S&H charges.
Fortunately, you won’t be subjected to free trials or autoship programs after purchasing Brainfinity. Unfortunately though, there isn’t a phone number available for the company, so the only way to reach them is by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. In our opinion, this alone should raise a big red flag.
Can Brainfinity Improve Brain Function?
Given everything we’ve discussed here—the lukewarm efficacy of the ingredients, the potentially severe side effects, and the fact that we know next to nothing about the company—it’s our opinion that your money would be better spent speaking with your physician about any memory problems you might be experiencing instead of ordering Brainfinity.
