About Devonne By Demi

Hitting the shelves come December is Devonne, an all-new, all-natural skin care line designed and promoted by pop idol Demi Lovato.

Targeting her fan demographic, Demi’s product line aims to serve those “bridging the gap between the pimple years and the wrinkle years” and is inspired by Demi’s own favorite pampering treatments.

Background and Buzz

Chatting with talk show host Ellen in an interview to promote Devonne, Demi mentioned that her interest in natural skin care began early on by mixing homemade facial masks from kitchen ingredients.

The product line is a first for the 22 year old pop star, who is well known for promoting a positive self image to fans. Her efforts stem from personal struggles with an eating disorder and addiction, and go beyond lip service as she offers a helping hand to those struggling with mental health or drug addiction through her Lovato Treatment Scholarship.

Devonne implies that buyers can feel pretty inside and out, as a portion of each sale also benefits the Lovato Treatment Scholarship, although details on what percentage is donated with each purchase are not provided.

Understanding Devonne by Demi

The first thing you’ll notice about Demi’s three-product Devonne line is the pretty packaging: A matched set of lilac bottles display the Devonne brand name on labels, accented with pretty pale pink stripes. In other words, they’re perfectly designed for a young fan’s dressing table. The product line includes:

Deep Facial Cleanser with lavender and chamomile. The product claims to be calming and gentle on the skin, while still effectively removing “even heavy stage makeup.” Formulated with “a proprietary blend of botanical and marine extracts,” it also contains non-abrasive rice-derived exfoliants, hydrating apple for moisture, plus other “naturally derived ingredients.”

Hydrating Radiance Mist with sweet lemon and peppermint. This product is designed to boost moisture and “fade imperfections” for “naturally clear and radiant skin.” Devonne labels this product a “whenever refresher” for stressed out skin, and it can be used morning, noon or night.

3-in-1 Moisturizing Primer, also lemon and peppermint scented, claims to provide soothing moisture, a “skin perfecting primer,” and a skin-clearing treatment, all in one. The product description claims the primer delivers good moisture with a lightweight formula. It also contains mattifiers, which absorb oil throughout the day and allow your makeup to slide on easier.

Reading the Label

Devonne lists the botanical ingredients in their products alongside their reported effects. Here’s a quick look at what’s inside, and what each can actually do for your skin. Devonne includes:

Rice Extract for exfoliation and to assist cellular turnover. This checks out, as rice seeds have been used for thousands of years to relieve inflammation and soften skin. (Source)

“Traditionally, women in Japan have rubbed Rice Bran on their face to keep skin smooth and bright. Not limited to a beauty regimen of the upper class, female rice farmers used the water left over from cleaning white rice for bathing and washing their face to achieve smooth, luminous-looking skin.”

Reishi Mushroom Extract’s claim to promote clear skin is also supported. Fungi can actually help improve acne, rosacea and eczema due to their richness in vitamin D and peptides. (Source)

Apple Extract is included for moisture, and is a prominent ingredient in many products promising similar effects. From apple cider vinegar to fruit enzymes, the fruit extract is suggested as a topical treatment, even as a solo treatment based on information found on popular homeopathic blogs. (Source)

Licorice Root promises to even your skin tone, and is promoted by such health-conscious blogs as Livestrong for removing brown spots (source), while “laboratory studies have shown that glycyrrhizic acid reduces inflammation, soothes irritation and has antiviral and analgesic properties.” (Source)

Lavender Extract is a go-to for anyone who’s ever sought a soothing fragrance, and is well known for its relaxing properties that delight all your senses. (Source) Cucumbers are a proven home-remedy for puffy eyes and skin tightening. (Source)

“Cucumbers have high water content and a cooling quality, making them appropriate to help soothe mild burns, particularly sunburn. They can also reduce swelling and relieve minor skin irritations, reported a review published in the journal "Fitoterapia" in 2013.”

Additionally, all three products are sulfate and paraben free, and are claimed to be safe for all skin types.

Want To Buy Devonne?

Because the Devonne product line wasn’t yet available for purchase, there weren’t any online reviews to compare at the time of our research. Orders can be placed now, and delivery is set to start at some point before Christmas, though no exact date is give.

