About Endurance Auto Warranty

Endurance Auto Warranty is an insurance-backed company whose vehicle service contracts promise to help you protect the investment you made by potentially saving you thousands of dollars on auto repairs.

Endurance tells us their auto warranties are honored at any of the more than 350,000 licensed, ASE certified repair facilities in the US (note: no coverage in CA). Also, their direct-to-consumer model claims to cut out the middleman and save you up to 50%, compared to purchasing a vehicle service contract through a dealership.

And after obtaining an honest, upfront, hassle-free, and complimentary quote for your make and model, you can have coverage in a matter of minutes.

If the manufacturer’s warranty is about to expire on your car, you might be panicked wondering what you’ll do if something goes wrong.

After taking a deep breath and relaxing a bit, you want to know: Is there anything necessarily unique about Endurance that makes them more worthy of your money than their vast competition?

That’s precisely what we’ll help you explore here, starting with the coverage provided by their auto warranty plans.

What Are the Main Differences Between Endurance’s Coverage Plans?

Overall, the are four different Endurance Auto Warranty plans, all of which are subject to a mandatory 30 to 60-day waiting period (and 1,000 miles) before coverage takes effect. This will be determined at the time you apply.

On the other hand, Endurance does not require an inspection of your vehicle.

Important note: We’ll quickly outline some of the primary differences between each of these plans here. However, since they all involve detailed contracts and lots of legalese, we strongly recommend contacting Endurance directly if you have a specific coverage question.

Endurance Premier

If you need to cover a high-mileage vehicle, Endurance’s Select Premier plan covers air conditioning, cooling system, drive axle assembly, electrical components, engine, fuel system, seals and gaskets, transfer unit, transmission, 24/7 roadside assistance (one service per 72 hours; serviced through Nation Motor Club), and rental car benefits ($30 per day, $150 total per claim).

Note: According to the Endurance representative we spoke with, there isn’t a minimum mileage requirement for the Premier Plan. In other words, it will be determined if your vehicle meets the definition of “high mileage” at the time of application.

If your vehicle is deemed a total loss, Endurance won’t pay more than $12,500, or the actual cash value under the Premier plan, as “determined by the NADA average trade-in value at the time of repair.”

Another big difference is that, according to Premier’s contract:

“You are required to follow the maintenance schedule that applies to your driving habits and climate conditions. Failure to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations that apply to your driving habits and climate conditions may result in the denial of coverage.”

While this is common for most auto warranty companies, we called Endurance for some clarification and learned that it’s possible for them to deny a claim based on missed/improper service that occurred before you took out the policy.

This could be for something as minor as missing an oil change (or changing the oil yourself), or as major as failing to change transmission fluid at 45,000 miles (for example).

In short, whether you choose Endurance or another auto warranty company, it’s immensely important that you’ve followed—and continue to follow—the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance for your vehicle, and that you have the services performed by professionals.

Endurance Secure

We’re told Secure is the company’s most affordable coverage option, intended to cover vital—and often expensive—components like the drive axle assembly, engine, seals and gaskets, transfer unit, transmission, turbocharger/supercharger, 24/7 roadside assistance, and rental car benefits.

This option also provides the option for a disappearing deductible, as long as you agree to have the vehicle repaired at Firestone or AAMCO.

Compared to the Premier plan, Secure’s limit of liability is, “the lesser of, the average trade-in value of the Vehicle as provided by the NADA Guides or the purchase price of the Vehicle as provided by a Bill of Sale.”

Endurance Superior

Endurance’s Superior plan is their highest level of stated component coverage (specifically outlines which parts are covered, and for which perils), and includes everything in the Secure plan.

Superior also adds air conditioning, brakes, cooling system, electrical components, front and rear suspension, fuel system, and steering coverage.

Endurance Supreme

Supreme is Endurance’s only all risk auto warranty, which means that, instead of specifically naming all the coverages available (like in the other plans), it provides coverage unless something is specifically excluded.

As a result, Endurance tells us this is their most comprehensive “bumper-to-bumper” coverage.

How Much Does an Endurance Auto Warranty Cost?

The friendly, helpful Endurance representative with spoke with let us know that the main factors impacting price are your vehicle's year, make, model, and mileage, as well as the plan you choose. As a result, the premium will differ a great deal between consumers.

With this said, we found a blog post on the Endurance website from July 2, 2014 indicating that the average cost is $350 to $700 per year.

Also, while Endurance’s auto warranties are transferrable to other individuals and vehicles, you may be subject to a $50 transfer fee (the rep let us know this is generally waived when transferring between vehicles).

