About Crispy Wave
Crispy Wave is a type of food wrap that claims to help you cook food like an in oven, including baking, browning, and crisping, but with the convenience of your microwave.
In order to accomplish this, Crispy Wave is claimed to transform microwaves into thermal energy for meat, chicken, pastries, desserts, popcorn, and more, that are never dried out or soggy, and are cooked to perfection. In fact, Crispy Oven is even claimed to cook frozen ribs, including sauce, in just 15 minutes.
With this said, Crispy Wave is claimed to work over 3 steps:
- Tear off a sheet of Crispy Wave.
- Wrap your food.
- Cook in the microwave.
At some point, you’ve almost certainly thought to yourself, “Why can’t I just cook this in the microwave?” After all, microwaving foods is much faster than using an oven, which can free up time to do those things you truly enjoy. But can you reasonably expect Crispy Wave to help you do this? Consider the following:
What’s the Idea Behind Crispy Wave?
In other words, how exactly does it transform microwaves into thermal rays? Unfortunately, the product’s website doesn’t provide any information about this, although taking a look at the pictures, Crispy Wave appears to be made of a material similar to thick wax paper, but with one darker side, similar to a dull metallic surface. It’s this side that is placed against your food, which might work similar to tinfoil to reflect heat.
With this said, microwaves typically cook food using something known as non-ionizing radiation, which heats all parts of the food simultaneously. However, this works by exciting water molecules, which can leave some foods dry or soggy. By introducing a wrap, such as Crispy Wave, you might be turning this radiation into conduction, which is the “transfer of heat between substances that are in direct contact with each other” (similar to tinfoil) or convection, which “occurs when warmer areas of a liquid or gas rise to cooler areas in the liquid or gas.” Without additional information about the product though, it’s impossible to say for sure which of these processes is occurring.
However Crispy Wave heats your food though, keep in mind that it’s likely still going to be better suited for foods traditionally cooked in a microwave.
How Pleased Are Customers with Their Crispy Wave Purchases?
In addition to lack of information on the product’s website, there also weren’t any online customer reviews about Crispy Wave at the time of our research, so we can’t know if it performs as well as it’s claimed in the commercial.
However, Crispy Wave is manufactured by Telebrands, a giant within the “As Seen on TV” industry who also makes Dump Cakes, Wow Cup, and Aqua Stone. Among these products, HighYa reviewers give an average rating of 2 stars, with some of the most common complaints citing failure to work as advertised, poor quality, and poor customer service (difficulty processing refunds, upsells during calls, etc.). While this doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll experience the same with Crispy Wave, it’s something to keep in mind nonetheless.
Crispy Wave Pricing & Refund Policy
Crispy Wave is priced at $10 plus $6.99 S&H. The product’s website also indicates you can purchase 10 Pop-a-Rounds for “fast, fresh popcorn” for an additional $6.99, although we weren’t presented with this option when attempting to check out.
Crispy Wave comes with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges, which means you could ultimately lose more in S&H charges than you’ll receive as a refund if you’re dissatisfied.
With this said, in order to process a refund you’ll need to contact customer service at 855-668-1655.
Can Crispy Wave Help You Spend Less Time Cooking?
Chopping to the Point: Considering the fact that there’s no indication of what material Crispy Wave is made from, how it works, or what other customers’ experiences have been with the microwave wrap, we might recommend seeing if there are similar options located at retailer near you. This way, you could save your self a ton of money in S&H charges if you’re dissatisfied.
