Dinovite Review: Is It Worth It?

By HighYa Editorial Team

Updated on: Dec 5, 2019

Dinovite is a pet company that sells a variety of products, the most notable of which is its flagship line of pet foods and supplements.

The company’s food and supplements focus on providing complete health for your pet. Because of this, these pet-health products contain ingredients Dinovite claims can boost your pet’s overall health.

If you’re a pet owner looking for a comprehensive diet solution, then Dinovite’s ingredients mix could provide a solution that addresses your pet’s digestive system and overall health.

In our review, we’ll give you an overview of the company's products, focus on its supplement’s ingredients and their efficacy, then talk about the Dinovite’s pricing.

Dinovite’s Products

Dinovite sells hundreds of products on its website that you can classify in three groups: nutrition, pet care, and play.

The company’s nutrition products include its Dinovite dog, cat, and horse powdered supplements, “Lickochops” liquid omega fatty acids, “Supromega” fish oil pills and liquid, “Fidocal” calcium supplements for dogs, and “Nubonubs” freeze-dried dog treats.

Dinovite’s pet care products include “Dogosuds” essential oil shampoos, “Gentoclean” pet shampoo, iodine pet shampoo and “Nomoflea” flea spray.

Dinovite sells a variety of pet toys, too: balls, chew toys and cat feathers.

If you’re someone who wants to get all your pet products from a health-conscious company, then there’s a good chance Dinovite’s supplements and essential-oil shampoos will appeal to you.

Dinovite Supplement Ingredients, Efficacy, and Side Effects

Dinovite’s most popular product is its supplement powder. The powder is available for dogs, cats, and horses.

The supplement’s ingredients are slightly different for each animal but all three blends (dogs, cats, horses) contain the same mix of seven probiotics. Dinovite’s cat and dog supplements contain the same three enzymes, too.

Because Dinovite’s dog and cat supplements are more popular than the horse supplement, we’ll examine the scientific evidence for probiotics and enzymes.

The first thing to understand about Dintovite’s probiotics and enzymes is that the Association of American Feed Control Officials (pet food regulators) doesn’t consider probiotics and enzymes as essential nutrients in your dog or cat’s food.

What this means is that giving Dinovite to your pet isn’t essential to their daily health; it’s an added boost. Your dog or cat will most likely get all the nutrients it needs from the food you feed him or her.

That being said, it’s important to understand what effect (if any) Dinovite supplement ingredients can have on your pet.

Probiotic Blend

Dinovite’s dog, horse and cat supplement contain a mix of seven probiotics, which are good bacteria and yeast that help regulate your pet’s digestive health:

  • E. faecium
  • B. subtilis
  • B. licheniformis
  • L. acidophilus
  • B. pumilus
  • L. casei
  • B. thermophilum

The research into dog probiotics isn’t nearly as extensive as the research for probiotics use in humans. Therefore, there are only a few studies backing up Dinovite’s ingredients.

E. faecium may have the ability to improve your dog’s immune system if you feed it to your puppy from the time he or she is born up until one year of age.

L. acidophilus has the ability to strengthen your dog’s immune health, including boosting red and white blood cells and reducing the number of bad bacteria that can cause diarrhea.

B. subtilis and B. licheniformis might be able to reduce your dog’s bouts of diarrhea from about two days to one day.

If you don’t want to give your pet a prescription medication to stop diarrhea, it would be worth trying Dinovite because the research backing its diarrhea benefits used a relatively large sample size of dogs and used sound research techniques.

In general, the probiotics in Dinovite supplement powder can be of help at the right time. Your dog’s immune system can get a boost from E. faecium and L. acidophilus, especially if you start your pup on E. faecium after he or she is born.

Once your dog matures into adulthood, using this supplement can contribute to a stronger immune system and, in some cases, shorten a bout of diarrhea.

Beyond that, there isn’t specific evidence that this supplement’s probiotics can produce consistent, beneficial results for your healthy cats or horses.

For cats and horses dealing with diarrhea and gut issues resulting from stress, you may be able to help them with probiotics but there is no general veterinary consensus about dosages and the specific strains that can ease the symptoms.

Enzymes: Amylase, Protease, Lipase

The three enzymes in Dinovite’s dog and cat supplements are meant to help with digestion. However, there isn’t much research that indicates giving your pet enzymes is going to give them clear benefits in the short- or long-term.

Both PetMd and Tufts University’s veterinary department are straightforward in their conclusion that supplemental enzymes aren’t helpful for dogs with otherwise normal digestion.

