FarmersOnly.com Review: Is It Right for You? An In-Depth Look

By Lydia Noyes

Updated on: Jun 25, 2020

FarmersOnly is an online dating site for those who love the country. The website targets those who farm or enjoy the farming lifestyle by giving them a platform to connect over that shared interest.

Founded in 2005, FarmersOnly.com® claims to solve the problem of trying to date when you live in a small town and know all your neighbors a little too well.

In this review, we’ll analyze what this platform offers to help you determine if it is the right option for you.

How Does FarmersOnly Work?

When you make an account on FarmersOnly, you start filling out your profile with a brief bio and then answer questions about your lifestyle, including your ethnicity, religious beliefs, drinking or smoking habits, educational level, whether you have children, and more.

You’ll then share information about what you’re looking for in a match, such as height, weight, and age preferences, as well as what kind of relationship you are looking for (casual, friendship, or long term).

FarmersOnly won’t display your real name. Instead, your username will be something like “Cowboy” or “Farmgirl,” followed by a string of numbers. People with premium accounts can modify their nickname, but they still can’t share a real name.

It’s possible to search members on the site based on a preferred age range, their distance from you, or whether they have profile pictures.

Flirting and favoriting accounts are free, but you’ll need to pay for a subscription to read the flirts sent to you.

Flirt options include several dozen pre-written phrases, including “My computer dared me to send you a flirt,” “Wishing you a HAPPY Harvest,” “Will you be my Spring Fling?” and more.

You can use the discover feature to browse suggested accounts by picture only and indicate whether you are interested or not by selecting a ‘thumbs up’ or a ‘thumbs down’. Only members who you thumbed up will get a message about your interest.

The number of active online users on FarmersOnly ranged from 15,00–17,000 while I used the site. Users are located across the United States, and about 10% of the membership base is located in Canada.

Today, FarmersOnly’s total membership is around 4.5 million users, and the company claims that they produce more than 100 marriages each year.

Premium Membership Pricing and Features

If you want to send and receive personal messages from other FarmersOnly members, then you will need to commit to a premium membership.

The cost per month depends on how many months you commit to:

  • 1-month membership: $21.95
  • 3-month membership: $13.32/month ($39.96 total)
  • 6-month membership: $10.99/month ($65.94 total)

Signing up for premium membership enrolls you in a recurring subscription until you cancel your account. You can cancel future subscription renewals at any time through the “Manage Your Subscription” option in account settings.

For an additional $9.99 per month, you can upgrade your account to “Gold Status,” meaning that your messages will be highlighted in gold in other member’s inboxes, and even free members will be able to read and respond to them.

Another premium feature is FarmPhone, which lets you send and receive FarmersOnly messages as text messages on your phone while keeping your number private from other members. Other members don’t need to have this feature for it to work for you. This costs an additional $4.95 per month.

Analysis of Customer Reviews

Popular Alternatives to FarmersOnly

There aren’t many dating websites tailored specifically towards rural people, but many people are still likely to have luck on more mainstream dating platforms like Zoosk, Elite Singles, and Match.com.

  • Android: 3 (85,000 reviews)
  • iOS: 3.8 (7,000 reviews)
Number of Members 4.5 million 40 million active users About 2 million 9 million active users

Zoosk dwarfs the other dating profiles by membership size. There are close to ten times as many active users on the platform as FarmersOnly, which means that you’re likely to find a few people nearby that spark your interest.

Zoosk also utilizes a coin system, which means that the site offers lots of additional items for you to purchase to get attention from other users. This can bring your monthly costs up significantly compared to the base monthly price.

Like FarmersOnly, Elite Singles is a niche site that’s targeted towards older, educated adults who are searching for serious relationships. In both cases, these sites don’t regulate who signs up. You could be a high school dropout on Elite Singles or a nature-adverse city dweller on FarmersOnly.

However, in my experience, most FarmersOnly members seem to indicate some interest in farming, animals, or the outdoors in their profiles.

Lastly, FarmersOnly doesn’t include any sort of matching algorithm to help you connect with others. You won’t be asked any questions about your personality or relationship style, and matches are sorted by distance as a default.

The Bottom Line

FarmersOnly is designed to help the busy, outdoorsy types find their forever matches. While the site isn’t exclusively composed of farmers, most users indicate that they have at least a general love for the lifestyle.

Compared to other dating sites, FarmersOnly has an outdated feel. Some might find that to be refreshing, as it simplifies the matchmaking process by getting rid of matching algorithms and pay-per-interaction pricing systems.

Customer reviews indicate that a lot of FarmersOnly members successfully used the site to find a long-term partner. The dating pool is smaller, but there’s a good chance that a lot of potential matches will share your interests, which might save you a lot of time sorting through members on other sites.

If you’re interested in FarmersOnly but concerned you won’t find the right people, we suggest making a free account and sending some flirt messages to people you are interested in.

You’ll get an email if they flirt with you back, so, even though you won’t be able to see the flirt, you’ll get the sense of whether they might be interested. You can then use this response rate to determine whether committing to a premium membership might be worthwhile.

What a joke

By Tenley , Denver, CO

If no stars was an option, I would have chosen that.

My experience was horrible. It's a stalking website. Most profiles have either no pictures or contain pictures of farm animals/machinery and crop land. The only way to block someone is to be a paid member. The only way to see who visited your profile is to click into their profile and it becomes a vicious cycle of clicking into each others profile just to see who was a visitor.

FarmersOnly is way behind on technology of internet dating and they need to make some serious improvements.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Farmersonly is a joke.

