What Is Comfort Cube?

Published on: Mar 24, 2017

Whether you’re at work, in class, or at home, Comfort Cube is a lightweight, high-quality desk toy designed to help you focus, relax, and relieve stress. How? By allowing you to aim your attention at clicking, flipping, gliding, spinning, rolling—and just breathing.

At about 1.5 ounces and 1.3 inches on each side, Comfort Cube can be carried just about everywhere and is suitable for just about everyone, from school kids to adults.

If you’re here, you probably know that there are several other fidgeting devices like Comfort Cube on the market. But is it really the highest quality available, as claimed on the website? What else do you need to know before handing over your hard-earned money?

Here, we’ll help you learn key facts about Comfort Cube and its competition. In fact, that’s exactly where we’ll begin.

How Do Comfort Cube's Features Compare to Other Fidgeting Devices?

Overall, Comfort Cube offers the following fidget factors:

  • Click: Like five dots on a die, this side features three clicker buttons and two soft buttons.
  • Flip: A long, rectangular switch that moves back and forth quietly if used gently, but makes a more distinct sound when used quickly.
  • Roll: These three mechanical gears and a clickable ball promise to help satisfy your urge for rolling motions.
  • Spin: A rotating dial for a circular fidgeting motion.
  • Glide: Like a gaming joystick, this side provides 360° movement.
  • Breathe: Similar to worry stones, this side features a thumb-shaped indentation that can be rubbed for relaxation.

Is there anything like this? The short answer is: yes.

By all appearances, the original version was Fidget Cube, which came to us from Antsy Labs back in October 2016 via a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. This product was so popular that it earned nearly $6.5 million in about a month.

Although Comfort Cube still hasn’t been fully released as of this writing, a lot of consumers clearly have an interest in fidgeting devices like it. So much, in fact, that we’ve seen many other third-party brands enter the market with the same ‘Fidget Cube' name, including toyofmine, OMG, Tagital, and Collingup.

From a features perspective, most of these cube-based designs seem to deliver the same basic set of fidgeting options. In fact, Comfort Cube and its direct competition appear to offer identical fidgeting functionality.

However, there have also been some meaningfully different recent releases like Tristar’s Fidget Bit.

Compared to cubed options, Fidget Bit has a polygonal shape and provides alternative fidgeting functions like a chain, snap button, and spin bottom. However, it only provides a total of eight different fidgeting options, while most cube-based designs offer somewhere in the neighborhood of 14.

What about from a price perspective?

How Much Does Comfort Cube Cost?

How much you pay for Comfort Cube depends on how many you order:

  • 1 Pack: $29, plus $4.95 S&H
  • 2 Pack: $50
  • 3 Pack: $60

If you order two or more, you’ll get free US shipping.

According to the Terms and Conditions listed on Comfort Cube’s website, ALL SALES ARE FINAL. ALL refunds or warranty replacements will be subject to a 30% restocking fee. All shipping Fees Are Non-Refundable.”

We called customer support at 877-919-9286 for some clarification. The pleasant representative we spoke with confirmed that refunds are available within 30 days of purchase, less S&H charges and a 30% restocking fee.

To quickly put this in perspective, if you ordered one Comfort Cube and decided to process a refund, you’d lose more than $13 in S&H and restocking fees, plus whatever it would cost you to ship it back to the company.

Comparatively, you’ll find that much of the competition is priced somewhere between $8 and $17, in addition to shipping. At $29 for one, we can see that Comfort Cube is priced meaningfully higher, even before you factor in the potential 30% restocking fee if you’re dissatisfied.

Will Comfort Cube Provide a Lot of Focus For Your Money?

Granted, paying a higher price might be worthwhile if a product delivers real-world benefits, right?

The Comfort Cube website tells us that, “According to a new study, Fidgeting using certain objects can dramatically increase performance in students and at work.” Is there any truth to this?

Back in 2015, a study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that fidgeting “may reduce the risk of all-cause mortality associated with excessive sitting time.” In other words, fidgeting may help you live longer if you sit a lot.

Later, in 2016, fidgeting was implicated in strengthening heart health, as well as in boosting blood flow (specifically related to leg fidgeting), helping children with ADHD improve focus, and helping some perform better on memory tests.

Positive? Certainly. But it’s important to temper this information by noting that much of this fidgeting research is in its infancy, and there isn’t a large body of data to lean on—or to say that general fidgeting has a lot of reliable benefits for otherwise healthy individuals.

Also, we didn’t encounter any clinical evidence reported on authoritative websites during our research that specific fidgeting cubes and other devices (like Comfort Cube) could help improve focus, relaxation, and stress relief.

What’s the Bottom Line About Comfort Cube?

Without any online customer feedback and without testing it ourselves, it’s difficult to know exactly how Comfort Cube will perform once you have it in your hands.

But the fidgeting device has some steep (some might say, identical) competition, and at $29 plus $4.95 S&H, it’s currently the most expensive among them.

On top of this, if you’re not satisfied and decide to request a refund, you’ll have to pay to ship Comfort Cube back to the manufacturer (which is the case with most online purchases)—but you’ll also be responsible for paying a steep 30% restocking fee.

Here at HighYa, our ultimate goal is to help you achieve the most value for your money. After all, we’re consumers, too, and want to accomplish the same when we shop.

