Forged receipt and made amount

By James F., Houston, TX, Verified Reviewer

I have been buying from Effy for years. Every cruise we go on I have bought at least one piece of jewelry over the last 20 or about years. I made the huge mistake of visiting the Effy store in Cozumel. When I returned home I received a bill for $10,000! A bracelet that is silver with a little gold and diamonds. It has taken six months to get a copy of a receipt, on which I never signed and is an obvious forgery. DON'T even go near an Effy store, run away. This is robbery, plain and simple. FRAUD.

Poor craftsmanship and repair service

By Brandy M., Portland, OR, Verified Reviewer

I purchased a ring through Macy's about 14 months ago. I had the ring for about 5 months when a couple of the stones fell out. My ring was sent off for repair to Effy and now less than a year later a couple of the stones they repaired have fallen out again. I purchased the ring thinking I was buying a quality product and now I will never purchase another Effy piece. I have never had to send a ring in for repair and now it needs repair twice. I have had my wedding ring twenty 25 years and have never had a loose or missing stone. Half the time I have had the ring it's been in the shop getting repaired.

Rhodolite ring stone fell out!

By Joyce K., Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I made a huge mistake purchasing many pieces from Effy at The Bay three months ago. While they look pretty at the first sight, the workmanship is horrible!

My rhodolite ring, which costs $2500, after only wearing it three times the main stone completely fell out and went missing. There is one smaller diamond stone missing on the side. I was shocked when I went home after dinner to see the ring in this state.

What was even worse, was the customer service. At first, I was told to bring it back to The Bay for repair, then I was told that if the center stone is missing it is not covered by their supposedly lifetime warranty. Then the Director of customer service with her extremely rude attitude told me that they might have to charge me for the repair because it is only my opinion that the stone has fallen out due to poor workmanship. I mean, REALLY? I have never owned any piece of jewelry or ring that the stones would fall out while newly purchased, not when they cost $15, nor $1500. Only Effy.

Garnet and diamond ring lousy!

By J Patrick F. , Houston, TX

I bought this garnet ring surrounded by small diamonds on our last cruise. I wore it once and one of the diamonds fell out. I have been trying to get my official receipts from the Effy store in Cozumel, but it's taken 5 months for them to arrive and that's only because of a dispute. I couldn't register any of my purchases! Terrible customer service from Effy on the International pier in Cozumel. I used really love my Effy jewelry but now they have really done a number on me. Shame on the manager and Effy corp has not helped at all. Extremely disappointed.

My first trip visiting the store aboard was good, the second not

By Cheryl P., Orlando, FL, Verified Reviewer

This is the second time I’ve been on board of the Mardi Gras carnival ship. The first time my jewelry experience was awesome, I spent almost $10,000, it was so good, lol. This time there was somebody new in charge, her name was Alayna, she was terrible.

In-person infomercial experience

By Jane B., United Kingdom, Verified Reviewer

If you're on a cruise ship with this store on board that has daily events (I.E. Celebrity Reflection), it is just an in-person infomercial with "random" people in the crowd that apparently have bought while on board and all modeling different pieces.

The overall idea of collecting charms each day is great, but the brand itself feels expensive for the quality.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Free daily mini charm

Gave a $200 voucher for a birthday on board with no conditions yet turn up and they stipulate all the rules

Received a voucher for complimentary necklace, which they advised is never stocked on board and have no alternative

Won the raffle and got another cheap charm collector necklace

Diamonds and stones falling out for everyone

By Debra K., Houston, TX, Verified Reviewer

Paid $5,000.00 for a ring. Quality was horrible. Diamond fell out 2 weeks after purchase (4 wears). Effy clearly has a quality control problem. Take notice of all of the reviews that mention (1) stones falling out, and (2) poor customer service. Take a look at Yelp!

I do not recommend Effy. I purchased from Macy's and returned the ring. They were reluctant to take the return because the tags were removed. Dah! I have another ring, got the certificate with my name completely butchered. Can’t get a response from customer service. So many issues.

Good luck getting it delivered. If you're allergic to your gift, you can't get a refund, they make you pick something else OVERPRICED. I feel guilty for hating them after my boyfriend was so sweet to want to get me something nice. We went through it for earrings, again for a ring, and today again for a necklace. I told him please never buy me anything from them again.

Clasp broke on bracelet, Saks purchase

By Melinda G. , Atlanta, GA

I was elated to purchase my first ever tennis bracelet in my life at age 43. My price tag was $1100.00. I put it on at my son’s apartment. The next day it was laying on the floor. I go back to the store to get it put in "correctly". Two days later the entire class broke off. Return processed efficiently. Thought to myself, what if it would have fallen off in public?

