About Crank Chop

With Crank Chop, you can easily chop many different types of food to make homemade salsas, healthy salads, fruit medleys, and even desserts! All you have to do is:

  1. Add your favorite ingredients.
  2. Pull Crank Chop’s cord, which spins the blades and chops your food in seconds. Each pull causes its 3 blades to chop your food 24 times, so the more you spin the more it chops.
  3. Enjoy the results!

Not only is Crank Chop easy to use, but it also features tough, durable construction, a compact, space-saving design, and is easy to clean. Simply place the blades and clear plastic base in the top shelf of your dishwasher, and you’re good to go!

Are you getting a sense of déjà vu? If so, this is probably because you’ve read these claims in the past for nearly identical products. Is there anything that differentiates Crank Chop from these other options? Is it worth your hard-earned money?

You’ve got questions, and HighYa’s here to help you find some answers. First up? Crank Chop’s competition.

Swimming in a Sea of Pull Choppers

Try this: Type “pull chopper,” “pull string chopper,” or “hand chopper” into your favorite search engine. What do you see? Hundreds and hundreds of options, including some from other ASOTV manufacturers, like Roto Chop and Zip Chopper.

Sure, some of these might not work using a pull string (many do), instead using a hand crank or downward force, but they all operate in the same basic fashion: energy is manually transferred to a shaft, which spins several attached blades. As these blades spin they shop your food, so the more spins you apply the finer your food becomes.

Compared to these other options? There doesn’t appear to be anything especially unique about Crank Chop that would warrant its fairly high price (more about this next).

In fact, these types of choppers are so popular that you can forego shopping online, and instead pay a visit to your nearest big box retailer or home goods store. This not only allows you to see the chopper before committing to a purchase, but could save you a ton of money in S&H charges if you’re not satisfied.

Let’s talk more about this next.

Is Crank Chop’s Price Worth It?

Crank Chop is priced at $19.95 plus $6.95. You’ll also be required to purchase a “bonus” food topper for an additional $6.95 S&H, bringing your total to $33.85.

Important note: According to Crank Chop’s FAQ, you can also upgrade to a Deluxe version for an additional $10, as well as rush delivery for another $10. For this, you’ll receive:

The upgraded Crank Chop is made with Japanese blades that will last longer and are more durable. The warranty is upgraded from 10 years to 15 years. You will also receive an extra slicing blade to put into the Food Topper for slicing.

However, neither of these options were available when we attempted to check out.

All Crank Chop’s come with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges. What’s this mean? If you want to process a return, you’ll probably lose as much in S&H charges as you’ll receive as a refund.

Nonetheless, if you’d still like to request a refund, you’ll need to call customer service at 844-826-2686.

Just who will you be calling, though?

The Company Behind Crank Chop

On their website, we’re not told anything about Crank Chop’s manufacturer—even their Privacy Policy doesn’t list a company name. We do know that the host of Crank Chop’s commercial, Vince Offer, also endorses another product named InVinceable, although there’s no way to be sure that both of these products come from the same manufacturer.

For what it’s worth though, based on 116 HighYa reader reviews, InVinceable had an average rating of just 1.5 stars (read: you’ll probably want to avoid). Why? Most complaints seemed to reference failure to work as advertised, poor quality, and high S&H charges. Granted, these are the same complaints you’ll find with most As Seen on TV products in general.

What about pull choppers from other manufacturers? Compared to ASOTV pull string choppers, most name brand models come with high marks from customers, who cite ease of use and good results as the most common compliments.

Will you experience the same with Crank Chop? With no customer feedback at the time of our research, it’s difficult to say. But regardless of how well it performs, is Crank Chop a solid value?

How Much Value Can You Expect from Crank Chop?

It all comes down to this: Even if Crank Chop performed flawlessly each and every time you used it, in our opinion, it’s difficult to justify the purchase. Why?

Even if you didn’t factor in Crank Chop’s high, non-refundable S&H charges, you’ll almost certainly be able to find nearly identical options from local retailers. This way, if you’re not satisfied with its performance, you can hop in your car and return or exchange it for another model that might be more to your liking.

And if you do factor in Crank Chop’s steep S&H fees, you’re now in a place where you’ll find small handheld electric choppers for about the same price!

Bottom line: Here at HighYa, we’re all about helping you get more bang-for-your buck. So when it comes to Crank Chop, we’d strongly recommend exploring all your options before handing over your money.

Crank Chop - works quite well but some caveats.

I saw the infomercial and then went to Amazon to check it out; it had gotten good reviews. I ordered through Amazon Prime (best price was about $22, no additional shipping).

I really like it, but there are a few caveats. It is easy to cut a finger when you remove the 3-blade center. Even though there is the stem, portions of the blade stick out (which I didn't notice, not that obvious), and my first experience out of the box was a cut finger (not a bad cut).

The second caveat is that if you don't hold the top down on the container (hold it together firmly on the countertop) and pull the string out quite far, the top can come flying off (no injury problem, but can be messy), and the centerpiece has to be put back on the portion that turns it (no big deal).

I saw others advertised, some with larger containers (best to use a 2-cup version as this is because you will have problems otherwise in having all the food pieces chopped or pureed). The thing is that this brand got consistent high reviews.

I am using mine daily, like another reviewer, however. I too never saw any way to get the deluxe version, which I'd prefer because the blades would probably last longer. If I find a way to get it, I will do so. I really don't want to be without one of these, and having a backup unit I feel is a good idea.

I also feel it would make a good gift, but I do wish there were a few improvements:

    1. A holder for the cutting unit so that you'd never have to touch it, even while cleaning, you have to be very careful.

    2. Tungsten blades for durability.

    3. A way to remove dull blades and replace them (like razor blades).

Another advantage would be a lock to keep the container closed while you're using the device so that the top won't fly off.

Having something like this which is NOT electric is my preference; I am also searching for the "perfect" grain grinder that will have both electric and manual modes (haven't seen anything good enough).

When we go on vacation I always have some cooking facilities in the motel rooms, and this is perfect to take along.

The main reason I went to Amazon to check it out was that most As Seen On TV items are junk and so I was hoping to see better alternatives provided. Again, as said above, this seemed to come out best.

I've used this every day since I've received it (five times).

I am a purist, so I do wish there was a version that offered a glass container and lid, or at least the container part. I can always transfer food to a glass jar after processing.

One last thing: you might have to experiment a bit about food placement before you start to pull the string as the blades need room in order to rotate. You'll catch on pretty quickly, however.

    Hope this helps.

Charged on my Visa yet no record of my order

I was charged on my Visa but did not receive my order confirmation. Several days later I contacted them through their customer service. What a joke. I got a runaround and talked to three different reps who stated they have no record of my order. I finally asked to talk to a supervisor, another joke. The same result, no record of my order, yet they charged it on my Visa card!

I think this is a scam and will be contacting my bank to reverse the charges on my Visa card. Also, the price went up without my authorization. From $19.95 US to $39.24 with all the hidden costs. I recommend people should believe that these As Seen On TV ads are nothing but scams. I will never by this crap online ever again.

Talk about slime marketing. This company should be banned from the airwaves. They advertise one thing, then their interactive voice prompt tries to rope you into all sorts of extras and will not let you go. Utterly frustrating and garbage. I will be pursuing complaints for false and misleading advertising. Do NOT buy this product!