“While many of these products may be advertised as if they are critical to your pet’s health and would provide many benefits, they are very unlikely to live up to the hype. Unfortunately, like many nutritional supplements, enzyme supplements for healthy pets are often a case where the science doesn’t support the marketing,” veterinarian Dr. Cailin Heinze wrote for Tufts University’s Cummings Veterinary Medical Center.

Dinovite’s enzymes could be helpful if your pet has a rare pancreatic disorder called exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. However, an otherwise healthy dog or cat probably won’t see any benefits.

Side Effects

The most common side effects your dog or cat will experience will be related to the probiotics in Dinovite. Symptoms tend to be gut-related: bloating, gas, diarrhea, and constipation.

Overall, they’re considered safe for dogs, cats, and horses.

Pricing and Return Policy

Dinovite’s health products range in price from $2.99 for a bag of Nubonubs dog treats to $349.99 for a 90-day supply of Dinovite horse food supplement.

The company’s pet care products range in price from $8.49 for Dogosuds and Gentoclean shampoos to $39.98 for a two-bottle bundle of Nomoflea flea spray.

Dinovite’s pet toys cost between $3.99 to $10.99.

All products sold on the website have a 90-day trial period, which means you can try them for 90 days to see if you like them. If you don’t, you can call Dinovite at (859) 428-1000 to start a return.

The phone rep will give you a return authorization number you’ll include in your return. Dinovite will not pay for your return shipping and you must include any unused or used products and packaging in your return.

This 90-day guarantee is only good on your first purchase. The guarantee is void for subsequent purchases.

Subsequent purchases are covered by a 30-day return period that applies to new, unopened items.

Key Takeaways from Customer Reviews

Customers who have used Dinovite’s various products give the company average ratings on HighYa and other review platforms.

Top Compliment: Dogs Stopped Itching

Many of the positive reviews we read talked about how effective Dinovite’s supplements, treats, and shampoos were in alleviating itching. While the reviewers didn’t specify why their dogs were itching in the first place, they emphasized how their dogs stopped itching.

Top Complaint: Dogs Experienced Side Effects

Many of the negative reviews we read indicated that the pet who took Dinovite products became sick after taking Dinovite’s supplements and treats.

There were multiple reports of dogs vomiting and having intestinal issues. While these may sound scary, they are within the realm of side effects for dogs taking probiotics.

The Bottom Line: Will Dinovite Products Benefit Your Pet?

For Dogs

As a supplement brand, we think that they’ve chosen ingredients (probiotics, enzymes) that have some scientific backing to suggest they'll help your dog boost his or her immune system at an early age.

We also think your dog will benefit from the supplement if he or she has occasional bouts of diarrhea that last a couple of days.

But because Dinovite is more than just a supplement company, it’s important to look at its entire lineup of products to understand if they can be a comprehensive resource for your pet.

If you prefer to use dog shampoos infused with essential oils, Dinovite is a good resource, as they provide three different types of oil-infused shampoos.

For Cats

If you’re a cat owner looking for a single brand selling a variety of options for cat care, you’ll find Dinovite pretty limiting. They offer one option for cat shampoo, a flea spray, a couple of cat toys and a hair remover.

When you consider that Dinovite’s supplement powder shows the best results for dogs, you may want to look for a bigger online pet marketplace like Chewy if you need a comprehensive solution for your cat’s health and care.

For Horses

Dinovite’s supplement is the only product they sell for horses. Therefore, we believe shopping on a horse-specific online marketplace is your best bet for finding a wide variety of food, health and horse-care options.

Dinovite Product for Cats

By Phred, Texas, Verified Reviewer

I purchased the Dinovite Cat Formula and Nomo Flea. The Fish Oil Supplement and Lick-O-Chops was thrown in for free along with some of the Nub-O-Nub chicken treats.

First off -- ALL these products were superb. I have two cats, one is 17 and the other not even 2 years old yet. The younger one actually ate the dry Dinovite powder out of the dish before I even had a chance to mix it with the wet food. The 17 year old did not seem to like it at first, but got used to a quarter dose in her food each day or two. Now her coat is now nicer, her skin clearer with fewer lingering bites and scans from fleas, she seems more healthy, she seems happier, more active and mobile than she has in years.

The flea treatment did not seem to work initially. The directions are a bit vague. But when I used it as recommended, pushed her fur forward and then applied it to key areas like around the neck and at the base of her tail, I noticed when flea combing her that the fleas and eggs were virtually ALL gone with 3-4 days.