Worst quality

By Dena ., California, Verified Reviewer

Buyer beware! If I could give zero stars I would. I paid over $5,000 for a ring I saw on a cruise. I purchased it straight from their main site. Within 30 days I lost a stone and I wore the ring maybe 4 times. I took it to my jeweler and was told it was horrible quality and the stones were thin and they would continue to fall out because of the craftsmanship. I’m sick to my stomach. I wish I would have read reviews before so spent my money. I emailed the company and they said I couldn’t get a refund because it was over 39 days! What, really? So I spend $5,000, wear my ring maybe 4 times within 45 days and they won’t stand behind their product!

I will never buy anything from this company ever again and if I can keep one person from buying from them then this review was totally worth my time. I will continue to spread the word about this company and their quality. I will also tell prospective customers on my next cruises to stay far far away from this company! Go to a reputable jewerly who stands behind their product. EFFY is not that company. Save your money! Beware of this company!

Terrible Customer Service

By Katy, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I purchased a sapphire and diamond ring on a cruise and within two weeks of purchase one of the diamonds fell out. It took me a week of emails and voice mails to receive a response from Effy and they told me to insure it and courier it to them at my cost.

I emailed and left messages asking if they would reimburse the costs since the ring was only a few weeks old and they did not respond until I called the cruise line and complained. I then received a call from customer service and was told that Effy are not responsible for the cost and when I said that that since it was within two weeks of purchase, they must make poor quality jewelry, the customer service rep hung up on me. Do not purchase from Effy.

Quality and customer service are a big letdown!

By Dana Royalty, Lawrenceburg, KY, Verified Reviewer

On a cruise three weeks ago, my husband decided to spoil me and buy me a new diamond ring since I lost my engagement ring over ten years ago. We have been married 25 years this year, and he wanted to finally get me another ring. After hearing the jewelry shop workers boast about the amazing quality of Effy Jewelry, the lifetime warranty, and made in the USA brand, we purchased a ring valued at $2,995.

Just two weeks after getting home, I noticed a rough feel to the band of my 24 karats white gold band on my ring. Upon further inspection, I was shocked to see that it was broken completely into. I was shocked but remembered what the workers said about the amazing customer service. So, I called.

The lady did apologize as she told me it would take up to six weeks to fix. Okay, that stinks, but it is what it is. She then told me that I would get an email instructing me further. I was expecting a pre-paid shipping code, but instead, they tell ME that I need to pay for a certain shipping and insure the full value of the ring! Seriously?

I have owned this ring for three weeks, and it broke in half. They should have offered to take complete and total responsibility for anything involved in getting it repaired and back on my finger ASAP! I guess we disagree on what customer service should be.

Very poor organization and customer service.

By Dr. Terrence W Dunlop, Annapolis, MD, Verified Reviewer

On 02.27.17, while cruising on the Carnival Vista, I purchased an Effy white gold blue sapphire bracelet. The paperwork (a receipt and certificate of appraisal), provided on the night before debarking, turned out to be for another item purchased by another customer.

Upon returning home, I immediately called the Effy's customer service number and ended up speaking to a man who identified himself as "Rafi" and as a manager. When I explained the situation, he seemed not the least concerned about my situation and was more worried that I had another customer's information. In any event, he indicated that he would send the correct documents.

This was nine days ago, and I have as yet to receive the promised materials. I called again today at 3:00 PM, only to be told by "Jessie" that all managerial and supervisory personnel had gone home. When I asked her what I could do to resolve the matter, she indicated that I should write an email to the address on their website site. How about that for sparkling customer service?

Don't deal with Effy.

Disappointed

By Maria F., Cherry Hill, NJ, Verified Reviewer

I purchased a beautiful pair of gold and diamond earrings while on a cruise a couple of weeks ago. On the back of the receipt, it specifically states that should I find an identical product either in another Effy store or on their website for a lesser price, the difference would be refunded. Well, then I was told that they could issue a store credit, no refund. When I insisted, I was then told to send them details of the cruise, folio number, booking number, etc. and they would forward it to the cruise line, and then I would have to deal with their customer relations. The cruise line doesn’t agree since I paid Effy with my credit card and I totally agree with that. Apparently, Effy doesn’t care to stand behind their policies.

I bought a Russolite princess cut ring with several very small diamonds on the band on 9/1 on our cruise. Today on 9/6 I’ve noticed that one of the small diamonds is missing. I am very disappointed, to say the least, especially since having it for such a short time. I am still on vacation and leaving for home today and will call Effy when back. I hope that they stand behind their product as stated. Love the ring but disappointed as I said in the quality.