All Endurance Auto Warranties come with a 30-day money back guarantee. In order to request one, obtain a quote, or ask general coverage questions, customer support can be reached at 866-432-4443.

What Are Endurance Auto Warranty Customers Saying In Their Reviews?

On ConsumerAffairs.com, Endurance Auto Warranty had an average rating of slightly less than five stars at the time of our research, based on 650 reviews.

There, most compliments referenced knowledgeable, helpful customer service representatives, while the most frequent complaints related to claims issues (delays, declined coverage).

Note: When researching Endurance customer reviews, we found that the bulk of positive feedback only related to basic customer service issues, such as answering questions, changing address, and correcting billing issues—but not necessarily related to the policy paying out when needed.

On the other hand, nearly every customer complaint seemed related to problems with the claims process. This was regardless of the site we visited, including popular options like Yelp and TrustPilot.

Granted, we’re certainly not saying this is what you can expect with your Endurance Auto Warranty. Instead, we’re just reporting the trend.

From a company perspective, Endurance Warranty Services, LLC, is based out of Northbrook, IL and has been in business since 2006.

They had an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, based on 657 customer reviews and 234 closed complaints, as of 2/21/17. There, as elsewhere, most compliments referenced helpful customer service, while most complaints related to poor support and denied claims.

Pro tip: As we discussed earlier, one BBB reviewer noted that you can’t perform your own maintenance, so be sure to factor in this added expense if you currently handle most of your basic upkeep.

Who Backs & Supports Endurance Auto Warranties?

Although Endurance administers (i.e. services) most of their auto warranty plans, they’re backed by Wesco Insurance (part of AmTrust Financial Services, Inc.) based out of New York, NY. The company has been in business for decades and was rated A (Excellent) by A.M. Best at the time of our research.

Endurance’s roadside assistance services are provided by Nation Motor Club, LLC, who also held an A+ BBB rating as of 2/21/17. Despite this, their 22 closed complaints frequently referenced long response times and claims issues.

Are Vehicle Service Contracts a Good Idea? What the Pros Have to Say

While the pitch is convincing, most authoritative websites we encountered during our research claimed that extended warranties and vehicle service contracts might not save you as much money as you might think—or any at all.

According to Consumer Reports, their internal survey conducted in 2013 found that “55 percent of owners who purchased an extended warranty hadn’t used it for repairs during the lifetime of the policy. And, on average, those who did use it spent hundreds more for the coverage than they saved in repair costs.”

Specifically, they noted that the net loss per contract was $375, leading to lower overall satisfaction ratings than all other products and services surveyed by the company.

In another article, Consumer Reports notes that vehicle service contract companies often have reputations for denying claims because customers can't prove the vehicle was maintained according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Which brings us back around to the point we mentioned at the beginning.

If you’re still convinced you need one, they recommend closely scouring the fine print for limitations.

Specifically, the Federal Trade Commission recommends keeping in mind that you should ensure they:

  • Don’t duplicate any warranty coverage, if one remains on your vehicle (common for power train)
  • Are transferable to a new owner if you sell the vehicle, as well as any associated fees
  • Are underwritten by an insurance company with a solid financial rating, which references their ability to pay claims

Endurance vs. Other Auto Warranty Companies: Which Is Right For You?

With the exception of the first bullet point above, which will vary by customer, you can see that Endurance Auto Warranty seems to meet all the basic criteria for a solid auto warranty or extended vehicle contract company.

On top of this, Endurance seems to have a mostly positive online customer reputation when it comes to basic services, although—similar to most other auto warranty companies like CarTection, Toco Auto Warranty, and Warranty Direct—their most common complaint was an inclination to deny claims.

Keep in mind that you’ll also find that most other popular vehicle contract companies offer varying coverage plans and some type of refund, so Endurance doesn’t seem to be meaningfully different in these respects, either.

Finally, it’s important to point out, that, per Endurance’s privacy policy, they can “send you information from our marketing partners and other third parties through online marketing communications, such as emails. We are not responsible for the practices of our marketing partners, advertisers, or other third parties.”

While we’re certainly not claiming anything about Endurance, and we didn’t read any related reports from customers, handing over your information to unregulated third parties is a prime method of obtaining unwanted sales calls and spam.

I don't know a lot about engines, but I know enough that I understand the value of a warranty. When my first warranty expired, I didn't even know extended warranty was an option until my dealership mentioned it. But my dad told me the dealer warranties are crap, and they overcharge. So we started looking for other warranties, and there were a lot of them. I called Endurance because of great reviews, and I got a lot of information from a very nice woman. I hope that I don't have any engine trouble, but if I do, I'm glad I have coverage to fall back on.