My cats love these treats which are competitively priced, and they got used to the liquid supplements too over the following week or so.

So why would people have complaints at all if these products work so well? Here is what I think. What are companies in business to do? Make money, obviously. And how do they make it? By selling their product in greater volume. So I noticed when upping the dosage to one full scoop, my elderly cat's stool began to soften. Whether or not this was due to the supplement or her licking off the natural flea treatment I cannot say. BUT the bottom line is, for my cats at least, LESS of the product that the manufacturer recommends works better that the recommended dose.

Part of the reason cats get fleas is due to low vitamin levels. With the combination of the Dinovite supplement and their natural flea spray, my cats are both definitely more happy, healthy, and flea-free than ever before. This is Southern Texas, and down here the fleas can get BAD any time of year, but ESPECIALLY in summer when my shipment arrived.

That is my experience -- "less is more" with this stuff. The manufacturer may be recommending higher doses partly for the sake of moving more product. The price is not cheap for the supplements or the flea spray, but both definitely are outstanding products that perform better than any I have tried lately.

Comments from people who haven't used Dinovite.

By Nancy Lie-Winters , Carrollton, TX

I've used Dinovite for my little Maltese for about 4 years now. He is 10 years old and a fairly picky eater who wouldn't eat dry food ever. I bought hundreds of dollars of different foods and tubes of vitamin supplements to keep him healthy. He developed a tummy rash about five years ago and I was putting things like diaper rash cream, wound cleaner, etc. and it worked but I was afraid of him licking things like that. I tried Dinovite and while he is starting to show signs of slowing down for his age, he is smart, clear eyed, hears well, perky smart and alert. He loves the food I make for him but my security blanket is the Dinovite. The article from the man who never used Dinovite is rubbish. He contradicts all who gave testimonials but has nothing but acrimony for those of us who actually see differences in our pets. I signed on to re-order Dinovite and I bought three boxes last Christmas for my family members to use on their aging dogs. I would definitely recommend.

Dinovite for large dogs

By Karen Ford, Malakoff, Texas, Verified Reviewer

We have a 7 year old white lab. Very healthy as a rule and I have given her cod liver oil capsules for the last few years for extreme itching. It helped somewhat but she still rubbed up against the chainlink fence until she had grey all over her. And of course, all the other scratching of ears, etc. We had her at the vet several times and bought the steroid/antibiotic method and it would help for a few days but not worth the side affects of the steroids. We spent a lot of money on this.

I heard about Dinovite on the Christian station I listen to and thought many times about calling. Finally, I Googled them and almost backed out because of the price. However, I went ahead and ordered it for large dogs and I can honestly say that she is 80% better.

She still scratches a little but no more open sores and her coat is much better. She is about half way through the first box and I plan to keep her on this, especially during the hot, sweaty months, but probably all year and I will just look for coupons.

Great experience

By Ariel, Verified Reviewer

I am a veterinarian in South Florida. So we do encounter A LOT of skin problems, mostly allergy/atopy related. Lots of our clients were not willing to keep their pets on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication over and over. After an amazing improvement on Dinovite of one of our patients, who is a golden retriever with severe chronic skin allergies, I started recommending Dinovite as a trial for those who didn't want to go through the expensive skin allergy testing and I do see great improvement in most our patients on Dinovite.

Of course, as with any product, allergy to the product or no improvement may happen as described by consumers above. However, I read through their comments and most of them sound like misrepresented The review with the pomeranian and "severe" anaphylactic reaction to it that responded great to Benadryl is an absolute nonsense. As severe anaphylactic reaction would OBVIOUSLY not respond to oral Benadryl. Seems like most of the negative reviews are written by people with unrealistic expectations of magical cure for their pet's problem and seem like they actually have an underlying problem that has not been addressed and that Dinovite is not a magic cure for all skin issues.

Dinovite powder

By Jacqueline Pendergrass, Hickory, NC, Verified Reviewer

I have used the Dinovite powder on my dog's food now for about a month. I have a puggle (eight years old), a Chihuahua (seven years old), and a Chi-Jack Russell mix (one year old).

My Chihuahua has had skin issues since eight weeks old. I have paid hundreds of dollars in vet bills; he's had deep cleaning of the ears, testing for yeast, everything, and they give me a salve that never works and send us home. He is now seven years old. Last night I noticed his crusty ears are soft and supple, and his hair that was missing from scratching has grown back. The paws are not red, and hair is growing back there. The only patches he has left is on his chin and chest.