By Gary ,

I find it very odd, for all the money they spend on advertising, when someone tries to visit their site, they expect a person to fill out a bunch of stuff just to look and see if they have members in my area and age range. Then I get rejected and they are telling me a perfectly good e-mail address, from a reputable ISP provider, that I have been using daily for 25 years is an invalid e-mail address? Hello, I clicked on the contact them - support button, and wasted time giving feedback, and then it would not take that either, because it said I did not fill in the blank for "user name"? (Which was not even marked as a "required field" to begin with)? If they do not want new subscribers, then quit advertising, and instead, lower their prices for those people they do seem to want. This is a very poorly ran and shoddy site. From what I read in other posts, I guess I am a lucky one that I did not get in or give them any money to begin with.

Billing scam

By Sandra Jolcover , Arizona

Not made clear that they will bill you forever, without notifying you by email, that your initial billing period has expired. They email whenever the wind blows, to keep you interested, but do not email when they are going to take more money out of you account. When you find out, they will not cancel & refund balance. This is how they make their money. I'm am filing a complaint with the BBB.

Scam For Sure

By Cheryl ,

Several things have raised my eyebrow to question the legitimacy of this site, very subtle things, but still questionable.

First, I find it very strange that the number of members online they show on their site is 3-4 times more than other bigger dating websites, like Match.com. I think they just make up a number, or this could possibly be the count for all their members, not just the ones online.

Several months ago there was a problem with their sorting. When I chose to sort by distance so I could just see the members in my area first, there were members from other states and all over the country showing up first. When I asked support about this, they said "it will work itself out", and eventually in 2-3 weeks it did. But that tells me they have Mickey Mouse programmers who don't know how to administer a database.

I saw one members profile who said he was getting off the site because he was getting email responses from members who said he had contacted them, when in fact he never did. He said there were several of them.

At one time I was a paid member, but am not now. My membership expired a couple weeks ago. Within the last few days my profile shows that there has been 30-40 more profile visitors per day than I have ever had. Now don't tell me that was not instigated FO, or not even real at all. Just a baiting tactic by the website to get me to rejoin.

And last but not least, do not go on an international vacation and expect to have access to the website. They block all foreign ISPs. I guess they assume if your on their website then you don't have the money, class, culture or desire to travel out of the US.

All these things added up together smells scam.

Fake website in my opinion

By Michael Knight , Fresno, CA

Bunch of crooks. Just another useless website with tons of fake profiles. Download PartyLine and talk to real people. They will scam you and take your money, why waste your time, farmers? There is not one single picture of a farmer growing a single plant or veggie, waste of time, and a fake site. I would rather give my money to the homeless.

Rip Off - Beware!

By Jo Ornelas ,

Beware! They scam you out of money by saying you can pay 10.99 a month and then charge you the WHOLE amount for six months at once! Never did it say ANYWHERE that they were going to charge the whole amount. Tried to dispute it & only received less than half of what they charged me. Shame on them! Also a lot of profiles with no pictures... Waste of time!

They don't fix their problems

By Anonymous Women , The Midwest

If you have tech issues they do nothing, although you are a paying member. They say they have over two million members but there are usually only 5k to at most 27,000 on at a time and most are standard members you cant talk to or fake or dead profiles. Never been on such a dead site ever. I did go on several dates and met some nice people but overall it is the biggest dud and waste of money I've seen. Sticking with local offline dating. I Come out way ahead. Everyone complains how no one talks on there.

It has to be a set up to get you to join with fakes. Just too weird. The one positive is the men aren't as big of losers and pigs like most sites. If they talk the majority of the me are very respectful which is refreshing.

Be very careful!

By Gaylord ,

I can't say it's a fake or partially fake site but the communications I receive aren't very believable. People supposedly interested in me don't respond.

But by far the worst part of membership is the automatic renewal. They will nail you to the cross on this "fine print" little detail so proceed at your own risk!

Don't waste your money!

By Anonymous ,

This site does not offer much for what you pay for. The profiles that circulate are the same old "farmers". There are slim pickings if you are a young, hardworking woman. The men on here are the most morally uptight bunch I've ever come in contact with. It's ok for them to want in your pants but if YOU initiate it you destroy their manhood and they are at a loss. A lot of the men on here state they are "Athletic" and are looking for the same, but are obviously fat lards. I've had "likes" from people who haven't been active in months. I wish there was at least an option to keep people from contacting you that are not in your age range. 40 bucks down the drain.

Poor customer service and lots of scammers

By Vee , Center co, PA

I finally gave up after I was unable to login in to my account and contacting service 3 times. The customer service is absolutely horrendous. I owned a paid membership for about a year - the site is plagued by Nigerian scammers and yet FO does little to keep them away until they are reported.

One good thing about Farmer's Only - I learned a whole new set of internet skills in being to identify scammers due to the POOR policing of their site.

It's the worst site I have been on ever

By Anonymous , Central Midwest

Horrible, rude customer service. Won't fix problems or allow you to switch pictures out unless they like them, although you pay for the privilege. Not dirty ones either, just regular pictures. Ridiculous! They over -edit your profile if they don't like what you write, also not dirty. I'm not trying to date the owners, so what's the problem? They allow no freedom to be creative or interesting.

The men refuse to talk most of the time and are either boring as mud or filthy pigs that want phone sex. I agree with what others said here. It's their way or the highway. I don't think these men get out much or know how to talk to women at all.

Plan on making all of the effort here. The site is a complete bomb. Few very basic features. They upgraded and you can barely see the visitor pictures, so they added no features and made what worked worse.

I agree with all of the negative reviews. What a waste of time and money. Find someone in your town in person.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