    Good customer support

I have a contract with Endurance and my car had an issue last week, so I took it to a dealer and they said that something in the engine has to be fixed. I called Endurance and they recommended taking it to a local mechanic because they said that the repair should be covered by my plan. Yesterday I got a call back from them and they said that after inspection they confirm that it will be covered. It’s such a relief! Thank you!

No. I would not recommend this company to anyone. When I got this warranty for my vehicle, they promised that it would be fixed if I would have any problems that were covered by the contract. Well, my vehicle transmission went out and they denied to pay for it, including a rental car. Everything! I was stuck with the bill.

Very, very disappointed with them all. I spoke to a different person every time when I called them for 2 1/2 weeks, just for them to tell me that they would not pay for anything. They made it look like I abused my vehicle! How can you abuse something you don't have in control until something goes wrong with your vehicle

      Very, very, very disappointed!

    Change payment and update mileage

I like the fact that the automated system tells you where you at in line and how many minutes before speaking with a rep.

I spoke to very polite and wise representative Art. He was very helpful and went out his way to find out if I had to redo my contract or not so I would not have problems with claims in the future. He assisted me with payment change and advised me to send the Bill of Sale due to the fact I purchase the car after the purchase of a warranty. He assured me everything will be fine and he gave me tips about referring to the car manual concerning when to change oil, etc. I haven't even look at the handbook, and I'm glad he pointed it out because as women we sometimes depend on auto dealers to tell us, and I need to read for myself.

I am so glad I spoke to him. He was professional, polite, helpful, caring and very wise. I appreciate Art for the great customer service provided to me. Thank you!

The credit union was going to offer a warranty which was only for three years and covers motor, transmission, and parts of the coolant, plus I had to pay 50% of the parts and a cost of almost $2000. Endurance offered me four years and to cover my electrical, motor, transmission and more for over $2000.00.

Samantha Anderson helped with the policy, and she was very helpful and professional. Yes, I have to pay a $100 deductible, but it beats paying half parts. I also can get a rental while the car is being fixed. I have a Volvo S60, and parts can be expensive, but the plan was so great. Endurance is the only reason why I made my final car sale. Kudos to Samantha for making me realize that.

Endurance has a great policy and wonderful customer service. Thanks Art Royzengurt!

Sheila was extremely helpful in transferring my service contract from my current car I am selling to the new/used car I recently purchased.

She offered me alternatives that proved to be most advantageous for me and the car coverage I needed for my new (used) car. Excellent service.

    Customer service appreciation.

    Hi Endurance Team,

It’s with much pleasure to let you know that I have had the most wonderful customer care service from one of your staff members called Sheila. She is worth what she does, and she serves a great deal of success for the entire Endurance company. I owe her my best thanks and my wish for your company to have more people like her as it continues to progress. I hope to keep a good connection with you as we move forward. Thank you all.

    Best regards.

    Customer service/acquiring extended warranty package

I was referred to check out Endurance's extended warranty, and I can understand why my colleague recommended them. Michael was the individual I worked with to secure the warranty, and he was a great help. Kimberly was phenomenal with assisting a late payment for me, and Daniel in customer service was beneficial in helping me better understand my coverage and help with some needs I had. All of them were very professional and down to earth and I am a proud customer!

When I bought a used car

    • Honolulu, HI,

When I bought a used car for my daughter, I had already researched Endurance, so I knew they would likely cover a vehicle under 10 years and with 160,000 miles. I was able to find one with a clean record in good shape, no pre-existing conditions. The car is pretty good so far, but we did have an issue with the suspension, which was covered under our policy. Endurance took care of it, no problem. Good company, would recommend to others.

    Awesome service

Art, Melissa, and Valerie all handled my issue with the highest importance and concern. I did not have much hope at first given experiences with other businesses, but they went over the top to settle my issue. I will buy and carry Endurance Warranties on my vehicles when the factory warranty lapses. I will spread by word of mouth the integrity and class in which the issue was confronted and resolved within a timely manner. This may sound like too good of a glowing review, but I'm real and how they took care of my issue was genuinely the best outcome I could have asked for.

I was trying to install my son’s car seat and noticed a problem with the tracking for the front seat (it looked off-track.) I didn’t know whether or not this was a recall issue or something my warranty could cover. I got on the phone with a representative who was very helpful and walked me through it. Even if your problem has to do with a factory flaw you don’t have to deal with it alone. I got all the information I needed and got my repair done easily. Having access to a rental car was also great since I need to drive my kids everywhere.