Not only is he happier, he plays like he did at eight weeks old. My two older boys are playing and running like puppies again. It's unbelievable the change in my fur babies. Plus, none of them will eat their food until I put the Dinovite powder in it.

You have a lifetime customer for sure!

Great results

By Tina Johnson, Chicago, IL, Verified Reviewer

I have a Maltese that was licking her paws constantly. I put some this on her food, and she instantly stopped the licking. I am very pleased with this product. I am concerned about the liver comment, and I will contact my vet and ask, but I have to tell you it's a miracle if you ask me.

Works for me!

By Skip Hahn, Orange, CA, Verified Reviewer

Cleared up my pug's skin, she was starting to get that black skin on her belly, which I have seen on others. I was just about to re-order when I could not believe the reviews I see. Although, I feed her baked chicken, shredded and infused with Dinovite every day.

Yes it DOES work!

By Melissa Archer, Houston, TX, Verified Reviewer

I do not understand the negative reviews. I guess some dogs are just very picky.

We ordered Dinovite along with Lickochops some time ago. The two combined have been a Godsend to our senior fur baby. Katypage was adopted/rescued four years ago. She came to us with severe ear infections, skin disease, allergies, matted fur, and just pitiful. She is a mini schnauzer. I cleaned her up, shaved her hair, would put oils on her skin but nothing got rid of the smell, kept her from chewing her paws, and her ears stayed infected even with antibiotics.

I was skeptical about another "product" saying it would fix things but I figured she was worth the investment. After one week, the odor from her skin was gone. After two to three weeks, the constant chewing and scratching stopped, and after a month, her skin and coat are very healthy, and now after two months, I'm only maintaining healthy ears (cleaning them one time a week). She even jumps on the sofa now! That was the most pleasant surprise! She is between 12-14 years of age and one day she scared me when she jumped up next to me on the sofa!

Thank you Dinovite for living up to the "hype" and doing all that you say you will do. If you have a picky eater, try mixing it with a little wet and dry food. I do believe the Lickochops helps as well with picky eaters. The oils are great for the skin/coat, and the flavor is something dogs crave. I know it may not work for everyone, but it DID and IS working for us!

Thank you Dinovite for giving me MORE quality time with my fur baby!

Worked very well

By In Nesbit, Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

My Shih Tzu was losing all of her hair and losing weight. Very concerned, I took her to the vet, which put her on prescription dog food. She was on this prescription food for several months, and she is still losing weight and almost all of her hair. Her tail looked like a string. Then a friend recommended Dinovite, so I thought I might as well try it, as nothing else was working. I thought I might lose my little dog since she was getting so skinny and hairless.

After about three weeks on Dinovite, her hair started growing. I was pleasantly surprised, and now she has been on Dinovite for about four months. She has gained all of her weight back, and hair is growing back in very nicely. She is full of energy now and looks like a different dog. The vet could not come up with a solution to her problem, but Dinovite has helped tremendously.

I highly recommend this product, based on my experience.

Saved my cat

By Rachael Ramirez, Texas, Verified Reviewer

I just want to thank y'all for making this product, Dinovite. Our Long Haired Russian Blue, Fuzz, is a geriatric cat, 18 years old. She gets seasonal allergy sores and threw up all the time. She was so skinny (3lbs) that the two steroid shots the vet gave her were so debilitating we couldn't put her through that again. I heard about Dinovite, and we thought, what could it hurt? She was already sick. This product changed her life.

I have read a lot of testimonials saying their cats do not take to Dinovite. From the first time we put it in her bowl, a little Lickochops, organic dry food (she can't eat wet, or she immediately vomits, we tried the Dinovite with it, to no avail), and she LOVED it. Scoop with a drizzle of Super Omega, dry food on top, drizzle of Lickochops, and she is in heaven. She gained weight (5 lbs now!), had less shedding, less vomiting, and no sores. Overall, a healthy 18-year-old cat!

We ran out of Dinovite last month (bad cat parents), and for the days before arrival, Fuzz literally threw her food out of the bowl looking for her Dinovite. We still had Super Omega and Lickochops, so we thought we could fool her. Alas, she lost weight, hairballs, vomiting, lethargy, and "I hate you looks." The minute she got her Dinovite back, the food bowl GONE!

Calmed his allergies

By Laura M., Texas, Verified Reviewer

It sure helped my dog! I rescued a hound dog off the side of a rural road. The vet wasn't sure of his age because his teeth were worn down from constantly chewing at himself. Poor thing was miserable all the time. Dinovite addressed his allergies and gave him complete relief!