Counterfeit jewelry - Effy or Lord & Taylor?

By Alison V., Danbury, CT, Verified Reviewer

After emailing Effy that night, I received a phone call from an Effy employee the following morning who somehow was able to order the refund. She told me to return to L&T, and that I would be refunded. Luckily, this is exactly what took place (as I thought I was going to file a civil suit). While I do not know who was responsible for the fraudulence, I am so grateful that Effy trusted my word and refunded my money.

Sales process like 70's timeshare experience!

By Brian A., West Palm Beach, FL, Verified Reviewer

My girlfriend likes this brand and recently saw a ring she liked. As I am considering proposing this year I followed up and inquired on the same ring. The 'absolute best' price I was given was $500 higher than my girlfriend had told me she had been quoted an hour or so earlier. It took me several days to get hold of my girlfriend's phone, find the correspondence to double-check this, and send it to my e-mail all without her knowing. The e-mail to her stated she must order that day as 'there was only one left', and 'the price offered was part of an offer that had to end that day'. She was also offered a tanzanite bracelet and an EFFY scarf as a free gift. I e-mailed the representative and told him of this. He e-mailed me back and said he could still offer the price Vida had received but I would have to buy it that day, as he could now only offer the price from the 'sale' that expired a week ago, as it would 'expire again' in 1 day. He could not offer the bracelet anymore but 'might' be able to offer the scarf. I explained that I was about to leave for work and could not complete the purchase until 6pm that day. I then, at work, received an e-mail suggesting I should do it on my meal break as 'it would only take 5 mins, and the deal ended that day. This high pressure to push a sale of considerable price through quickly annoyed me, so I replied, truthfully, that I only got 30 mins for a break, had no WiFi, and was not about to rush such a purchase through like that. I then him and stated that as this was the case we would continue to look at other rings that we had seen in jewelers at the weekend.

Since that I have received an e-mail saying I could complete it at 6pm that day, then another saying we could do it the next day (it appears this deal can be extended into infinity), and guess what, there are 'several' gifts he can offer me now. Still only one of those rings left as well (yeah, right).

I have completely ignored the e-mails as this antiquated style of sales 'technique' belongs in a museum and clearly does not work with me, in fact, it has cost them the sale. There are lots of other jewelers out there and plenty more rings when the time is right.

I shall also bring my girlfriend's attention to all of the negative reviews I have now seen about EFFY. I am not sure she was aware of them and we had an issue with jewelry bought on a cruise from EFFY a couple of years ago, we put it down as a one-off, but it clearly isn't.

Length of Use: 2+ years

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Sales 'technique' akin to the old stereotypes of second hand car salesmen or timeshare sales from decades again, very transparent, unprofessional and off-putting.

Effy from Macy's

By Janet T., Springfield, IL, Verified Reviewer

I have several Effy rings purchased from Macy’s. I only purchase when the sales price is at 1/3 of the retail cost which happens fairly often. Still not certain it is a good buy but hopefully a fair buy at least. No rings worn daily so cannot attest to appearance and endurance after time. Quality does vary from rings.

Update

By Lisa H., South Carolina, Verified Reviewer

So, I read Effy's response and it is the same party line when I complained to Effy on the ship. But here's the thing. I told the saleswoman the price I got online from their own website and she said, "Wow, you got a really good price." So I said, "So how much would it be if I bought it here in your store?" She told me $3500. She did not even mention the matching.

Then I complained to the ship and they had the store manager call me. She said she called home office and told her to tell me the party line in Effy's response below. So here's what I'm very angry over.

First, she checked all their sales from the cruise for me and confirmed all were sold at the discounted price on the web. Then two days later on our last day at sea they announced a sale of 50% off. So I went in and asked to see a different necklace that she said was part of the sale. It was discounted to the same price on the web. That necklaces had been on sale on their website for many weeks at 50% off ($895). So if you do the math here, half off the current price would be about $450. But no, it was $895. So these people for the first day of the cruise were already being charged 50% off as they were matching the website's price. By posting a sign 8 days later about the sale was false advertising. Further price matching is usually against another retailer. I would have fully expected the jewelry to be the same price as their website.

So again, false advertising that they were having a big 50% off sale because it was the last day at sea when in fact the prices were unchanged from the first day at sea. Most people on the ship were elderly. They live on fixed incomes and are trying to enjoy the last years of their lives. Shame on you Effy for trying to deceive them out of their money!