Ordering can be completed online, and consumers are given two purchasing options:

There is a one-time order of a complete DEVONNE by Demi Essentials kit. For a single payment of $39.95, the order includes:

  • A 3-piece skin care kit
  • A free cosmetic bag
  • A free Devonne Helps necklace

This order comes with a 60-day money back guarantee, less shipping and handling costs. However, when the 60 days begins (on the date your order is placed, or the date your package is received) is not stated.

Devonne also offers an auto-ship program for “convenient monthly delivery”, which promises everything the single-order offer includes, plus the “free surprise gifts in the future.”

This option is available for $29.95 a month, also with the opportunity to cancel at any time and return products within 60 days.

Consumers should note that while there are no reports of difficulty canceling with Devonne (as products have not yet shipped), many participants in auto-ship programs have experienced difficulty cancelling their enrollment and disputing monthly charges. Because of the problems that many auto-ship programs cause, HighYa considers them to be a red flag for consumers and suggests you use caution before signing up for one.

Bottom Line on Devonne by Demi

Devonne by Demi Essentials appears to provide a pleasant skin care experience for consumers who are looking for a new product line.

Benefits appear to be that there is substantial evidence that each of the ingredients to have positive effects on skin (however there is no way to know how it will affect your unique complexion without usage). Additionally, the product’s messaging is positive and appropriate for young consumers.

Important note: Those interested in purchasing Devonne due to the philanthropic benefits should be aware that no exact percentage of each purchase is stated.

Additionally, the autoship program may prove to be more of a hassle than a convenience for those who are not positive that they love this product enough to receive a new shipment once every 30 days.

    A plus product.

I suffer from both Eczema and Rosacea so finding a skin care product that doesn't dry out my skin or cause a flare up has always been a pain for me. When I heard Demi was releasing a skincare line I knew I had to buy it and support her, but I was skeptical about whether or not it would work on my skin.

To my pleasant surprise, not only did Demi's 3-step process work, but my skin is the healthiest it has ever been. Devonne by Demi is amazing. Not only does the product take care of my break outs, it leaves my skin feeling the softest and smoothest it has ever been! And it smells great too. I was absolutely sold the first day I used it. Such a great product. I definitely recommend it.

I don't usually write reviews but with this product I had to.

I've only used this product a little over a week and already see a difference in my skin. I have very dry and acne prone skin and have always used products with a lot of harsh chemicals. So when I read and realized how naturally based the product is, I was a little skeptical.

After the first two days, I noticed my face wasn't as dry as it normally is. Before using this product, I used to have to spray my face with a hydrating mist at least twice a day. Since using this product, I haven't had the need to spray through out the day. Also, my makeup last longer and I noticed a lot less creasing. Overall, I love the product and would recommend it!

    Break outs

    • May 29, 2015

I have a few breakouts occasionally and I bought this hoping it would help with those. I've been using this for about a month and I have been getting small pimples all over my face and it makes my face very oily.

I bought this product almost a month ago, and I haven't seen any changes in my skin. My forehead used to be completely clear but now I have tiny breakouts and my checks are acne prone and they still are. This product smells amazing and makes my skin soft, but it didn't unclog my pores or help with my acne. I'm disappointed and I tried to get my money back but I can't get a hold of costumer service.

    Not what I expected

I tried this product for about two weeks. It didn't irritate my skin, but it did make my skin super oily. I followed the instructions given for people that have oily skin, but skin was becoming very, very oily. The products does smell good but I wouldn't recommend it to people that have oily skin or acne prone skin.

    Good product

I've been enrolled in the auto ship since Devonne by Demi came out. My daughter loves the products. She has acne prone skin and while these products haven't completely cleared her skin, I can see a difference. The auto ship isn't exactly once a month, once got it a few days early, and more than once it was five weeks later. The supply they give you is more than enough for the entire month, so I wouldn't worry about running out. Each shipment comes with a free gift as well, which my daughter really likes. All the money goes to charity, and they are all natural products. I really don't think it's a scam. I think some of the products smell like frosting.