Considering these factors, along with its seemingly identical functionality as many of its competitors, we’re not sure that Comfort Cube represents a “stress relief solution reinvented,” as claimed on their site, or necessarily the highest value for the money.

These cubes are noisy. The children using them are bothersome to others. Research does NOT prove that this type of device helps focus and attention. Customer service is worthless. They kept referring me back to the website. They offered me a 10% then a 20% refund. Companies like this should be ashamed.

  • Overcharged

I ordered two for my grandsons with the price stating on the website of $11.40 a piece. I also ordered a silicon sleeve to protect the cube as the boys are elementary age with the price stated at $4.00 a piece with free shipping. There was no chance to review before the order went through. My order at the end stated for 2+1 it was $45.00 with the three sleeves $12.00, so total was $57.00. Not what I was expecting ($30.80). No chance to cancel the order. I hope this is worth the money.

I mistakenly ordered a cube package (I only wanted one single cube). I emailed the company on 3/30 at 1:16 pm, approximately 1 and a ½ hours after I originally placed my order. I received two separate emails back stating someone would be replying “asap.” The next email I received was an automated shipping email on 4/5 at 7:20 am stating that my order had been shipped.

Then on 4/5 at 8:22 am, I FINALLY received an email from the company replying to my original email from 3/30 stating that "orders are processed as soon as they are placed and my package was already processed for shipment." Why then does the 4/5 automated shipping email state: "your order 758A25A4AB is on its way, and can no longer be changed?" I tried to change my order! There were four business days between 3/30 and 4/5, what happened? Between the shipping email stating my order can no longer be changed and someone finally contacting me back “asap” stating orders are processed as soon as they are placed, these are contradictory statements and are confusing. I returned the entire unused order and paid for return postage myself (including my whole explanation in the return package as well).

On 5/2 I received an automated email stating my card was refunded $39.37. I emailed them asking where the rest of my money was. I received a response email the next day stating "your account was already refunded when you called in on 05/02. The amount has been refunded to your account is $39.37." I emailed them yet again with my explanation, and I would like $16.88 I'm still due and would like to speak with a supervisor. I'm done dealing with a crooked company but wanted to at least warn others.

Just as an update, I reported them to the Better Business Bureau. Better Business Bureau tried calling me numerous times to contact the credit card for a response. Nothing. They have a rating of "F" on Better Business Bureau's website.

    Disgusting

I ordered three for six and was charged for double my agreed amount. I was then told once the goods leave the office, there would be no refunds at all!

It is a disgusting abuse of business practices with no consideration for good ethics. There was no return label in the package, and now it's clear why; they charge much more than agreed and refund nothing!

    People with no good ethics!

    Ugh!

Why did I not read these reviews first?! I just received my ONE cube, along with a slip that shows I ordered three. My credit card was charged $60 for this ONE cube. I am not feeling very optimistic about getting any satisfaction from customer service when I call, but of course, will try anyway.

    Horrible customer service/company

I accidentally created an extra order. I immediately responded to their email asking to cancel. The email stated it would take 7 to 10 business days to ship. I then called the next morning (18 hours after the order was placed) and was told it was already shipped and I needed to call within 24 hours. After 30 minutes they agreed to cancel the order. I then got an email saying when I had called they had already canceled the order prior to the call.

Customer service obviously wasted my time and lied saying it had already shipped. I will never deal with this company again. There are plenty of other companies that make the same product.

    The worst

Do not order from this company. I wish that I had read these reviews prior. They are all right!

My credit card was charged more than it should, and immediately after the order went through, I emailed them twice only to get a reply a week later stating that "my order has shipped and that it's too late to change." The Comfort Cubes (two) that I received are cheaply made, fell apart on the first day, as well as a spinner that I ordered also broke.

This company is wrong, and if they keep it up, they will be dealing with some serious legal issues such as a class lawsuit. People who order these products do so to help with their various disorders and this company, at least in my situation, has exacerbated my issues, at least for a short period of time. I do not recommend them and will do all that I can to expose them for the scumbags they are. You would be a fool to order from these folks as I was when there are companies out there who sell the same products but do so with integrity.

This company is just flat wrong, and I hope more than ever that they go under and lose all that they have.

    Return refused

I purchased two Comfort Cubes in hopes that the cube would help me focus on some tasks I need to accomplish, but all it accomplished was to induce aggravation.

I called the company to request a return but was informed that I could not return them. The lady on the phone said I could give them away. Not so good customer service.

DO NOT waste your money. It is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. I will never use it. It will probably go into Christmas stockings in place of coal. The item makes no sense and is just another thing to suck in the buyer. I did not buy this, my husband did, and I have no idea why he did.

    Billing information

Comfort Cube needs to review their billing information page. I tried to have a Comfort Cube sent to someone, put in their shipping address and when it came to billing information nowhere on the billing site does it allow for name on the card. I have never heard of any company that does not ask for the name of the cardholder. Naturally, when I placed the order now, thinking that my name would be asked for eventually, the order was rejected, my credit card was closed and I had an enormous problem trying to contact the card company and get things straightened out. I sincerely hope the cube works better than their website.

    Don't buy from this company

As someone stated above. I ordered one cube and they charged me for five. I immediately wrote back customer service. They ignored my e-mail and sent them anyway. When I wrote them and told them I wanted to return, they said they would charge me a 30% return fee. Very dishonest company. Do not buy from them.