Effy Jewelry

By Ann C., Washington, Verified Reviewer

About 3 years ago, I bought an Effy pave ruby ring. To match this, I also bought a ruby circle pendant from Macy's and matching ruby earrings while on a cruise last year from the Effy shop in Skagway, Alaska.

I took the ring to a local manufacturing jeweler in Perth and they valued it for 3 times what I paid for it. None of the small diamonds and rubies have fallen out of any of the items. And I was told by the jeweler that lead filling of stones was common practice.

I am very happy with my purchases and bought another pendant on board our recent Princess cruise. We were not questioned about our purchase by Customs so I am not sure what the other reviewer was talking about.

I gave myself a ring, pendant, and earings on an MSC cruise in October. I wear my ring every day and still look adoringly at it. It's the watercolor diamond and sapphire collection with 2 starfish.

Everyone in the Effy store on board the Armonia was great. I had more fun in the EFFY shop than anyplace else on the boat.

AMAZING QUALITY! Something for everyone.

By Liz, Verified Reviewer

Please be careful when reading this review. A lot of inaccuracies.

I am very concerned about anyone thinking this is legitimate, fact-checked review, as it has a lot of errors (grammatical and contextual - like misspelling the designers name), as well that its sources of personal blog posts (which, upon reading, have factual inaccuracies as well).

To start, it saddens me to read such negative things about Effy, as I have many Effy pieces and am thrilled with the quality (like so many, many others).

Let's just talk about this ruby business, as, again, the information here is not totally accurate:

Lead-Glass filled rubies were a common practices across the industry, due to the scarcity of larger, less included rubies, post the ban on trading with Burma, for many years. Please note that lead-glass filled rubies are indeed rubies, they simply have been enhanced (like getting a filling in your tooth - it's still a tooth!). As a July birthday girl, I have quite a collection of rubies, some Effy and some from other retailers. Some of my Effy pieces are genuine rubies (albeit, they are smaller stones), other Effy pieces are lead-glass filled, as I wanted larger "look-at-me" pieces. EVERY TIME I have purchased an Effy ruby, I have been informed whether it was LGF or genuine. It's also right on the tag.

Macy's received a class-action lawsuit because the sales associate failed to tell the customer that they were purchasing a LGF ruby. Again, it's written right on the tag. It's important to remember that these are hourly employees, and not jewelry professionals, so I'm not surprised this got missed.

I agree with the reviewers "bottom line" that you should ask questions. At the end of the day, you're buying a piece of fine jewelry - be knowledgeable. BUT I would love to see the sources that are actually being referenced here when he says "Effy may be beautiful in the short term, the issue argued by experts is that consumers are being sold inferior products at an inflated price" - what experts? Do tell.

Why that particularly irritates me is that I have had pieces for many years, as well as given some to my daughters. This jewelry is the perfect "middle of the market" line - it's high end, better quality, nicer weight, but not with a Cartier price tag.

Lastly, just a heads up to Inna - the previous commenter - I'm sorry to hear you had a bag experience but you do have a limited lifetime warranty for every piece of Effy you buy. This covers manufacturer errors (like small stones falling out), at no cost to you. It lasts forever. I have used it when I lost a small pave stone in an older piece. I called Effy and they took care of it and I got it back in about two months. Also, depending on where you bought it from, you can bring it in and they will handle it for you. My piece was from Bon Ton, and they handled the whole thing.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great service, great product

By Philip Demers, Cloquet, MN, Verified Reviewer

We recently completed two cruises with Princess Cruiseline. I can say that my wife has purchased jewelry, mostly from Diamonds International. On our first cruise, we met one of the representatives of Effy boutique onboard and again saw him at the Diamond International on shore. He was extremely helpful, however, we did not buy jewelry at that time.

The next cruise, my wife was wearing her Tanzanite and decided her pendant was not large enough. We went to Effy onboard our next ship and purchased a pendant and earrings. The representatives were again very helpful. This was our first jewelry purchase onboard the ship and must say we are completely satisfied.

A couple years ago, we purchased our Tanzanite off the ship at one of their recommended jewelers, along with my brother and his wife. My sister-in-law's ring was resized as we waited, but when she returned home, she noticed the stone was not set right. She contacted Princess and sent it in to be repaired. Within 3 weeks, she had it back and wears it to this day.

It appears from the reviews that ring sizing is an issue onboard at Effy, but with all the jewelry sold, there can be an occasional mix-up. We found that Princess works very hard to stand behind their product and services. We would not hesitate to purchase jewelry onboard at Effy.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
